but heracles wasnt a god
he had god ' like strength but he still died

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

No, he was a hero, he went through all of his trials, and he was rewarded by turning into a god. The only hero to do such a thing.

but according to Mythology by Edith Hamilton
he technically kills himself once he relies that nothing can kill him, no matter how hard Hera tried to kill him he still lived.
so he ordered his servants to build a grand pyre and before he was burned he gave his weapons to his trustee, than he burned thus dying

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

No, he allowed a centaur to ferry his wife across a river. The centaur tricked the wife and Heracles shot him with an arrow, and before he died, he gave the wife a potion. He said that it would keep her love alive and faithful. But it was actually hydra poison, and she put it on a tunic and he died upon donning the tunic. After that, for his 12 labors and more, he became a god.

message 8: by Desi (new)

Desi | 191 comments Mod
no it was the centaurs own blood
he didnt die, he felt pain, thus leading to the burning pyre

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

nonononononononononono.... There wasn't a burning pyre. It was Hydra poison and he died and then was made a god.

message 10: by Desi (new)

Desi | 191 comments Mod
when he died he ascended to be WITH the gods not to BE a god

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

No, he was the only hero to become a full-fledged god upon death.

hercules died because he was given a coat that something was wrong with it, he got sooooo weak that his pride took over and he asked someone to kill him and since he was weak they could. he asended WITH the gods to olympious but he was not a god EVER

message 20: by Desi (new)

Desi | 191 comments Mod
some CONSIDERED him a god only because of his strength
but the fact that he DIED makes him MORTAL
Mortals can't be gods

Xerxes Break(Vivian Ephona) (ephona) Desi wrote: "but heracles wasnt a god

But Heracleas became a god...right?

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm pretty sure he did, yeah.

message 37: by Victoria (new)

Victoria (vikkitori22) | 338 comments Mod
NO he didn't! he considered himself at the status of a god but he never became a god!!!! he was killed

message 38: by Amy (new)

Amy (Runawaymarbles) Heracleas is NOT a god. He was a mortal, who died. He became an immortal, but not a god. His wife thought he was cheating on her (Hera's trick) and poisoned his robe. Or something like that. So it burned him up... I think it was Centaur blood.

And Iris rules.

Xerxes Break(Vivian Ephona) (ephona) Well as said above, probably different versions. I've read a few where he actually, after the 12 leagues, was made immortal and married a goddess...the cup bearer or something like that.

message 40: by Amy (new)

Amy (Runawaymarbles) I thought he hauled dead bodies.

message 41: by Victoria (new)

Victoria (vikkitori22) | 338 comments Mod
he had 12 labors that the gods put him through but i don't think i remember the married a goddess

i know the one by edith hamilton where hercules married meg or something and had children but in a rage killed them all... depressing but thats what happen according to hamilton. also in the book hercules died by puting on a coat and it made him week but because of his pride he had someone kill himself and then he died...

message 42: by Amy (new)

Amy (Runawaymarbles) That happened. That's why he had to do the twelve labors. Hera made him crazy.

message 43: by Victoria (new)

Victoria (vikkitori22) | 338 comments Mod
yes but ephona said something about the cup bearer and that hercules married a goddess

message 44: by Desi (new)

Desi | 191 comments Mod
no he is not a god

message 45: by Desi (new)

Desi | 191 comments Mod
and yes, from what i read he was poisoned with centaurs blood

message 46: by jake4evs (new)

jake4evs (smyle94) | 258 comments Mod
he wasnt a god!!!! only immortal!!!! he lived in olympus besides the gods not as one!!!

message 47: by Victoria (new)

Victoria (vikkitori22) | 338 comments Mod
yup

message 48: by Lizzy (new)

Lizzy (spiderliz) | 10 comments cool

Xerxes Break(Vivian Ephona) (ephona) Maybe the romans messed it up and the greeks had fifty different versions. Either way, Heracles was a great hero.

message 50: by Desi (new)

Desi | 191 comments Mod
yes a hero
not a god
