I just finished watching the Equinox Flower. It is beautifully done. It is close to two hours long, his first done in color. It is a story of traditions vs. change. Two young women that still live with their family. The parents are extremely traditional, the mother is in a very subservient role. Setsuko (the oldest daughter)is secretly seeing a suitor. He shows up at the father's work to ask for her hand in marriage. The father is furious and forbids it. It progresses from there, showing how the "new ways" prevail and how difficult it is for the father to change. The mother, like mother's in all generations, wants her daughter to be happy.
