Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) Has anyone seen the pilot for this new show starring Toni Collette and Produce by Diablo Cody(Juno). It came on last sunday on show @ 10pm. This show is so freaking funny. Toni plays Tara a wife and mother of two , who has split personalities. One being a hillbilly guy named Buck who ends up beating the crap out of her teenage daughters boyfriend. This show is hilarious . definitely worth giving it a view if you haven't already.

Leshawn | 26 comments I saw it Jael and I agree completely! I laughed and loved it. I am planning to watch the next episode OnDemand tonight after work!
I really enjoyed when Buck arrived!

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) lol yes Buck was hilarious. I didn't know another episode is on demand I have to watch it now

message 4: by Leshawn (new)

Leshawn | 26 comments I noticed that I could watch 2 when I sat down to watch it on Tuesday but I ran out of time. Then I decided that the whole point of OnDemand was to watch something when you wanted and not when a schedule required it.
I'll check in tomorrow to see what you thought, Jael!

message 5: by Leshawn (new)

Leshawn | 26 comments Good Morning Jael,
Did you have a chance to watch the second episode of "The United States of Tara"?
I really like the opening credits, very creative.
The second episode made me sad because Tara had to deal with all the problems created in the hilarity of the first episode.
The image of Marshall spreading that towel on his bed broke my heart a little.
I loved how Alice handled the teacher conference!
What did you think?

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) Lol I just realized my cable doesn't have on demand which sucks but I did watch this Sunday. I loved this episode b/c it showed the down side that the family has to deal with . Poor Marshall all the stress is making him have bed wetting problems. I love Alice especially when she was washing the daughter's mouth out with Soap. It definitely was a sad episode. I think this is one of the best series out there and I agree the opening credits are great

Terri (terrilovescrows) | 162 comments THought the first one was really funny

message 8: by Leshawn (new)

Leshawn | 26 comments Jael,
Does that mean that you can't see the third episode until Sunday? I watched it today before work and I'd love to discuss it after you see it!
Le Shawn
P.S. I thought she was asking for that soap in the mouth as well! Especially since Tara tried to talk to her in a sympathetic fashion earlier in the episode and she rebuffed her.

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) Yes I cannot watch until Sunday :( I miss my on Demand. I switched cable providers when I moved. Without giving anything away how was the show. I hate that I have to wait until Sunday.

message 10: by Leshawn (new)

Leshawn | 26 comments Hey Jael,
The third episode was more of the sadness involved with the clean-up after the Alters work in episode one. We do get to meet Tara's therapist and they did some development on the story lines of the two kids.
Sunday will be here before you know it....hold on!
Le Shawn

Terri (terrilovescrows) | 162 comments Alice was really funny but I know she would drive me nuts.

message 12: by Leshawn (new)

Leshawn | 26 comments It seemed like Alice drove the whole family nuts, Terri.
At first I thought their response to Alice's behavior was a little excessive.
Upon further consideration, I decided that it was probably difficult to live with her obsession with the surface of things.

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) After a ehile Alice would drive anyone nuts. I've been watching the repeat just to see the clips for next week show. I know that whipped cream scene is going to be hilarious. Leshawn/Terri what are your thoughts on Tara's sister. For some reason I think she acts a little bitchy

message 14: by Terri (new)

Terri (terrilovescrows) | 162 comments I think she doesnt want to deal with her sister's illness at all. Doesnt believe in MPD and thinks her sister is doing it for attention or to be annoying or something. She sure doesnt seem to be supportive or caring at all. I hope she is not really that cold.

message 15: by Leshawn (new)

Leshawn | 26 comments I think she is starved for attention and there is just not much left over in the situation. I think she would have to be very mature and understanding to accept Tara's illness and that she just can't do it. I think Tara's husband is amazing for how well he handles the situation.
Does she have a husband or children?

message 16: by Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (last edited Feb 02, 2009 06:09AM) (new)

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) I don't remember them saying but the way she was hitting on Tara's husband in the first epi, makes me think no.. I'm glad I wasn't the only one irked by her. Yes today is Sunday can't wait to watch.

message 17: by Leshawn (new)

Leshawn | 26 comments Jael,
So what did you think of the third episode?
Le Shawn

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) I enjoyed it although that rule where the husband can't sex the alters is frustrating to me because on the one hand I completely agree with Tara but I feel bad for the husband. I mean it's gotta be hard for him not to have sex with the alter especially since it's his wife's body. The sister needs a good slap. I'd loved to see her and T go at it. I thought it was funny when Buck said his penis was blown of in Nam. I was laughing so hard

message 19: by Leshawn (new)

Leshawn | 26 comments I thought the third episode was even more sad than the second. I felt all of the characters's frustration so clearly and the lack of sex for Max is one of the most frustrating. It's sad to see that he is handling so much of the stress and tension of the family and being denied one of the few methods available for reducing it.
Charmaine seems to have grown up in a different family from Tara. Her perspective is skewed.
Glad you finally got the opportunity to watch it!

message 20: by Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (last edited Feb 03, 2009 09:43AM) (new)

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) Yeah waiting until Sunday is killing me. I actually like that the show is dealing with the MPD in a not so comical why like the first show did. I like the struggles they are having within the family and how they are able to try to cope with Tara and her disorder. This is a gem among the new shows that have premiered this season

message 21: by Terri (new)

Terri (terrilovescrows) | 162 comments Charmaine is in serious denial, but a LOT of people still don't think it is a real disease.

I felt really bad for Max when he came home for his date to find Buck. BUT I thought the male bonding - let;s watch porn was hysterical.

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) LOL I loved that scene with Buck. it was really good especially I caught crabs part lol.

message 23: by Terri (new)

Terri (terrilovescrows) | 162 comments They must have so much fun on the set! But I have to say, I am just waiting for Max to break down and lose it at some point!

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) Yeah I can see it coming as well. He has been putting up with a lot and it seems like every time he tries to get close t Tara one of the personalities come out.

message 25: by Leshawn (new)

Leshawn | 26 comments So what did you think of the fourth episode, Jael and Terri?

message 26: by Terri (new)

Terri (terrilovescrows) | 162 comments The sister was mroe human in this one. I felt sorry for Tara when the alter vandalized the mural. But on the other hand, the woman was shallow to react the way she did.

I also thought it was sad that Tara could not remember so much of her time with Max.

message 27: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (momwithbooks) I thought it was ironic that the mural lady wanted to see an alter, yet when an alter made an invisible appearance she couldn't stand it...sorry to jump in the middle of the convo - I'm new here :)

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) IA Kourtney but I'm not convinced it was an alter who ruined the mural. I think it was the sister. I think she was jealous of Tara and the mural ladies developing friendship.

message 29: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (momwithbooks) That thought had crossed my mind as well, until I saw the end scene where she was upset over not being able to keep friends...I go back and forth over which was which - sister vs alter. I'm stuck in the alter camp at the moment...I wonder if it will be addressed in the next episode!

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) Yeah the end scene didn't sway me at all I think she waanted to get out of the Vita-life job and found the perfect opportunity. Clearly she was lying at dinner about how her sales were going I think she did it. LOL I really hate the sister.

message 31: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (momwithbooks) Ooohhhh good point..now I really do hope they mention it!

message 32: by Leshawn (new)

Leshawn | 26 comments Jael,
I thought it was the sister as well! I've seen the fifth episode and I'm still not sure if it was an alter or Charmaine. I agree with all your reasons for believing it is Charmaine.
I felt so bad for Tara when she lost her friendship with Tiffany. I was also frustrated that Tiffany wanted to see an alter but didn't want to handle the repercussions of an alter's appearance.
I liked it when Jason accepted Marshall's appearance after the bee stings.
I liked when Tara coined the phrase "Gentleman's Time".

message 33: by Terri (new)

Terri (terrilovescrows) | 162 comments Jason seems nice but he also seems to be a homophobe which is sad

message 34: by Leshawn (new)

Leshawn | 26 comments It's hard to develop beliefs of your own while under the influence of your parents. His father is a minister. Jason seems like he will find his way to his own beliefs. Maybe not until he leaves his father's house.

message 35: by Terri (new)

Terri (terrilovescrows) | 162 comments I certainly hope so

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) I think marshy is going 2 get hurt by jason and this episodehas done nothing 2 convince me that it wasn't the sister by the way how douchie is Kates boss he really irks me

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) I think marshy is going 2 get hurt by jason and this episodehas done nothing 2 convince me that it wasn't the sister by the way how douchie is Kates boss he really irks me

message 38: by Terri (new)

Terri (terrilovescrows) | 162 comments Well I DO believe it wasnt T.

message 39: by Leshawn (new)

Leshawn | 26 comments I think the story line with Kate's Boss (played by Nathan Corddry from "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip") is the weakest and the strangest on the show. I wish they would find a better story line for Kate and drop the current one.
I agree with you, Jael, that Marshall is heading for a broken heart and that Gene is an annoying character.

message 40: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (momwithbooks) I finally watched the episode last night and Kate's boss still gives me the creeps. I keep expecting him to kidnap someone or start a cult. I believe T when she says she didn't do it. If it WAS any of the alters my gut reaction was Alice for some reason. But I'm now on the side of Charmaine being the culprit. I can't stand her.

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) lol ok I guess this episode let's charmaine off since they showed the new alter lol that was too funny and LeShawn I agree Kates boss is strange they need to ax that story

message 42: by Leshawn (new)

Leshawn | 26 comments Hey Guys,
I just watched "Rachel Getting Married" and guess who played Rachel? Rosemarie DeWitt who plays Charmaine.
She was very good!

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) Ok what T did to Marshy was so f'ed up and Marshy setting the shed on fire. This show is really keeping my interest I like how they're shying away from the funny side and are turning to a more serious fall out with the family and Tara's condition.

message 44: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (momwithbooks) I agree Jael! And the scenes for next week have me intrigued...looks like her husband hits a breaking point. Great show and a great way of showing how DID affects families.

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael)
I know poor Max he puts up with a lot I was wondering when he would break

message 46: by Terri (new)

Terri (terrilovescrows) | 162 comments Poor Marsh! And what T did was just plain wrong. Of course, making out with your friend/bpufriend's mother is beyond twisted Jason.

And Kate's boss is a definite weirdo.

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael)
I agree Kate boss needs to be locked away. He is so pervy

message 48: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (momwithbooks) WOW...did everyone see last Sunday's episode? I can't wait for next week but I'm sad that it is the season finale! I just didn't understand when they were talking about how Tara's friend was "integrated" - I don't think I was paying close enough attention. What was that?

message 49: by Terri (new)

Terri (terrilovescrows) | 162 comments Integrated is when the personalities are merged back into the main personality so they are one "whole" personality again. When I met Chris Sizemore (The woman whose case was what Three Faces of Eve was based on) she pointed out that they (doctors) thought they had integrated her at the end of their treatment, but in actuality she continued to split and form more alters over the years many times until they were finally sucessful.

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) Watched the series finale. Good stuff can't believe it's not back until Summer 2010!
