I'm Joanne. I'm a 26 year old pre-kindergarten teacher who loves to read. I read mostly YA books. I like reading paranormal books with emphasis on vampires (a monster I loved since I was a kid before the twilight vampire craze). I also like to read historical fiction books as well as children's books. My favorite book is Nevermore by Kelly Creagh. My favorite series is of course the Nevermore series by Kelly Creagh. My second favorite series and books are the Tiger Saga books by Colleen Houck
Joanne, I just realized that we haven't done much YA here in a couple of months. If you have a book you'd like to read, maybe we could do a buddy read for it. It's important that the group read a variety of books.
Welcome to all of the new members! I make threads for the Buddy Read section, so if there are any books you are just itching to read with someone...just post it in the Buddy Reads section. We'll try to get you set up! :)
Hi, I'm April. I have never joined a group like this before but I'm very excited to see what it has in store for me. I'm a wife and mother of two boys. I love to read just about anything besides heavy romance novels. Right now I am trying to obtain my degree in psychology and pursue my career as a child life specialist. I'm glad to be here and look forward to talking with all of you!
Welcome, April!! I loved Psychology in school. Abnormal was my favorite. Good luck to you in your endeavours! We look forward to chatting with you about books, books, and more books!

Yes, Joanne! We'll take any buddy read suggestions. Haha, can you tell I am trying to promote the Buddy Read section. It has fallen off here recently!I haven't read any YA recently since I have been stuck in a mystery/historical fiction rut. My next book though after I finish the 3 I am reading will be The Maze Runner. Have you read that one, Joanne? If you did, what did you think of it? :)
Hello everyone!I found this group while searching for a Dewey Decimal reading challenge. I need to read more non-fiction, and I think this would be a good challenge for 2013.
I enjoy reading since I learned how to read. I used to devour books as a child. Not lately, though. These days I read books for school.
I'm looking forward to this challenge.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.
Nancy

Hi! I joined this group a few days ago. I'm interested in some of your challenges for next year, so I've been doing some planning.
Welcome all you new ones! I´ve been on the group for the whole year and enjoyed myself a lot! A lot of creative people coming up with fun challenges :)
Hi
I just joined because I'd like to try some challenges for 2013 .
I'm almost 55, married ,all kids are grown and gone for many years now.
I like almost any type of books ,other than romance .
I've kept a tally of books read for this year .My goal was 50 and I'm at 47,so I might just make my goal for the year .
Will be fun branching out a bit and adding some new challenges for the coming year . :)

Welcome, Seabiscuit! It's great to have you. Sounds like you're well on your way to your 2012 goal--looking forward to seeing what you do for 2013.
Hello everyone! I have lurked here for nearly a year and have decided to come out, join and say hello to everyone.
I keep up with books that I have here on my bookshelf. That has been my main purpose on good reads.
The group I joined a few weeks ago and I have been impressed and have enjoyed reading the challenges and some reviews.
Glad to be here!
Hello, my name is Katrina...I tend to go by Echo on Goodreads. I love to read but didn't hit goal I set for myself this year...but I think having a baby had something to do with that ;)I usually read 150+ books a year so I think I'm going to return to that goal.
Hello. Am Debby. New to the group. I like romantic ñovels, i love sydney sheldon, danielle steel, and currently i have read E.L.James think i have also fallen for her.
Hello I'm Tearsa. I love reading basically anything (although I lean towards fantasy, science fiction, dystopian, "weird fiction," and classics. I'm 23 and reside in central PA. I love reading challenges and look forward to interacting with all of you!
Wow, so many new people! Welcome, all.Maggie: it's great to see a lurker come out of the woodwork.
Echo: Congratulations on your baby! My friend just had one, and she said her overall reading went down but her audiobook listening went way up (she listens when she's nursing or up with the baby in the middle of the night).
Debby: That's great! We don't currently have a lot of romance books on our bookshelf--maybe you can start a buddy read.
Tearsa: Sounds like we like similar books. :) Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
Hello!I'm Amy and I would read a bit of anything! I would say my favourite genre would be cult classics but then again I read such a wide range of books I can't decide on just one.
My three favourite books are 'the picture of Dorian gray', 'a clockwork orange' and 'to kill a mockingbird'.
Hi Amy! Welcome. :) I loved To Kill A Mockingbird also - I've read it quite a few times actually, and studied it in high school (like many other people). All my friends thought I was weird for enjoying it! haha.
Hello, hello all new members! I love how many new members we are getting with favorite different reading genres.I am the leader of the Buddy Read Section. We currently do not have any books for the month of January, so if you have an idea for a Buddy Read...hop over to the Buddy Read thread and let us know what you'd like to read. Someone usually wants to read a book you want to read, and it is fun! :)
Hi--I'm Karen. I'm a stay at home mom this year (after teaching junior high for 15 years). There's not a whole lot that I won't read. This looked like a fun group--and with a seven year old and a five year old, I need some adult conversation!
Welcome to our group, Karen. Feel free to look around and join in our discussions and challenges! We look forward to checking out what books you want read. :)
Hi! My name is Tracy and I'm from Adelaide, Australia. I joined this group a few days ago and I'm looking forward to 2013 to getting started on all the challenges. In the meantime I am enjoying picking out all the books I will read for them :) My favourite genres at the moment are Historical Fiction, Dystopian, YA and Contemporary Fiction. I am currently reading The Kite Runner and City of Bones and I am really enjoying both of them. I dont have a lot of time for reading at the moment so I am trying to listen to audiobooks in the car on my commute to work. I do read every night before bed though even if its just a couple of chapters. Other than reading my other great love is travelling. I am counting down the days until I have 6 weeks off work in March and my friend and I are coming back to the US and Caribbean. I havent been overseas since May and I'm starting to get itchy feet! I also love spending time with my family and friends, going to the movies, out to dinner, to the beach etc. Anyway, thats enough from me but I am looking forward to participating in the Buddy Reads and the Challenges :)
Welcome!Amy: I also loved TKaMB, but I have the other two books on my list still. I'll need to pick them up soon. :)
Karen: Looking forward to having you participate in our discussions here! Will you be picking up our group read for the month, A Christmas Carol?
Tracy: Happy to see you made your way to our group! I've never been to the Caribbean, but I also love traveling, and I think that's going to be my next international stop.
Sarah: LOVE that you jumped right in and set up your challenge thread!
Hi, everyone! I just joined the group in anticipation of the 2013 Challenge. My name is Amanda, I'm from South Dakota. Mom to two kids. Legal secretary. Divorced. Not quite 30, yet ;) I think that covers most of the bases, lol.
2012 was my first year of participating in the challenge. I set my goal at the standard 52 books...which seemed totally do-able at the time. Now, on December 13, I have one book to go. I'll find something, but this wasn't quite as easy as I thought! Also, many of the books I read probably shouldn't "count"...I re-read the Little House series, the first two Fifty Shades books... you get the idea, lol. But, I did read more this year than last year, and even if some of it was crap-reading, it's still better than not reading at all (um...right?).
All this to say, I'm going back and forth about how to structure my 2013 goal. I had originally planned on setting it at 55 books, slightly higher than 2012. But then I realized that at least two of the books I want to read (Anna Karenina and Great Expectations) are going to take a good deal longer than the average book. And I don't want to discourage myself from reading longer books, simply for the sake of meeting an arbitrary goal. I'm now considering setting it at 45 books, with a minimum of 5 "classics."
Welcome Amanda! And btw, "crap-reading" totally counts. haha ;) I count pretty much everything I read towards my challenge. This group is pretty flexible that way, so it's really up to what you think counts. :PIf you want some help getting through the 'classics', you should suggest them for buddy reads in the buddy reads (further down the group page). I know I'd like to be involved in some classic reading. :)
