I guess that I feel this way because he took great pains to effect his revenge even unto his victems family, that had really no part of the original act.
The characters are bold, and pitiful at the same time. We grow to love to hate the victems of Dantes plot, and even I dare say start to see Dantes own inner monster come out making him no better than those who committed the original betrayal.
