I brought the good weather with me.. :0).. Will you be following the Para-Olympics on Channel 4?

Helen | 3446 comments Ian! They are just showing the inside of the stadium and saying that they are practising, seems a bit daft with the audience there. I have so many recorded progs to catch up on. The diving and the 100m relay were great.

Dominic Green (dominicgreen) | 20 comments Genuinely on the subject of the Olympics, I swear:

Inspired by patriotic fervour, I have written a book for discerning adults, Cowboys and Dinosaurs, set in London during the run-up to the 2012 Olympics, and involving them, however tangentially. The blurb follows:

<blurb>

Steve Simpson, late twentysomething londoner, loses his job, fiancée and home in the space of twenty-four hours. He has only forty-eight hours to find a new place to live, and beggars can't be choosers. The house he ends up in is the mystic repository of the Sacred Stone of St. Neot, which, as one of the residents, Gonoroid Quarxxx, comments, 'attracts weirdos'. But can the Stone's properties protect him against the Lizard Lady, the Fissure King, the Masters of Cold Steel, the Vutwamini, and the Crouch
End Albanian Mob?

</blurb>

The book is absolutely free, and can be downloaded in a variety of formats at the following address:

Stuff I have posted to Goodreads so far: Saucerers and Gondoliers, Sister Ships and Alastair, There Ain't Gonna Be No World War Three and Tirnahiolaire. All of these were suitable for children. This is not. Oh boy, is it not.

Must admit I loved the brilliant opening ceremony and the sport and the organisation and the cheering crowds and all the flag waving, but that closing ceremony was more than a bit pants. Very bitty and too many has been rock and pop stars. Bit like getting Daley Thompson to do the decathlon in 2012......yes, he was great back in the day but now he'd just be a bit sad and well off the pace, looking rather fat in his little white singlet and shorts.

message 160: by Susan (new)

Susan Ian....it was great how they got all those older athletes to nominate a young person to carry a torch in the opening ceremony.....it's a pity the senior rock and pop stars hadn't been asked to do the same....

message 161: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3446 comments I liked how well it was organised but the actual stars... Even Matt Bellamy didn't impress me.

message 162: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 82 comments Yeah, the closing ceremony didn't seem to have any real point to it.

It was the sort of thing that Simon Cowell would put together.

In fact, I think it's what most people feared the opening ceremony would be like!

I think it was when the rings joined up during opening ceremony, that I realised that the Olympics were going to be great.

I loved this montage that the BBC did - http://youtu.be/XmRJzMfFBM8

Angela (bookangel2) | 675 comments We're planning a Jubilympic party for the family on Sunday - rather late for both the Jubilee (rained off!) and the Olympics (we were on holiday), but are busy organising some "events" for the grandkids (they range from 10 down to 2).
We're going to have "Toss the Wellie in the Bin"; "The Long Leap"; "Skittles" and, back by popular demand, the world famous "Burst the Balloon Contest"(blindfolded and against the clock!)
All the prizes are Olympic and Jubilee themed and I'm going to make an Olympic cake too with rings on it! Just hope the weather holds out:)))
