I find him to be more intriguing that Gatsby, which is why I feel he is (at least) equally deserving of his own thread.
He seems torn. Every time he is with others (his evening with Daisy and Tom; Tom, Myrtle, and others; Gatsby's parties; even Jordan to some extent) he is so awkward and uncomfortable (that's what I think, at least)... yet he wants to be with them... Is he curious? Is he trying to MAKE himself be comfortable with them because he doesn't wish to feel like he's judging them? I don't know. I think he is every bit as mysterious as Gatsby. Maybe I'm missing something.
I would agree that Nick does seem torn and kind of lost in a way; however, I think that he stays put because the difference in his life now may seem like an escape into a new sort of world. He may want to try and do some things different, especially getting to know Gatsby more. That's what I would say.
