Maureen Brunner (maureenbrunner) | 6 comments I am trying to come up with a list of classics (British & American mostly) with timeless themes that high school students can relate too.

Then I want to create a list of 5 to 10 modern YA novels with a similar theme.

The idea is to compare these themes help teens understand and like the classic "cannon" titles a bit more.

Any ideas?

Nancy | 4 comments I think there are a number of good books with parallels to Romeo and Juliet, though simply showing the movie, along with "West Side Story" would make the connection. One that comes to mind right away is "If You Come Softly" by Jacqueline Woodson.
