Liz (HisSheep) This discussion probably overlaps TV and movies, but since it was on television tonight, I'll post here. Did anyone watch? If yes, what did you think ...

Some of the picks definitely surprised me, but then I've only seen two of the movies up for big prizes (Doubt and Burn After Reading).

message 2: by Holli (new)

Holli I didn't get to watch it....we watched 24 premiere instead. I wanted to though....I love The Golden Globes for the casualness of it.

I saw that Slumdog Millionaire came away with most everything though...

message 3: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (hannah7299) | 111 comments I DVR'd it and watch snippets of it this morning. Now I'm curious to go see Slumdog Millionaire. It beat out a lot of great films so it must be pretty moving! I was happy to see Heath Ledger win too.

message 4: by Ed (new)

Ed | 54 comments I really enjoyed mickey rourke's and springsteen's speeches

message 5: by Trudy (new)

Trudy (tblaine9) | 105 comments My mom and I were talking about this today... I really feel out of touch on movies anymore. The ones that are up for the awards are ones I have either never heard of or don't care to watch. She did mention that Heath Ledger got the Best Supporting Actor award and I was happy with that...

message 6: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (hannah7299) | 111 comments I really want to see The Wrestler after seeing the preview. I just saw Gran Turino & was surprised it didn't get more recognition at the awards. Clint Eastwood's work is phenomenal.

message 7: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 65 comments I'm kind of with Trudy... I think movies should be in wide release before they're up for the Academy Awards... in the past few years, it seems that many of the nominees are for flicks that have only been out in very minimum release... it's almost like the Awards have become a marketing tool. I used to pride myself on seeing the majority of movies... but these days it's pretty impossible to see the movies and performances when many aren't in wide release until a few weeks before the awards show...

Golden Globes was good-- I like that they don't fiddle around with stuff... love Kate Winslet and want to see both movies she was honored for.

Liz (HisSheep) Ed wrote: "I really enjoyed mickey rourke's and springsteen's speeches"

Why? I felt they were both dishonoring to the industry as well as themselves. And what was with Rourke's greasy hairdo - ugh!

message 9: by Holli (new)

Holli Does anyone know when the Emmy's air?

Kuki (goodreadscomkuki) | 163 comments The Oscars are on Feb 26, has anyone watched any of the movies nominated. I think Billy Crystal will be good as host.

message 19: by Holli (new)

Holli Billy is always a great host... I like when they use him :) I've seen The Descendants, The Help, and we have Moneyball to watch at home this weekend if we get to it.

message 20: by Kuki (new)

message 21: by Holli (new)
