I was impressed! She had the perfect combination of luck and hard work. I was also amazed that she stayed with her husband and gave her children as stable of an upbringing as she possibly could. In today's world, it would have been a completely different story.

A little slow coming along with that #7 -- I had a few false starts after #6 that I just couldn't continue reading!

15. The Right Attitude to Rain (Alexander McCall Smith) 4/19

17. The Comforts of a Muddy Saturday (Alexander McCall Smith) 4/26

20. All Creatures Great and Small (James Herriot) 5/15
21. All Things Bright and Beautiful (James Herriot) 5/19
22. All Things Wise and Wonderful (James Herriot) 5/26

39. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (JK Rowling) 9/1

41. Whistling In the Dark (Lesley Kagan) 9/19

43. The Man in the Picture (Susan Hill) 10/4
44. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Steig Larsson) 10/11

I was disappointed in this. The characters were flat, and not even really likeable. The storyline borrowed heavily (and clumsily) from mythology, the Narnia books, LOTR, and Harry Potter, to name a few. This book had good reviews, and I'm not sure why. I finished it because I needed to know how it ended, needn't have bothered. Will not be reading Grossman's other novel, Codex.
