Jackie Duncan | 43 comments Marian,

I generally agree, however it is my understanding Gillian Flynn wrote the screen play and changed the ending herself. That's the only reason I'd like to see how the movie ends.

Marian Ohhhh I see..should be interesting then:)Im still un-decided if I want to see it.

I read Sharp Objects after Gone Girl and didn't think it was as good. If you do read it, will you post what you thought? Her other book is called Dark Places and I haven't bothered to read that one. So many books, so little time!

message 154: by Jackie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jackie Duncan | 43 comments Diana, I likewise read Gone Girl first then Sharp Objects and also have not read Dark Places. However, I liked Sharp Objects and thought the plot was more realistic than Gone Girl. I thought she bent the characters "characters" in Gone Girl as the book moved on to somewhat cheat the reader. But I still liked it and plan to see the movie. I understand Gillian wrote the screen play and changed the ending.

Marian I just hope the movie doesn't have a crappy ending..I loved this book..just the way it was.I didn't care to much for her other 2 books..they were all about drinking, drugs, sex, you know, the usual of now adays.

Clara | 22 comments Having read and enjoyed Gone Girl, I read Sharp Objects. I didn't like it nearly as much. It's been a while so I don't remember it all, but did not like the topic of "cutting".

Sandi (sandikal) | 89 comments I've been seeing clips of the movie on the Today show this week. I pictured Amy as seeming very all-American wholesome. (Not her real personality, but you know.) They've been showing the scene where Nick and Amy meet a lot. She sounds like a sultry seductress. It's just not right.

message 158: by Marian (new) - rated it 5 stars

Marian I think I read where Amy was a sociopath and Nick was Narcissitic..I guess were just going to have to wait til the movie comes out.Not to sure if Im going to like it or not...

I plan to see the movie, too. Is it true that Flynn changed the ending?

As for the characters in Gone Girl, I have to say that I've known some incredibly wily and self-centered narcissists! For some reason, the creepiness of Nick and Amy didn't seem all that over the top to me.....Yikes!! (Seriously, I do not know anyone who ever faked their own demise the way Amy did.)

message 160: by Marian (new) - rated it 5 stars

Marian Yes,she did change the ending..althou Im not sure why.

message 161: by Merc (new) - rated it 5 stars

Merc (oswinssouffle) | 21 comments I would rather not see the movie itself...I wonder if anyone will spoil the movies new ending!

message 162: by Marian (new) - rated it 5 stars

Marian Well,I have heard from 1 of my friends so fsr about the movie..she hated the ending!!

Merc (oswinssouffle) | 21 comments Oh, boy. All the more reason for me to not see it. Even on netflix.

Marian We saw the movie on the weekend, the hubby and I.It was well done!Rosemund Pike did an award winning job of Amy.

I am glad to hear you thought it was well done. My mom & I made a pact to see the movie several months ago. We were going to go this evening but I am under the weather so the suspense continues.
I heard it is 2hrs. 25 min. in length. Did you feel it moved along well?

Your right,it is 2.5 hours long and it pretty much goes with the book,I think. But its Roseamund Pikes perfornace that really got me!!She is an under rated actress, but not for long, after this movie has been out for awhile.I loved the book!

message 167: by Sandi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sandi (sandikal) | 89 comments My husband and I saw it this weekend. It was very well done. Didn't feel like 2-1/2 hours at all. My only complaint would have to be Neil Patrick Harris as Desi. He was so awkward. Maybe it had something to do with him being a comedic actor in a dramatic role and doing a very graphic sex scene. Oh, and I just kept seeing Doogie Hauser.

For the person who wanted a spoiler on the ending: (view spoiler)

message 168: by Marian (new) - rated it 5 stars

Marian Sorry, the book ended differently. But in my mind thou,Gone Girl movie looks like it could go to a #2..what do you think Sandi?

message 169: by Amy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Amy | 463 comments The movie ended slightly differently, but not enough to call it a different ending in my opinion. I did not even realize it was almost 2 and half hours - it was captivating, even for someone who had read the book. It was one of the more well done movies from books in my opinion. Maybe because the author was involved with the screenplay?

message 170: by Sandi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sandi (sandikal) | 89 comments I agree with Amy. It's been two years since I read the book and I didn't think the ending was any different, except maybe in minor details that I forgot from reading it.

message 171: by Marian (new) - rated it 5 stars

Marian The only complaint I had with the movie..was the darn music in the background.Sometimes you couldn't really hear what people were saying..my #1 complaint..lol!

That's a problem with too many movies. Even worse is when sound effects are as loud or louder than dialogue. Neither bothers me too much in theaters, but I can hardly watch a movie at home without turning the sound up to hear people talking. Then, the music and the sound effects are too loud.

Couldn't agree more. Rosemund Pike did a bang up job as Amy. So glad Reese Witherspoon didn't take the role.

I, too, was glad Witherspoon didn't take on the role of Amy. (It turns out she has other films coming out anyway.)

It's interesting that someone mentioned a second film - - the book ended in an open-ended fashion, leaving some possibility for a follow-up. But - frankly, I am done with Nick and Amy!

message 175: by Esther (last edited Nov 29, 2014 01:24AM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Esther (eshchory) I went to see the film with my husband. Poor sausage I didn't give him much idea of what the story was about: for the first 20 minutes he nearly fell asleep, then he woke up with a bang and during 'that' scene with Desi he was nearly sick.
He came out of the cinema looking dazed saying it was the best, but most disturbing, film he had seen in ages.

Personally I really enjoyed the book until the ending, even though I guessed the twist.
The film was good although they I felt they made Nick more sympathetic. Rosamund Pike was brilliant and the ending, though not really different from the book, was blood-chillingly effective.
