M I read this book in the college and have never been able to remember the name of it, but have thought of it often as particularly good. It's about a girl who is a Messiah figure (basically, the 2nd coming of Christ). This next part is going to sound all porno, but it's not: she uses sex to heal people. The book deals with it in a very touchy-feely and hippie dippy way. That's her power or balm or whatever. She has sex with people (male and female) and heals their pain and they become all euphoric. There's a lot of talk of auras, particularly the colors of people's auras and how she's always been able to see them (which is how she knows somebody needs healing). In the end, she and Satan have... well, a sex-off. And whoever climaxes first loses. I believe she wins. I'd love to re-read it to see if it's actually as good as I thought it was at the time. Anybody else read it?

Zing (jeniferholly) | 23 comments This sounds like a Tom Robbins book... Maybe "Another Roadside Attraction"? Probably not, but it sounds like it could be. LOL

Evan | 27 comments It's no Robbins book I've read (which is most--and it certainly isn't ARA). His plots aren't usually that, um, straightforward? But I sadly don't have a better guess.

M It's not Tom Robbins, but thanks for trying! I think it was a female author. I could be wrong, though... it was so long ago that I read it.

Zing (jeniferholly) | 23 comments Well, no harm in trying. I have read all but two Tom Robbins books, and while I didn't think I had the right answer, the character you described sounded like something he would pen. ;)

Lori (tnbbc) Michelle, I read that book a long time ago, and didnt think that it fit with the description above... i dont remember that book having a lot of sex in it. That book was about the female messiah, but she was created, wasnt she? grown to maturity in a lab or something?

Penny | 22 comments There was another thread about something similar a few months ago. Is this any help?

Min (unktehi) | 22 comments I read Bechard's The Second Greatest Story Ever Told, and I don't remember there being a lot of sex in it. Mostly she smiled at people, which is the thing I remember most.

Of course, it has been years since I read the book, so I could be wrong. I did really enjoy The Second Greatest Story Ever Told, so I would recommend it anyway.

M— | 379 comments Maybe Only Begotten Daughter?

Although a laboratory was involved in that story, which makes it more along the lines of Lori's suggestion in Message 8.

Kathleen Towne | 2 comments This may sound crazy but it's true. I'm the Only Begotten Daughter, though the facts of my life are naturally very different than Mr. Morrow's novel. I do have the answers to disease and the problems of our lives, however. Just can't seem to get anyone to listen ! What's new? It's Messi Ah ?, when one is the Messiah !

M Yup, I think that's it (The Magic Touch)! Thanks so much--it's been bugging me for years. Will definitely have to re-read to see if my 18-year-old self was just easily impressed. :)
