Hi! I just found this group. My name is Mary; by day I'm a software technical writer. In my "non-corporate" hours I write the middle-grade fantasy series Hero's Sword under the name M.E. Sutton. Like a lot of adults, I love YA and MG books, and as the mother of 2 (13 and 11) a lot of that is in my house. Luckily, I share my son's love of Rick Riordan.Looking forward to some good discussion and finding some new books!

Hi. My name is Louise Lintvelt and I am a "Newbie" to the world of publishing. I have just released two ebooks in my series: The Secret Ramblings of Harriet Hughes. The series is a light hearted and funny but with no zombies, monsters, vampires or aliens it is proving a little difficult to get exposure. It is aimed at middle grade girls. I would like to get some exposure and meet middle grade authors and readers.I am so glad I stumbled on this group!

Serena Schreiber
Hi, I am the author of many written books for ages 8-12 and anyone who loves animals and magic. My only published books at this time are the first two in my uniquely written Mortal Realm Witch series. The series basically starts off with the first two books being made up of 6 stories which can be read individually or as chapters to continue a larger story. Book One's stories are all written to be stand alone so all information needed for that specific story, such as characters or back events, get reintroduced. Then in the second book, some of the reintroduction's disappear while still allowing most of the stories to remain stand alone. Then Book Three is a full length novel, four has short stories again but will read even more like chapters than the first two books, and the fifth and last book is once again a full length novel. After this the series has three companion books, 1, and 3 will be short stories that are all individual, except one story in the first companion features two stories with the same character. Companion 2 is told like book 4 of the series because both these books are told by the same character. Finally there will be a couple of individual free stories, and cheap eBook featuring two individual stories about one of my characters. All this information and more is available on the Mortal Realm Witch website, http://www.mortalrealmwitch.com so I will stop talking about my series now and move on.
I am also writing many other books about animals, the relationships between humans and animals, magic, the supernatural, superheroes, and more all for the same age group. More about these can be learned about via the Meet the Anipals section on my author website: http://www.jenniferpriester.com.
Besides writing I spend a lot of time reading books, many of which are MG reads, bike riding with my dog now that I recently got a doggy bike basket for him, drawing, and doing some other things as well.

Hi Everyone,I'm so happy to find you all. I've just published my first middle grade/tween novel, Elizabeth's Landing. A family and environmental saga set on the Texas Gulf during the BP oil spill in 2010. Follow me over to the Author's page for more info. Looking forward to learning more about the group and our books.
First post on Goodreads. I've been writing since forever, but never tried to publish until now. I've written my first Action-Adventure novel for middle grade. I'm still in the proof reading/final draft process. I hope to start looking for agents in the Fall/Winter while I learn even more from my fellow writers. Thanks
Hello,Dad to a twelve-year-old daughter, who is a voracious reader. Also an author of thrillers for adults. I'm about to publish my first middle grade novel, Extolziby Gruff and the 39th College. In a former life I wrote for children's television in the UK, and it was a lot more fun in many ways than writing adult drama.
Great to see so much enthusiasm and so many readers and authors here.
Hello, I have designed a comprehension packet for my new release.http://www.amazon.com/Mysteries-Coyot...
Hello everyone! I'm excited and grateful that this group exists--even more so that I found it myself! I'm a husband, father of 11 kids, yes...I said ELEVEN (stay calm...it's not a contest). Also a grandfather. Funny thing is, for the past three years I thought I was a YA Author. Nope. I've been told over and over that I'm an Upper Middle Grade fantasy writer.
So I stopped fighting it. =) Teaching 12-13 year olds for sixteen years should have been my first hint. I'm an Indie author, have 7 books out as of this post--used to make comic books until my hands gave out. Now I write instead...and illustrate a picture or two on a good day.
It all started when my oldest made me buy The Spiderwick Chronicles Box Set. I was depressed at the time and she said, "Dad, you write like this." Made me cry, because I thought I'd never tell my stories again. Still don't believe I write that well, but I can't stop. Don't want to.
I'll let the kids decide if the stories are any good.
As for this group, I'm hoping to give encouragement to anyone and everyone--especially if you're struggling as an author. I understand extreme times. Hunger, pain, hopelessness and being homeless with many mouthes to feed. Don't you dare give up!!
Ever.
It's important to provide good stories to youth at this vital age in their lives. To inspire the minds and hearts of children when they're growing opinions of their own and testing all the rubbish we've taught, but didn't always show by example.
I'm rambling....sorry. Love kids and family. Excited to be here and if anyone is interested in seeing what I write, just click on my pic. If not, I'll be your friend anyway (smirk).
Thank you for creating this group!!
-Jaime

Hello SW,I teach 8th grade resource in WVa. My hope here is to find books my kids will read and enjoy and makes their struggle with words worthwhile. I fiqure kids ought to know, certainly more than their gray-haired teachers. :D
Hi everyone,My name is Nick Cook and I'm an author with my debut MG novel, Cloud Riders: The Gathering Storm, out next summer.
You may also know me as CloudRiders over on Twitter. https://twitter.com/CloudRiders
Having been a member of GoodReads for a while, I've finally gotten around to having a proper look around the site and stumbled across your group which looks great.
My website/blog is here which as you'll see I have more than a passing interest in quantum physics:

I know I'm long overdue to write a new article on there but I promise I'll get round to it next week, honest! What do you mean authors procrastinate! ;o)
Great to be onboard.
Hi Rebecca,LOL... how did you know I was still browsing through Good Reads when I should be writing. Skulks back to it! ;o)
Okay, fine then, I guess I need to stop browsing Goodreads and get to work too.
Takes one to know one, as we used to say in gradeschool!

Hi Betsy! I hope you GMGR helpful in your search for books. My mom grew up in Charleston and I used to visit West Virginia often when I was a kid -- it has the most beautiful mountains! Thanks for joining us.
Hi everybody! Sorry for not being around for a while - things have been manic as my book was finally released last week. (!!) Been running around like a giddy debut author & staring lovingly at my book on the Amazon website - ha! ha! ;-) Anyway, hopefully will have more time to join in here again now that things are settling down a bit. Thanks again to all those who helped with feedback on the cover. Have had lots of compliments on it! :-)
Oh - and I've started work on Book 2...so I might need your help with with some research questions! ;-)
Hsin-Yi
Hi Hsin-Yi,Oh you got feedback for front covers here, how. very, very useful and timely to know that. I'm actually putting together the brief for an illustrator right now. In my former life I was a computer games art director, but feedback from the good folk on here would also be useful. The golden rule seems to be that cover art must also work when reduced to the thumbnail image that Amazon use.
Thanks, Betsy. :o)Trying to resist the urge to browse this forum too often as it's far too interesting. Mantra to self... must concentrate on writing. Repeat 1000 times! ;o)
I am Gita and I have first read quite a few posts here before introducing myself. i am impressed by the focus teachers and parents alike have about steering young children towards reading.I believe middle level reading is very important because it shapes our future reading. This is also the crucial stage where children have to be weaned away from easy reading (comics, etc) to chapter books and full length novels.
I remember, years ago, I had spent a lot of time and selected 'The Wizard of Oz' to tempt my son and did I succeed!
My son, who is now twenty five, is a voracious reader and makes great reading choices.
A little about myself. I read a lot and I write too. Almost all my writing is for the 8-12 age group.
Maybe I'm old fashioned but I do not enjoy reading about vampires, the undead, or other dark matter so naturally, I do not write anything remotely like that.
I understand there's a separate place to promote books so I'll do that a little later.
Best Regards.

As I'm starting to see. I'll definitely post the odd book related item here. Good to be onboard.
I joined Goodreads because my publisher told me I should, but I'm staying because I'm learning a lot here. I write for the middle grades because that the period of my own life when books were like air for me -- essential to life. I still love to read books about characters who are on the threshold between childhood and adolescence. Seven years after I began writing fiction, my first novel, WASHASHORE, is coming out this month, and I hope it does well enough that I get the chance to finish and publish the several others that I have started.
Hi, I am always on the look out for a good middle grade read for my 12 year old son, who especially likes series. I read a lot of the books he reads so we can discuss them. I am an author myelf, with two middle grade books on Amazon. In fact, my son and I collaborated heavily on the books so that they would pass the kid approval test:-) I am glad I found this group and look forward to taking part.
I'm the author of "The Offenders: Saving the World While Serving Detention," a middle grade action book about bullying that I wrote with my two teenage sons. They grew up on a steady diet of Percy Jackson and Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I'm currently illustrating a book for Scholastic.
We love new members! Welcome aboard Suzanne, Kate, and Jerry! Glad you've joined us and look forward to having you join our conversations : )
Hi, I'm a retired school teacher who worked mostly as a substitute in a wide range of ages, from day care to Middle Grades. Now that I'm writing for children, I'm not sure what age my writing is for. I've had the most enthusiastic response from a 10 year old reader who said she stayed up late into the night, to read it all at once, and was very excited to hear there will be a sequel. That really surprised me so I decided to find a Middle Grade group to join. I'll be posting more in the Authors' Corner... Patricia
