Krystalyn Drown | 10 comments Hi, everyone. I'm Krystalyn. I love reading (and writing) YA and MG books. I love talking about the books I've read. Some of my favorite MG books are When You Reach Me and anything by Richard Peck.

message 503: by Murielle (new)

Murielle Cyr Hi,
I'm a retired elementary teacher who now has time to write. Reading to my students was always my favourite activity. I now compensate by writing stories for them. My first ebook, CULLOO, is an easy reader adventure story that deals with First Nation spirituality and the need to reconnect to your cultural roots. I'm now working on a picture book about a child's need to belong.
I'm looking forward to reading about everyone in the group.

message 506: by Bobbi (new)

Bobbi (bobbichukran) Hi all, I'm new here, too. My name is Bobbi Chukran and I'm an author and playwright who writes comedy for middle grade kids. I just published PRINCESS PRIMROSE and the CURSE OF THE BIG SLEEP, which is a novelization of one of my award-winning plays. It's a fairy tale detective spoof caper (LOL) featuring R. Rapunzel and S. White, Inquiry Agents to Her Majesty the Queen. It's number one in a (hopefully) three book series. PRINCESS PRIMROSE and the CURSE OF THE BIG SLEEP I also read a lot of middle grade novels, and love to talk about them! bobbi c.

G. Guff (GranpaGuff) | 5 comments Howdy Folks,

Finally managed to find the right group I think?

The name is Guff, Granpa Guff, a total grump with a big heart and an even bigger mouth.

My grankids and I scribbled a little book called Granpa Guff, the accidental astronaut.

We hope to publish another one in this series real soon.

I find the amount of websites for social media bewildering and I am slowly getting to grips with each one.

I am a hardcore two fingered typist and ask you all to have patience with an old dog who wishes to learn some new tricks.

With that in mind what other groups should I join?

Goodreads is big and I have gotten lost more than once, it took me a month to find the author section, then again I often struggle to find my glasses!

Thank you kindly for reading this guff and I hope you have a great afternoon.

sincerely

G Guff

And glad to meet you too Krystalyn, I think you'll find a lot of supportive readers and writers here.

Hi, Allison! Your mention of food scientist caught my eye (and not just because I'm a scientist too.) My middle grade daughter loves to cook and mentioned an interest in being a food scientist. :)

message 530: by Scott Johnson (new)

Scott Johnson | 1 comments I have two middle school aged daughters. They do a lot of reading on their own, and sometimes I like to read a book to them.

I joined this group because I am struggling to find books that work well for me to real aloud. Last year I read The Hobbit to them, and this worked really well.

My failures:
Then I tried The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. This did not work well, and the humorous references are a bit too obscure and did not come across in my reading. My next idea was The Princess Bride (thought we would read before showing them the movie). The sexist behavior the author fictionally attributes to himself makes this an inappropriate choice. Most recently I began reading Doyle's The Hounds of Baskerville. Unfortunately this one literally put my daughter to sleep.

So in short, I would love to see a discussion list focused on books for parents to read aloud to (or with) their middle school aged children.

I just finished my first year teaching at the 5th grade level. Inspired by The Book Whisperer, I have been reading MG books (old and new!) as much as possible -- there are just so many good books to read! My TBR "pile" includes my bookcase....with the books two deep! We just had end-tables made for the living room...with book shelves :) Looking forward to being part of this community!

Helen Laycock (helenlaycock) | 127 comments Hello S.W. and all you M.G. writers.

It's taken me a year to find this group, but I'm here now!

I'm from the U.K. where the term 'M.G.' is a little unfamiliar. I write for children aged between about 7 and 12, which, I think, fits this category.

I have written nine books for children, which fall mainly into the Mystery/Adventure genre, as well as one poetry anthology. I also write for adults and have two short story collections out there, plus another book of funny poetry. I am working on my first thriller... and probably will be for some time unless someone pokes me with a pin on a regular basis.

I more or less write full time.I am a former teacher and I volunteer in a community library. I enjoy entering writing competitions and seem to spend much of my life making lists...

Thank you for having me.

Helen
