Neva (pcalico) | 11 comments I find it very helpful to have not only a word count goal, but others who are aiming for the same thing.

NaNoWriMo was an inspiration for me, gave me a huge start on a novel, and showed me what writing every day could do.

I'd like to do 50K in June or July: June has 30 days, July 31--if that makes a difference. August doesn't work for me because classes and other things start up again.

Anyone up for a summer writing spree?

message 2: by H.J. (new)

H.J. Swinford (hayleejalyn) That would be awesome! Reaching such a goal is hard to do by myself, but it would be awesome to have others to do it with! I'm in.

message 3: by Paul (new)

Paul Yes, I can do that as well. Let me know when

message 4: by Dan (new)

Dan Schwent (akagunslinger) I'm in. If NaNoWriMo taught me one thing, it's that I need a definite goal or deadline.

message 5: by Neva (new)

Neva (pcalico) | 11 comments So, you writers, you -- June or July?

message 6: by H.J. (new)

H.J. Swinford (hayleejalyn) July would be best for me. I'm spending a week in Disneyland in June and that might pose some difficulty for me.

message 7: by Paul (new)

Paul July is good for me, 'cos I'm working and teaching till end of June.

message 8: by Neva (new)

Neva (pcalico) | 11 comments I think we'll make it July, as a couple have sent in that as their preferred time, and there's no vote for June.

So--mark your calendars!

Maureen Brunner (maureenbrunner) | 8 comments Can I join too? Summer is my best writing time because I am not teaching...

message 10: by Neva (new)

Neva (pcalico) | 11 comments Of course! Anyone can join in!

I hope there are lots of writers tapping and scratching away in July -- We'll have lots of people to connect with during those hours.

Kevin | 14 comments A 50K March still sounds like a good idea to me, so I think I'll be trying regardless of how many participants can make that one.

However, I also want to try the summer version, so I'm looking forward to working with everyone here who has pledged to a 50K summer.

message 12: by Neva (new)

Neva (pcalico) | 11 comments This summer one was not intended to replace the March effort--not at all. I just though it was such a good idea, I wanted to have one when I could participate.

Maureen Brunner (maureenbrunner) | 8 comments As a warm up exercise for this summer, I joined the Blog Every Day in April (BEDA) movement. I just posted my first at http://theyalibrarian.blogspot.com/. I found out about this from author Maureen Johnson's Twitter page, http://twitter.com/maureenjohhson. And no, this isn't an April Fools day joke :).

message 14: by Paul (new)

Paul Resurrecting this ancient topic, I'm starting my 50K words on Monday. I'm on holiday all July, so it may even be more. Good luck to everyone else who's trying to achieve it.

message 15: by Renee (new)

Renee (rjmiller) I'll try, I'm not sure with all the kids running around here in July, but I'll certainly try.

message 16: by Gwendolyn (last edited Jul 15, 2009 11:48PM) (new)

Gwendolyn (drgwen) I almost forgot about the July challenge.

Sadly, far too much of this month has been spent in travel and research for a novel in-process and I'm not state-side just yet.

... but If what I've already committed to the novel this month counts, then I think I can just make it.

message 17: by Renee (new)

Renee (rjmiller) On Monday I made it past 50,000 words for July. yay me! I thought it would be a struggle right to the end, but now I know I can do it. it's a nice feeling. I'm glad i tried it.

S.S. (ssrice) | 5 comments Renee: 50,000! I'm jealous.
My end of school/summer was busier than Christmas. Now July's nearly over. wah.

Again, cudos.

message 19: by Renee (new)

Renee (rjmiller) Thanks, now I'm lazy. In three days I've done almost nothing. Well, I've edited but not much for new writing.

message 20: by tiff (new)

tiff (sydmalicious78) 50,000 is a lot of words. However, I'm just starting to research aspects of a novel I want to write- I'm just starting to outline it! Next summer would be best for me to join. Hopefully I'll have off of school and my school job (I will have to visit my other half in MI) so I think I'll be able to do it then. I'm really procrastinating with this whole novel thing. I don't think I'm ready.

Neva (pcalico) | 11 comments Wow! Thanks to everyone who tried!

Unknown to most of you, I'm an Organizer on Meetup.com/RoundRockWriters. Several of the members there worked alongside the rest of you here.

It turned out most of us decided that we were working on the "wrong" goal -- whatever we tried, we kept going back to work on novels we'd already started. Adding new scenes, rewriting, doing all sorts of things that don't add up to a lot of words.

However, a lot of Writing Work got done!

However others got near or passed the 50K goal - or a self-set goal.

Remember -- National Novel Writing Month is in November. Their site: http://www.nanowrimo.org/

My main difficulty is going to be getting my mind of the current one, and sticking to a new one so the 50K will come easier.

message 23: by Paul (new)

Paul Hi all, just got back from about three weeks in Wales. Actually started writing a new novel on July 15th, and as of yesterday, have 92,122 words, so passed 50K by the end of July. I wil have passed 100K in a month, if that counts.

message 24: by Renee (new)

Renee (rjmiller) NO way Paul. You said July. Only 92,000 words? Pathetic.

I'm so jealous.

Paul, only one question. Are they all useable? If so, that is way more than fantastic.

S.S. (ssrice) | 5 comments Show offs.
:-)

message 27: by Paul (new)

Paul Well, I would think about half of them will remain in the final draft, which is pretty standard for me.

Anyway, I like showing off :)

message 28: by Tim (last edited Sep 10, 2009 06:31AM) (new)

Tim (timcampbell) | 17 comments actually Paul, 50% is pretty good by my standards. I lose about that much and then my editor takes over :)
