I have more time on my hands and I am missing my classic horror. Is anyone interested in reading something with me? I think we can give ourselves a month or two if necessary.

Possible suggestions:

The Manuscript Found in Saragossa by Jan Potocki
Vathek by William Beckford
The Haunted Hotel by Wilkie Collins

If you have suggestions, please let me know.

Benjamin Uminsky (benjaminu) | 37 comments What are your thoughts on reading the Golem by Meyrink? I ask because I should be getting in that gorgeous Centipede Press copy in July. I'd love to read it and discuss.

I would be open to reading it in the future if I have time to acquire a copy, Benjamin. If you want to start a thread in July, I'm sure others will jump in and join you. Let me know if you need me to set it up for you.

I haven't read that one in years, but I still have my copy.

Paulo "paper books always" Carvalho (chevalierdulys) I will read it too. I have a copy here of the Haunted Hotel.

message 11: by Char (new)

Char I would be interested. The Haunted Hotel looks good.

Great! I just bought myself a copy the other day and wasn't sure when I'd have time to get round to reading it.

I'll have to order a copy. I'll try to join in as much as I can. I feel like I've "lost" huge chunks of my life lately to migraines. Ugh. But I'm still here!

Oh, that sucks Martha. I know how you feel and hope there's something that can be done for you. They do steal chunks of your life, don't they?

message 18: by J (new)

J (blkdoggy) I'm game, I'll give either story a try. Downloaded Haunted Hotel.

Thanks for your concern guys. I am on new meds and they seem to be helping.

Couldn't find the Haunted Hotel at the used bookstore. I'll be ordering the "budget copy" of it on Amazon.

message 30: by Ron (new)

Ron | 24 comments It's been a while since I've read 'The King in Yellow'. Not sure how many folks here have read Chambers.

I haven't read it. I'd love to read it in August.

It's free on Kindle:

and

Project Gutenberg:

I think I have it in print as well.

message 32: by Ron (new)

Ron | 24 comments It's an amazing collection. In fact, a few years ago there was a themed anthology done that was very good, also. If I can recall the title I'll post it.

Benjamin, I don't have a copy of The Golem, but I would be happy to create a discussion thread so you can discuss it with others.

Sounds great Jon. Of course any and all are invited!! I have been dying to read Meyrink, particularly after I bought a homage anthology to Meyrink, published by Ex Occidente Press Cinnabar's Gnosis by Dan T. Ghetu

I picked up The Golem back in the 80s, when I was checking out horror's roots.
