message 11: by Kate (new)

Kate (ficthoughts) | 438 comments Lucky people - enjoying Summer.

I'm from Queensland, Australia and whilst we don't get anywhere near as cold as most places in the world, it's colder than I would like in winter. :P

the black cats is a good team name but it seems really familiar. Was the 13th team last round the black cats?

That would actually work for YA Pnr, Nici.

message 23: by Dana (new)

Dana (erato) | 922 comments So the phrase GR Grimoire keeps getting stuck in my head but I'm not sure how to make it a name or if it even fits.

The GR Grimoire?
The GR Grimoire Gals?
The Clever Coven?
or something similar...

I kind of like the GR Grimoire Gals since it has a reference to GR and has a 'book' in the title but would love to see what you all are thinking of in this line.

Dana (erato) | 922 comments Oh how opportune! YA paranormal. I just brought home City of Fallen Angels-perfect. :)

I will be reading

message 26: by Dana (new)

Dana (erato) | 922 comments Also, who would like to do the captain bit? This is my 4th BSB and I have done the captain thing so new blood is called for. :) Anyone game?

message 27: by Ming (new)

Ming | 247 comments For YA I'll do with
Silence (The Queen of the Dead #1)
by Michelle Sagara

message 28: by Nici (new)

Nici (queennici102) | 697 comments I am partial to the clever coven

message 29: by Nici (new)

Nici (queennici102) | 697 comments If the library has it in, I will be reading Fade for the YA. Paranormal shelf. I am trying to work on series I have already started before starting any more.

message 30: by Kate (new)

Kate (ficthoughts) | 438 comments I quite like the Clever Coven too :)

For YA paranormal I'll read Marked Marked (House of Night, #1) by P.C. Cast

I bought a copy a few months ago in a boxed set with two other books I wanted and just haven't gotten around to reading Marked yet so this is a great excuse :)

And I don't think I'm enough of an organized person to be team captain.

Judithe | 6371 comments Happy shelf-day, everyone!

The virtual tracker of all shelves stamped & all bingo cards is up. I copied up the cards from each thread, and need other eyes to check that there are no mistakes. If the captain or an enthusiastic teammate could pop over to check the notice, then your card and let me know it's OK, I would really appreciate it! Many, many thanks!

message 34: by Dana (new)

Dana (erato) | 922 comments I have to return Raven Cursed to the library soon so I decided to read my free space book really quick before reading my YA para book. I was up really late but got through 3/4 of it (read: I'm really tired C=) so I should be able to finish it by tonight. Good stuff here so far. I love Jane Yellowrock!

message 35: by Dana (new)

Dana (erato) | 922 comments And thanks Judithe! It's so nice to have a quicky summary to reference. :)

message 36: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 54 comments For my free space
Rise from Darkness (Battle for Souls #1)
by Ciara Knight

The GR Grimoire Gals, sounds good to me.
Dana I think you should be captain, since you have alot of experience already :) If you don't mind doing it.

message 37: by Dana (new)

Dana (erato) | 922 comments I don't mind doing it at all if that is what you ladies all agree to. Just want to make sure that if someone is itchin' to be mon capitan they speak up. We'll see what Nici and Ming think. If neither of them is hot for the job, I'll set up some links and get our listings going.

Making Father's Day brunch right now so I'm off to cook. We're having make your own crepes buffet. Fresh strawberries or bananas w/ Nutella (my fav) YUM!!!

Dana (erato) | 922 comments Soooooo...I just finished my book. W-O-W. How's about that for a lot of action? Whew!

Raven Cursed (Jane Yellowrock, #4) by Faith Hunter
Week (N/A): free space
Completed: June 17th, 2012
Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★
Review: I was a huge fan of Faith Hunter's Rogue Mage series so I was skeptical about switching over from her post-apoc success to an urban-fantasy based on Native American lore. Native American based faction can be so poorly executed, and more often than not, is. This series however was just another reassurance to me that Faith Hunter always puts her big girl panties on before she writes. She is awesome!

I really dislike writers who try so hard for complete stand alone novels when writing a series that they repeat insane amount of info in each installment. Hunter doesn't do that and she gets a big nod of respect from me in that regard. Her JY novels never repeat info unless it is immediate and pertinent. For that I am truly grateful. :)

This book in the series was super action-packed. So much so that there were points where I was forgetting all the junk that Jane needed to take care of. Even with all the secondary and tertiary plot threads happening, it was well balanced and the tie ins were all reasonable and feasible and therefore added to the story. I never feel like Hunter overworks her plot elements and this was just another example of her well worked craft.

I only had one complaint which was in regard to the ending. This one had a bit of that, "Oh, right. We're done now." These just kind of stop and don't allude to what may happen in the next book. I'm just left wondering. *crap* Some might call this quality writing. I call it cruel and unusual punishment.

Regardless, I would definitely recommend the book and will continue on with the series. (a.k.a.: When is that next book coming out, dang it?!? C= )

message 41: by Dana (new)

Dana (erato) | 922 comments Well, my team has spoken. C= I'll do my best ladies. I'm feeling good about this round...I feel victory on the wind. (Or is that my 'stuffed like a goose' sated and happy feeling from brunch.....hhmmm.) We're so going to kick some butt!

I'm going to convert my first post above into an info post then so all our stuff is right on page one. Let me know if there is any other info you want to see there.

Dana (erato) | 922 comments I'm supposed to blow kisses to my fans now right? *dang...where did I put those fans?* I knew I forgot something! C=

I have converted my first check-in post into a team stats post. I added some extra info and links to try to keep the post as small as possible. These stats posts can get half a page long if the game goes on very long. (that 'spoiler' at the bottom is just me condensing my original words in that post so disregard that)

We do still need a name though. Any other suggestions for names? The Clever Coven had a few votes so far but we can take some more suggestions. Let your creativity flow! What do you ladies think?

ETA: Oh, and sorry if I got your time zone wrong. It has been a few decades since geography captured my attention.

message 46: by Dana (new)

Dana (erato) | 922 comments Just a reminder to everyone as well. When you do start posting reviews they need to include the date you completed them, the star rating, and a review of the book. The review doesn't need to be as long as all the babble that I posted above (that's for sure!) but per the game rules, it does need to have noted what you liked and didn't like about the book and whether or not you will continue with the series if it is part of one.

Just a reminder! Later C=
