Hello,

I missed the last round of BBS due to a reading & goodreads slump that lasted months! :{ I'm just happy things have picked up for me lately and so glad not to have missed out on this round.

Good suggestions Lisa. I like Reckless Readers and Tenacious Ten. We could also use the roman numeral for ten and use that in the name i.e. X-treme Readers.

Steph Ann | 1163 comments Everyone is much more creative than I am! I think my brain has checked out for the day. I'm a fan of Reckless Readers, Tenacious Ten, and also Daffodil's idea of X-treme Readers.

Daffodil, I also had a reading and goodreads slump not too long ago, and it definitely feels good to get back to reading!

It does feel good. My friends (non-readers for the most part) would look at a read count in January and March of 8 and think it was excellent, but that's really low for me. I got a fair amount of reading done in May though, with 19 books. I manage to get a lot of reading done on the bus ride to and from work everyday, add in the lunch hour and I can achieve a pretty big chunk of reading just in those odd moments. During my slump I was usually working Math & Logic puzzles in my free time.

message 17: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 1163 comments I've taken up the habit of listening to audiobooks while I'm at work, provided I'm doing something that doesn't require a whole lot of concentration. I haven't had a whole lot going on at work lately, so I've been able to get a lot of books "read" that way.

message 18: by Lisa P (last edited Jun 15, 2012 03:44PM) (new)

Lisa P | 515 comments Wow Daffodil! 19 books in one month...I'm impressed!!! There is no way I could do that many. I don't get to read much during the weekdays though, so most of my reading is done in the evenings before bed and weekends.

Great team name suggestion...I really like X-treme Readers.

Is anyone interested in the Captain position? Since this is my first time playing, I really have no interest in doing that. Hopefully someone will volunteer.

message 19: by Lisa P (new)

Lisa P | 515 comments By the way, a little bit about myself. I am married with two twin boys. We live in North Carolina but are moving soon to Tennessee. I have always been a reader my entire life and am now trying to pass that interest onto my boys. They do like to read, but so far don't love it...I hope that will develop as they get older. I pretty much like all genres and like to jump around quite a bit...I do get bored reading the same type of books all the time...I seem to go in phases. Some of my favorites are Historical Fiction, Paranormal, Urban Fantasy and Action Advenure.

message 20: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 1163 comments How old are your boys, Lisa? I don't have any kids yet, but I spend as much time as I can with my niece, who just turned 1 at the end of May. When she gets older, I definitely want to try to get her to read more than my sister does! I seemed to have inherited the reading gene from my father, but my sister never got it.

I live in Bloomington, IL, which is pretty much right in the center of the state. I've been here pretty much my whole life and love living close to my family. I go in phases with my reading as well, some of my favorites being Historical Romance, Paranormal, Urban Fantasy, and pretty much anything by Stephen King.

Since it's my first time playing, I'm not sure I'm comfortable volunteering as Captain, as I'm not quite sure how it works. However, if no one else really wants to do it, I can probably figure out how to do it.

I'm really looking forward to Sunday getting here!

message 21: by Lisa P (new)

Lisa P | 515 comments Hi Steph Ann! My boys are 11...they are fraternal twins and nothing alike. In fact, their reading tastes are very different too. I don't think they have ever read the same books. They are a lot of fun and best of friends most of the time.

message 22: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 1163 comments Sounds like my sister and me when we were growing up. We're very different in personality and reading tastes (when she does read), but she's my best friend. :)

message 23: by Kerstin (new)

Kerstin | 862 comments Hi all! I'm currently living in Australia, but I'm originally from Germany and have also spent a couple of fantastic years in England. I've always loved reading and read most genres, though everything UF, paranormal and mythological related seems to have made to the top of my list over the past years.

As far as names go, I really like Reckless Readers, Tenacious Ten and X-treme Readers.

I'm not overly fond of becoming team captain,so I'd be happy for somebody else to volunteer, but if no one does I can probably get it done.

Looking forward to the shelf announcement!

message 24: by Lisa P (new)

Lisa P | 515 comments Sounds like you've travelled quite a bit Kerstin. I have been to England and Germany, but not Australia...would love to go there sometime.

I thought I would go ahead and choose my free space book. Thinking of going with Firelight Firelight by Kristen Callihan . Anyone read this yet?

message 25: by Lisa P (new)

Lisa P | 515 comments I counted up everyone's choices for team names so far (please let me know if I have made any errors):

Kerstin-Reckless Readers, Tenacious Ten, X-treme Readers

Steph Ann-Reckless Readers, Tenacious Ten, X-treme Readers

Cristina-Blissful Bookworms, Babes with Books, Reckless Readers, Tenacious Ten

Daffodil-Reckless Readers, Tenacious Ten, X-treme Readers

Lisa-X-treme Readers

Which comes out to:

Reckless Readers - 4 votes
Tenacious Ten - 4 votes
X-treme Readers - 4 votes

Does anyone else want to add another vote or submit another suggestion? Otherwise we could have a run-off vote with these three choices?

message 26: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 1163 comments I haven't read Firelight yet, but I believe I've heard good things about it.

I have no other suggestions for team names, but I think my favorite of the three is X-treme Readers. :)

message 27: by Lisa P (last edited Jun 16, 2012 11:26AM) (new)

Lisa P | 515 comments X-treme Readers gets my vote too.

I just finished a really great book today if anyone is into post-apocalyptic/dystopian stuff. It's called Wool Omnibus Edition.

message 28: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 1163 comments Added it to my TBR list! :)

I think my Free Space read is going to be Queen of Shadows (Shadow World, #1) by Dianne Sylvan , which is on the group's bookshelf. I've been meaning to start this series for a while, and now seems like the perfect opportunity!

message 29: by Lisa P (new)

Lisa P | 515 comments Steph Ann, that one has been on my TBR pile forever...maybe I'll have to read it during this game as well.

message 30: by Lisa P (new)

Lisa P | 515 comments By the way, I am sending everyone a friend request...hope that is ok?

message 31: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 1163 comments That's a good idea! I'm going to send friend requests too.

Lisa, I've got so many books on my TBR list, it's a bit overwhelming. It's so easy for things to get lost in the shuffle. I've seen a lot of talk lately about the Shadow World series though, which is what made me think to look for it on the group's bookshelf for the free space read. :)

message 32: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Lisa wrote: "Wow Daffodil! 19 books in one month...I'm impressed!!! There is no way I could do that many. I don't get to read much during the weekdays though, so most of my reading is done in the evenings be..."

It may just be an indicator that I need a life. LOL. I don't have kids and I carry a book with me constantly. I'll even read while we're watching TV. Where at in Tennessee are you moving to? I lived in Murfreesboro, TN for a while and still have family down in Marshall County. I currently live in Danville, IL (Hello Steph Ann) which is right on the Indiana border and 40 minutes away from U of I in Champaign.

I played the first three rounds of BSB, so being team captain wouldn't bother me. But I don't have internet access at home. I can get on during the weekday, not in the evenings and occasionally not on the weekends. The main thing the captain needs to do is keep track of what everyone is reading and ask Steph for our bingo card stamp when we're ready for it. What about co-captains? I could keep track of where everyone is at in reading during the week, if someone else could ask for our stamp when it falls at a time I don't have access.

message 33: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Lisa, I haven't read Firelight yet. I requested it from Inter-library Loan and it is in transit to me, so I'll probably be reading it soon. I'm probably going to read June's BOM Deadly Descendant (Nikki Glass, #2) by Jenna Black for my Free Space.

Steph Ann, I really enjoyed Queen of Shadows and fully intended to continue reading the series, but somehow never managed it. Too many good book series out there and not nearly enough time to finish them all.

message 34: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 1163 comments Nice to have a fellow Illinoisan (is that a word?) on the team, Daffodil! :) I also read while watching TV, and my Kindle is always in my purse ready to go whenever I have a free moment.

I'd be ok with having co-captains, and I could be the one to request the stamp if no one else wants to do it. I have internet access at home, so it shouldn't be a problem for me. I was just nervous about taking on the entire captain job my first time in the game. :)

message 35: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 1163 comments There are definitely way too many good series out there, Daffodil. I'm hoping this game gives me a chance to start some I haven't gotten around to yet.

message 36: by Lisa P (new)

Lisa P | 515 comments Daffodil, we might have been neighbors in the past...I lived in Old Hickory quite a while ago (too many years to count). I will now be moving to the Clarksville area. I have never been to IL but lived a lot of years close by in MN...I definitely don't miss those cold winters. I know MN is farther north, but doesn't IL have some fairly cold winters too?

You and Steph Ann being Captain and Co-Captain works for me. Since I will be in the middle of a move the next month or so, I definitely don't want to commit myself to that kind of responsibility :)

I have a Kindle too that I love...never leave home without it! I have really enjoyed the Kindle library lending.

message 37: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 1163 comments IL can definitely have cold winters! We got lucky this past year, with it being pretty mild, but I think we're going to pay for it with a hot summer!

message 38: by Lisa P (last edited Jun 16, 2012 03:11PM) (new)

Lisa P | 515 comments I just checked and the first shelf has been announced...It is Young Adult Paranormal (sorry I don't know how to post a link).

I have to admit that this is probably my least favorite of all the shelves. I don't think I have ever read a YA of any kind. If anyone has some suggestions for me, please feel free to share.

message 39: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 1163 comments Lisa, Vampire Academy is a pretty good series, although I don't like the first book as much as I do the rest of the series. I've also heard good things about The Moral Instruments series, but haven't read it yet myself.

I'll post my choice once I've had a chance to look at the shelf a little more. I think I know what book I want to read; I just need to find out if it's on the shelf. :)

message 40: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 1163 comments Speaking of Vampire Academy, I'm going to be reading Bloodlines (Bloodlines, #1) by Richelle Mead for this shelf. :) Hopefully, I'll have time to get started on it tonight!

message 41: by Lisa P (new)

Lisa P | 515 comments Steph Ann, the Mortal Instruments series does sound good...thanks for the suggestion. I think I will read City of Bones City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare for this shelf.

So are you all going to read the first shelf book first or the free space book first?

message 42: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 1163 comments Glad I could help! I think I'm going to read the first shelf book first, and then get started on the free space book.

message 43: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments And of course I just read Enclave (Razorland, #1) by Ann Aguirre and Paranormalcy (Paranormalcy, #1) by Kiersten White earlier this week. I have a copy of Generation Dead by Daniel Waters that I picked up real cheap at Big Lots, so I may read that. I'll go back over the list and make my final decision later.

Are we in agreement over X-treme Readers for our team name? If so, I'll let Steph know.

message 44: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 1163 comments I'm all for X-treme Readers! :)

message 45: by Kerstin (new)

Kerstin | 862 comments I like X-treme Readers too!

I'l be reading Radiant Shadows (Wicked Lovely, #4) by Melissa Marr for the first shelf. I realized I started this series about 3 years ago and still haven't finished it...

message 46: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments That's four votes for X-treme Readers, so I'll let Steph know.

Just to let you know, I'm going to send friend requests out to the rest of the team.

message 47: by Kerstin (new)

Kerstin | 862 comments Yay, we have a name!

I've also thought about my Free Space book and I think I will either go for Marked (Eternal Guardians, #1) by Elisabeth Naughton or Jacob (Nightwalkers, #1) by Jacquelyn Frank . They are both on the group bookshelf and have been sitting on my Kindle for ages.

message 48: by Lisa P (new)

Lisa P | 515 comments Yeah we're official now...love the team name! Happy reading everyone :)

message 49: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 1163 comments Yay, for us officially having a team name! :)

Kerstin, I have both your potential free space books on my TBR list, so I look forward to finding out if you like them or not, no matter which one you choose!

message 50: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Judithe | 6371 comments Happy shelf-day, everyone!

The virtual tracker of all shelves stamped & all bingo cards is up. I copied up the cards from each thread, and need other eyes to check that there are no mistakes. If the captain or an enthusiastic teammate could pop over to check the notice, then your card and let me know it's OK, I would really appreciate it! Many, many thanks!
