Keeping books separate

Hi! I'm not a very active librarian, so apologies if this is a stupid question.

I want to add a novella that has the same title and author as a short story collection. These are not separate editions - the titular short story was changed and expanded significantly and the other stories are not included in the novella version. The collection is already on Goodreads - as far as I can tell the novella is not. If I add it, particularly as it is pretty obscure, I think it is likely that someone in the future would combine it as a different edition of the same book. Is there a way I can prevent this happening?

Add a Librarian's Note to the novella.

Also, was the novella was published as a separate work? Not just as part of a collection or in a periodical?

Thanks - yeah, that should have been obvious. Yes, it was, though it included 1 story as an appendix, the book is basically the novella.
