message 1: by Jill (new)

Jill So I jut got a Kindle for today and so far the biggest decision is what to name it... Anyone got any suggestions I can steal and claim as my own ;)

message 2: by Kim (new)

Kim | 477 comments I have to say I didn't know that was a thing. My Kindle is called Kindle.

I like F451 for Fahrenheit 451. From your book shelf, it seems you prefer fantasy. Maybe a name from your favorite fantasy character?

message 4: by Seawood (new)

Seawood Mine is called Fenella (which cracks up Kindle Support UK everytime I call!). Our household computers are named after "bad guys" from 80's cartoons like Dangermouse. Fenella is the Kettle Witch from Chorlton & The Wheelies. Definitely one of my formative influences growing up ;-)

message 5: by Madison E. (new)

Madison E. (madiemartin) | 40 comments Mine is WallE-Reader.

I like naming after a favorite fantasy character. Maybe even a locale from one of your favorite fantasy book.

message 6: by Shaline (new)

Shaline Lopez | 42 comments I named mine Ken. Ken the Kindle.

message 7: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Benzin | 3 comments I named mine Mr.Darcy!

message 8: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (newtomato) | 2 comments Mine is named Soma.

message 9: by Linguana (new)

Linguana | 148 comments I own a Kobo and unoriginally named it "Kobold" which is German for leprechaun or goblin. :)

message 10: by Napoez3 (new)

Napoez3 | 158 comments People actually name their kindles? Now I feel bad for not naming it....

message 11: by Dustin (new)

Dustin (dustincorreale) Suddenly I've become aware of this missed opportunity

I know, right? Now I have to think of something obscure, yet still witty...

message 13: by Nick (new)

Nick (whyzen) | 1295 comments I haven't named my kindles yet. But if I were going to then I imagine "never-ending-time-sink" is at least a honest name.

message 14: by Dustin (new)

Dustin (dustincorreale) Whoa I went to my Amazon to maybe change my Kindle's name but Amazon thinks I have four times as many Kindles as I actually have (I have one). I assume this is a result of rooting.

message 15: by Sergio (new)

Sergio (sergiob) | 11 comments Hrmm... mine's Sergio's Kindle. Maybe I should name it.

message 16: by Random (new)

Random (rand0m1s) We went through a period of using an Invader Zim naming convention for our mobile devices. I never got out of the habit so my phone (which is also my ereader) is currently named Gir. :)

message 17: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (ashtheviking) | 5 comments Mine is Mimir's Well.

message 18: by terpkristin (new)

terpkristin | 4204 comments My current one is called Kristin's 3rd Kindle. My original was Kristin's Kindle. My Fire is Kristin's 2nd Kindle.

message 19: by Paul (new)

Paul Harmon (thesaint08d) | 639 comments Well I dont have one yet...its on my to do soon list...in fact the wife is looking into getting me one for Father's day...but I think I will name mine OASIS. The obvious reference is...obvious... but also after Ernest Cline's virtual escape from reality in Ready Player One.

message 20: by Tim (new)

Tim | 380 comments Very boring I'm afraid:

Tim's Kindle
Tim's iKindle
Tim's McKindle

message 21: by Dawn (new)

Dawn Betts-Green (dr_b-g) My wife named hers Wren after a character in the Preston and Child books.

message 22: by Kim (new)

Kim | 477 comments Has anyone got a skin on theirs? I've been thinking of getting one but not sure.

message 23: by Madison E. (new)

Madison E. (madiemartin) | 40 comments @Lauren Thanks! Silly pun was what I was going for makes me smile when I click "send to WallE-Reader." Also, I like the name Blackfish! (SOIAF fan here)

@Kim I have a TARDIS skin on mine. http://www.etsy.com/listing/88996777/...

message 24: by Tasha (new)

Tasha HAL I keep hoping it will become self aware.

message 25: by Jill (new)

Jill I went with Kodama in the end - I figured it felt like there should be a tree spirit in there, being all happy that I'm done with dead tree editions for the time being. :)

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

I have one named Bob which my mom uses to read. And my own Kindle I named Waldo Butters after the guy in the Dresden Files.

message 27: by Seawood (new)

Seawood Kim wrote: "Has anyone got a skin on theirs? I've been thinking of getting one but not sure."

Yes, I have Van Gogh's Starry Night on mine, from Gelaskins. But I've broken the screen on two Kindles already so now I have a Tuff-Luv case over the top which I never take off because the Kindle goes everywhere. Can't see the skin anymore really.

message 28: by Alfredo (new)

Alfredo | 62 comments MI Kindle is called Milgrim, for the William Gibson character.

message 29: by Anthony (new)

Anthony | 16 comments I'm a Terry Pratchett fan, so obviously I called mine L-Space :).

message 30: by Todd (new)

Todd (goofusmcnoofus) | 8 comments Inspired by this conversation, I renamed mine yesterday to General Buck Turgidson. But now it keeps trying to hack into NORAD and launch missiles.

message 31: by Hai (last edited Jun 12, 2012 04:52PM) (new)

Hai (angelslayer) Well. I felt bad about never naming mine. But when I look back at when my reading began, it was because of this one movie. I never really understood the ending of the movie, but it was really the story that I enjoyed.

so in memory of this movie, I shall name my Kindle, Artax, a faithful companion, who perished in the Swamp of Sorrows.

I'm kind of surprised there's no WOPR from this group, another NORAD-y type reference.

Anne | 336 comments Napoez3 wrote: "People actually name their kindles? Now I feel bad for not naming it...."

Me too. :P

My car has a name but that is only due to a persuasive Welsh friend - he names all his cars.

message 36: by Alterjess (new)

Alterjess | 319 comments Mine is Lucien, after Dream's librarian from the Sandman series.

message 37: by Ty (new)

Ty (Dubhsidhe) | 14 comments Mine is Dubh's BiblioVault. Sadly not cute, humorous or ironic. But it does fit in nicely for the naming rules for my home network.

message 38: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Benzin | 3 comments Alterjess wrote: "Mine is Lucien, after Dream's librarian from the Sandman series."

So bummed now that I didn't think of that one!!!

message 39: by Christine (new)

Christine (fluttersparkle) | 14 comments Kim wrote: "Has anyone got a skin on theirs? I've been thinking of getting one but not sure."

I have a TARDIS skin on mine, and hence I named my Kindle Idris. I thought about naming it Sexy, but decided Idris was better.

i bought this one, built in light which is a life saver. uses the power from the kindle to power it so no external powering required.

I got the same case, I really love it, I only wish the Kindle didn't slide out as easily.

message 42: by Hai (new)

Hai (angelslayer) Ty wrote: "I got the same case, I really love it, I only wish the Kindle didn't slide out as easily."

really? i find that i have a hard time getting mine out, i have the kindle touch, but i used to not like the flippable cover when i was at home, and only put it in the skin when i was taking it out, but i got over it so it stays in there all the time now. might be just that the kindle touch and the version you have are shaped differently.

message 43: by Kim (new)

Kim | 477 comments Hai wrote: "i bought this one, built in light which is a life saver. uses the power from the kindle to power it so no external powering required."

I have a case as well but that's different to a skin. A skin is a type of sticker that you can put on the front and back of it to individualise it. My fiancee had ones on hers but she broke that Kindle and hasn't got a new one yet.

I don't like using my Kindle in the case. I always take it out when reading. I love that you can read it one handed but you can't do that when it's in the case. For a light I have a booklight that I can clip on to it.

message 44: by Patricia (new)

Patricia | 7 comments I have a Nook and named mine Mr. Nookworthy, esq.

I LIKE IT! That is silly and makes me smile. :-)

message 46: by Alu (new)

Alu (aluhealz) Mine is very boring. My kindle's name is Chip. Nothing special behind it. No cute story and I didn't get it from a book.

message 47: by Patricia (new)

Patricia | 7 comments Thank you Madison, I'll take a smile any day..lol.

I'm surprised you have trouble reading your one handed with the case. The one I have is very light weight and the elastic holds the cover in back when I flip it open so I can read it one handed even with the LED light deployed.

message 49: by Kim (new)

Kim | 477 comments Have you bent the spine of the case all the way back? Just like real books I don't believe in damaging spines. I'd rather just take it out. Plus without the case my Kindle fits in my pocket.
