Tangled Speculation (TangledSpec) | 36 comments But good, sweet Maiwenn is all about pink bubbles and sparkly sweetness! How could anyone doubt the absolute rightness of Maiwenn? I was kind of hoping little sis would take her land. She needs a project. The people would adjust.

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments I like that plan. Jasmine's grown on me as the series progressed.

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments Jasmine definitely improved as the series went on. At first, I just wanted her to killed off.

message 254: by Susie (new)

Susie | 314 comments I agree about Jasmine. She was horrible in the beginning, but grew to be very supportive of Eug.

message 255: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments I'm about 60% through Shadow Heir.

It kinda has the same feel as the previous book, where they go off on a quest again, except there's more people around this time. Was surprised that Dorian asked Kiyo to come along. Yeah, I get that he's a good scout and a badass warrior, but does Dorian not have any other shapeshifting creature in his kingdom (or within Eugenie's two kingdoms)? That's just the author wanting to work Kiyo into the story again, and it's a bit of a cop out in my opinion. I have a hard time believing Dorian would want Kiyo there, even if the rulers are all supposedly working together. There aren't representatives from other affected kingdoms there, so why does Maiwenn's guy (who tried to kill Queen Eugenie) get to be there? It stretches credibility for me.

I've read 25% of Iron Crowned. Not that much has happened.

I wonder what's up with that ghost who so desperately wants Eugenie's help. Is there some bigger meaning?

I'm also very curious what will happen to Volusian in the end. At one point she talks about how she can't banish him alone. I hope he won't be stuck with Eugenie at the end. No one deserves that!

Btw, why are authors always writing the most predictable storylines? When we were told about Tim and Lara's bickering and how they never met I was like "I hope they don't meet and fall in love!" Guess what happened? They met and of course find each other attractive. *rolls eyes*

I also found the BJ scene with Eugenie and Dorian weird. Where they fight and she tells him he can't tell her what to do. But when he wants to fu**, they do it so... I don't know. It all felt odd.

There was only one scene with Kiyo so far. I want more of him!

message 257: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments Sarah, that's not uncommon for people . . . One person could obviously be the bossy one in the relationship, but when they get to the bedroom, they drastically switch roles. She may not want Dorian to tell her what to do all the time, but has no problem with domination when ti comes to sexual activities.

message 258: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments I agree with what you say Zeenat, about people submitting sexually when they are usually dominant. But in these books, I think it's just Eugenie being contrary. She has no clue what she wants, but since Dorian's hot, she goes for it.

The Tim and Lara thing was a bit eye rolling. It had the feel of the author wanting to bring various loose ends together neatly. I can't say in all honesty that I was particularly worried what happened to Tim or Lara. I hadn't really thought about them much.

Sarah, the ghost woman does have a reason for being there, so keep reading!

I agree with Lannister. I know that people can be different in the bedroom when it comes to being a dom/sub but with them it feels odd. Maybe it's another thing where, in my opinion, RM is not good at really getting into the depths of a relationship or character.

Btw, am I the only one who has to laugh when Eugenie says she and Dorian have "kinky, bad sex" and how they do all that "kinky shit"? Maybe we haven't seen it all but some ropes and a guy being a bit dominant isn't kinky shit. It's like she's a virgin who has no clue about sex, kind of cute. Or maybe RM really thinks she is bold with the sex scenes she writes. Who knows. I personally always have to snicker when she says these things.

I really wonder if Eugenie, Jasmine and Kiyo are the only half-human beings out there. I mean, couldn't Eugenie find someone else who goes searching for the Iron Crown with her? Or was that for drama's sake?

But hey, at least I get more Kiyo! :-)

I'm a bit disappointed that we didn't get to see at least one battle of the war. Or more of Gentry politics. The Otherworld is so interesting with the different kingdoms, it'd be great to see more of its society.

message 261: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments I can see that, and I agree, RM has huge trouble with her relationships and characters . . .

LOL I think we read so much, we are desensitized to the kink! I don't see how a little rope play is kinky either.

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Oh, this is cool!! Both your pics show up for me Zeenat.

You'd need different pics for the different kingdoms though. I think the one Sarah posted would be Dorian's land, since it's usually autumn there. (I'm fairly sure those aren't oak trees though!)

Goes off to look for nature pics!

This is how my land would look like. It's autumn as well but the trees are Japanes maples.

message 272: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments All those pictures are so lovely! I think that Eugenie's description of her hometown and the Thorn Land make me want to visit Arizona. I love dry heat, so that would be okay. And I love to paint landscapes, so it would be awesome to study the scenery.

If I had to make up my own Otherworld kingdom...I would be a mish mosh of different places and climates. Beaches, snowy mountains, thick forests.....

message 273: by Susie (new)

Susie | 314 comments I would have to agree with Claire I couldn't live in a place that didn't have it all. That's why I like California so much and love visiting my dad there.

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments I don't like seasons. Autumn is okay some of the time, but I despise winter. I'd keep a perpetual spring with the occasional days of summer.

message 275: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments If I had to live with one season forever, I'd live with perfect beach weather. But ideally I'd pick things from each season. Like, the color the trees turn in Autumn. And then the snow and coating of ice on the trees in winter- I love watching the snow fall at night and the smell of ice in the air. And how new and green everything is in early spring.

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Sorry, I misunderstood earlier!

Since I can control the weather too, it would stay around 20/25C (about 70/75F I think) so I guess that's summer, and it would rain only between 4am and 7am when I'm in bed. I don't like excessive heat or cold and I don't care if it's sunny or cloudy. Continual sunshine would freak me out actually. I'm just not used to it LMAO!

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments I don't much care for continual sun, either. The blinds in my room tend to stay closed.

You all posted beautiful pics. Love them!

I think the Scottish Highlands would be my second choice. I've only been there once and it was amazing.

I like the seasons. I couldn't live in a place where it is always hot or constantly cold.

I love thunderstorms as well! Last night we had one and it was awesome!

Tombstone?! What kind of name is Tombstone? Is it full of sad goths and vampire wannabees?

I am so moving there! :D

Sarah, please rant away! I love your rants.

message 291: by [deleted user] (new)

Tombstone is where the Gunfight at the OK Corral took place. It is at an elevation of about 5000 feet, so it's not too hot and not too cold. Actually, it got it's name from the silver miner who found it, based on a comment another made about how there's noting in the area but death (the Indians were killing everyone at the time). Now, sadly, it's just a tourist town.

message 292: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Well, I have heard of the OK Corral, but didn't know about Tombstone. I guess I need to watch more Westerns.

I'm not surprised it's turned into a tourist town though. Anywhere with a bit of history tries to cash in, cos tourism brings in a lot of money. It's just a shame when they destroy the feel of a place in order to cater to the tourists.

message 293: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 09, 2012 01:53PM) (new)

Hmmm, there was a Startrek where Kirk,McCoy, Spock, and a couple of the Red Shirts (I guess the disposable actors had red shirts) were transported into Tombstone as the Earps and Doc Holiday, where they went up against the Cowboys (the Clanton's and the gang) - I'm surprised you didn't see that episode as it was a classic.

Whoops! Kirk and the Gang played the Clanton's et al, and they were up against the Earps and Holiday. Man, can't keep my old time TV straight anymore!

Wait, are you saying there's an episode where maybe Kirk didn't get laid?? *gobsmacked*

message 296: by [deleted user] (new)

In this episode he's lucky he didn't get back-doored; the Earp gang was pretty mean.

Oh, and the movie Tombstone with Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer was great. Not real factual, but a great watch. I've seen it so many times the wife won't let me watch it anymore if she's home; she's tired of even hearing the movie! LOL!

message 299: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments I don't think I've seen Tombstone, cos I'm not a big movie watcher, though it sounds vaguely familiar. I didn't think it was a Western, I must admit.

Maggie, I love that first picture. The second one looks a bit dull and overcast and reminds me of home LMAO!

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments I love desert scenery. It just seems so gorgeous and calm. I'd want to go for a few days and bring my paints! I'm from New Jersey, and I have to say, I love it. I live out in an area that used to be farms, not too far from Jockey Hollow- where George Washington spent a winter. There are lots of awesome historical sights. I live in the woods, but I'm not too far away from the beach or the mountains. It's lovely and peaceful and quiet. Which I admit, is the polar opposite of what most people imagine NJ to be but I promise it's true! I have photos of my backyard to back it up ;)
