Yeah, I liked it a lot. I was slightly confused at the end when Eugenie went into the Underworld after Kiyo's spirit, and she did the deal with Persephone to save him. I'd kinda thought she wasn't supposed to see him anymore, in order to save his life, but I guess I got that wrong?I also thought it revealing that she is getting a taste for the power she has, and wanting more and more of it. I think Dorian is counting on this, and will try to use this to get her to do what he wants.
I'm going to read something else just now, then I'll probably start the second book in a few days.

Right! Thanks for that. I did remember that part, but I suppose I didn't really think that it let her off the hook. Oh well. I guess Kiyo's got to be available for the next book!

Yeah, Kiyo was very selfish. Dorian was selfish, but I think he changed over time . . . Ad if you think about it, it would hurt Dorian's ego if she didn't come . . .lol I guess an ego like that helps sometimes ;)
I think Dorian is selfish, but he's on her side. That is to say, he's not out for a Great Cause and he'll take advantage of what he can, but he sincerely tries to make Eugenie strong and happy. He forgives her quite a bit and he'd probably do anything for her children no matter who the father might be.

I also noticed through my rereads, that she writes kind of elementary. I think she writes such good YA books, her writing style doesn't change over to adult books. Am I the only one that noticed that?

I haven't read any of the YA stuff, but she does have a basic writing style. Maybe the only difference between YA and adult is lots of gratuitous sex.

along with the inconsistency of the prophecy, I think there was an accidental name change in book 3 or 4 where she was talking about a specific character but called them by a different name. cant remember which one though. and i think she referred to the "grandson" before Eug was pregos by the name of Damien, I have no idea why.
Susie Kiyo's daughter, Luisa originally, and then like Margaret or Marie or something . . . weird.

I've read the first three chapters.
The present for Maiwenn's baby was cute. The donation and the teddy bear was a great idea.
But one thing annoyed the hell out of me. Eugenie is in a relationship with Kiyo and says she loves him but Dorian only has to say two sentences and she wants to fu** with him?!?! She also is jealous because of him and Ysabel? Really?!?! She is a slut!!! Poor Kiyo deserves better than a girlfriend who wants to sleep with another guy!

The bad.
Eugenie is one of the dumbest and most annoying characters I've ever read about. The worst is that she is a dumb slut. She claims she loves Kiyo and how important he is and then kisses and later sleeps with Dorian. WTF?!?! How anyone can root for her is beyond me!
She also never sticks her (internal) plans. She never wanted to let Dorian kiss her again... See what happened in this book! She didn't want to use her power to kill others. Yet she did and choked a guy.
Eugenie is also an ungrateful bitch. She blames Kiyo for not killing Leith. Well, he wanted to prevent a war, you dumb cow! A war which will cause hundreds to suffer! Sure, an imprisonment would most likely cause trouble as well. But it would have been better than bindly run into a conflict.
She is also behaving like a child. Kiyo's ex is pregnant from him and of course he takes care of her and visits her like any decent guy would instead of running away and leaving the woman alone. But Eugenie is too stupid to understand that. Celf-centered bitch that she is.
The aftermath of the rape. Why do PNR/UF authors do that? The heroine gets raped but as if nothing happened a few days or weeks later shespreads her legs for the next guy. Of course, this is the case with dumb whore Eugenie as well. No one apart from her mother is allowed to touch her, not her father and not even her boyfriend!!! But the moment Dorian shows up, she lets him take her hard! Yeah, sure. Looks like rape isn't that horrible! Urgh!!!
The sudden feelings Eugenie has for Dorian come out of nowhere. In the beginning she says how she was with Kiyo the last three months, everything great and then - suddenly - she talks about how she loves Dorian as well? How she could not forget their night together? When? Why? How? Sorry but there is absolutely no connection at all between them and I guess MR knows that as well. Otherwise I can't explain weird scenes like when Eugenie talks about how the peasants might see her and Dorian as some Hollywood couple. Uhm, I don't think so.

I also think RM doesn't have the skill to put real depth to her stories. Eugenie's conflict of being stuck between two worlds, the rape and its consequences... I don't feel it at all.
The good.
The side characters are awesome and I like all of them. Shaya, Rurik, Nia, Tim, Wil but the best of all is Volusian. Next to Kiyo he's my fave character. I just wish he'll be able to kill Eugenie in the end.
Kiyo. From comments I gather he'll make something stupid in the next book(s) but he hasn't done so far. He is sweet, concerned about Eugenie (who does not deserve that) and is hot!
As horrible as it was, I liked the storyline with the missing girls. Reminded me of RL where unfortunately these things still happen. I'm glad they could defeat Art and Abigail. I wonder if the little girls will show up again. I like them.

It's not so much the decision that pissed me off so much. It's just that it just ends there with no follow up that pissed me off. I understand why she made the decision, I just hate that it ends like that.
