I am nearly done with the third book. I have to say that, unequivocally, Eugenie is the dumbest individual ever conceived by a person. I'm at the point where I hope Volusian breaks her bond and makes her scream in pain and horror for an eternity! Even that would not be justice....

@Sarah I can understand being pissed at Eugenie for sleeping with Dorian under those circumstances. Really, it wasn't fair to anyone for her to do things that way, but I doubt Dorian minded that she was using him, because she was.@Missdevora Jasmine does come off that way, doesn't she? Even with her being only 16, she makes herself really hard to care about and she was quite the little psycho bitch.
Duane wrote: " I have to say that, unequivocally, Eugenie is the dumbest individual ever conceived by a person..."Oh dear! What did she do to deserve that one?? LOL

Well, you know I'm not a fan of HEAs so it's not really about Kiyo versus Dorian for me. As for the keeping things... So far I think there is only one big thing he kept from her and that was that Maiwenn is pregnant. Eugenie goes on how hard it is, how she thinks of Kiyo because she likes (loves) him yada yada yada. Yet she still jumps into the sack with Dorian in the blink of an eye? That's not a likeable character trait in my opinion.
I wonder when she's going to tell Kiyo that she slept with Dorian.
Missdevora wrote: "What do you think about the journey Eugenie made after Kiyo? Especially the vision in front of the army?"
I thought all this were visions of things she feared like having that heir and starting an invasion against the humen realm. I just hope she knows how to use contraception. But oh well, she already slept with both guys not using a condom. I know the pill is relatively save but if I were her, I'd carry a stack of condoms around all the time. LOL

I finished the first book and really liked it. As I mentioned here there are a few things that bug me. But all in all, it is a great read.
Btw, I love how we (re)read the series together. It's lots of fun!

@ Sarah - LOL I hear you on the HEA's...Thougg for me, it wasn't so much for the HEA, but rather the : you're full of shit now get out...LOL
The one part that bugges me quite a bit was the whole "loving" Kiyo - she barely knows him! And I'm so not a fan of the whole love at first sight crap! :D
I rooted for Dorian simply because he made no excuses for himself - he's self serving, manipulative and bossy - and he has no problem with it... whereas Kiyo - well you've seen my thoughts there.... :D
Well. I think that keeping the fact that your ex is knocked up is more than a little issue - why would you suppose he wouldn't then knock you up and move on to greener pastures. From my view point, Kiyo just wants nookie, and he wants it when he wants it. If he doesn't get it he pouts. In fact, Eugenie made the comment (in book two, I think) that Kiyo doesn't even do foreplay - just jumps in and knocks the bottom out of that thing. He agrees by wondering why you need foreplay.
The bottom line is ALL of the characters are shallow and untrustworthy, excepting Volusian, who just wants to kill Eugenie. I pray he gets his wish.

Oh, poor Kiyo. You're so mean to him. LOL

I so feel you on this. I hate it when they see each other and know they are meant to be together forever. *barf*
Duane wrote: "Well. I think that keeping the fact that your ex is knocked up is more than a little issue - why would you suppose he wouldn't then knock you up and move on to greener pastures."
I agree that this should make you wonder. But since you are not a fan of Eugenie at the moment, maybe this only shows how stupid she is.
I don't know if Kiyo will ever find out she slept with Dorian (I guess he will for the drama). But if I were him, I then would wonder if everytime there is a problem, Eugenie runs off to sleep with another guy.
Duane wrote: "He agrees by wondering why you need foreplay."
If I could have rough sex with Kiyo, I wouldn't want foreplay. ;-)

@Sarah *high fives*@Jax and Tangled You guys pretty much summed up how I felt by the end. I never understood that particular decision. And the way she treats Dorian after all of that never sat well with me.
Duane wrote: "Well. I think that keeping the fact that your ex is knocked up is more than a little issue - why would you suppose he wouldn't then knock you up and move on to greener pastures. From my view point,..."Duane I agree that keeping something like a having gotten another woman pregnant just before entering a new relationship is a huge deal--especially if the guy is still working for the baby momma and seems to owe her great loyalty regardless of any question of romantic love. So many questions a girl might ask our oh so perfect man who appears as if a ready made boyfriend and keeper. Oh so lovable--like Satan in a Sunday hat (to borrow a phrase from True Blood).
Volusian is honest and if she's into angry sex, I'm sure there would be passion.
I am currently on book 4, and I am wondering if I will manage to complete the series. I think the stupidity of the characters are starting to rub off on me. With each turn of the page, I feel my IQ heading towards my shoe size. :-)
I guess there needs to be conflict in order for the story to be taken halfway seriously, but someone in the book has to have a set of balls besides the demon.
@Tangled - I bet Volusian would give her a good licking before throwing her down in the bushes; she'd then have the best of both worlds.

LOL Duane, you vehemently hate this series! I think Eugenie is pretty immature at the beginning but I think by the time (view spoiler) she makes mature decisions. I may not agree with them all, but I think they are made from a responsible place.
I just got to the line that made me love Dorian in the first book:“I will, however, make you a deal. We will postpone our arrangement until you’re ready. In exchange for this grace period, I add the further caveat that we won’t go to Aeson until you’ve made some suitable progress with your magic.”
I don't think Eugenie even realized how he was making all these concessions for her. For her safety and pleasure. I realized at this point that the difference between Kiyo and Dorian was selfishness. Kiyo acts all self-righteous, but he's really pretty self serving, whereas Dorian acts self-serving, but he's quite generous.
Duane wrote: "@Sarah - Rough sex without foreplay? Please, tell me it ain't so! An hour or so warmup could only help the outcome. LOL!"
I don't see the problem with this. But of course Dorian could have his way with me as well. LOL

@Zeenat - actually I kind of like the series - it's fun to read. I'm just astounded that this crew manages to get anything done with all the self-righteousness and crass stupidity that is going on between the major players. I've finished series that I didn't like at all; this one I've rated pretty highly as far as action and content go. I've never expected I would like every character in every book, and this series is no exception.

I guess I'm very people driven, so when I don't like the characters, I don't like the books. That's why I almost didn't read the hollows, cause I couldn't stand Ivy lol.

Hmm. I guess she's a bit less self centered in the last book, but I am not sure about mature. (view spoiler)

I think maturity comes from why you make a decision, not necessarily what decision you make. (view spoiler) She wasn't doing it out of anger or petulance, and she wasn't doing it to hurt anyone.
I'm about halfway through Book 4 and, to be truthful, I'm finding it kind of hard to put down. Go figure!
I have finished book 4. Aside from one major omission on the part of Eugenie, and a couple of loose ends that should have been severely dealt with, I was quite pleased with the outcome. Life is good.
I want to add that as annoyed as I was with Eugenie at the end of the last book, I really liked the series. :)
I'm done with the 3rd book and I boy am I relived I don't have to wait months to see what will happen. That was no way to end a book. Well books, R.M. sure likes cliffhangers.Eugenie seems to be dumber the pages I turn, hopefully there are others that first I didn't like so much and now that I know a bit more about them I appreciate them.
Correct me if I am wrong.1. Mead left a lot of unresolved things when she ended the Georgina Kincaid series(most of them revolving around Kayla the psychic and her family)-no spin-off series announced, but who knows?
2. She left plenty of things unresolved in Vampire Academy-and then, BAM we got Bloodlines, the spin-off series
3. She ended the Eugenie Markham series with the worst cliffhanger ever-(view spoiler) So shoot me if I think I am right in saying that she wants to write a spin-off series for this one too.
I can understand the concept though. Why imagine a new universe and characters when you already have them?
Anyway, I liked Bloodlines much more than I thought I would, it wasn't so bad. And Sydney is made the ultimate good character, you'd have to be heartless not to like her.
I finished up this series a few weeks ago. I have to agree with a lot of you, I wasn't happy with the ending of the last book.
You are fast, Duane. I've only finished the first book.
Btw, blonde moment here... Jasmine and Eugenie have only the same father, right? Was Jasmine the result of him going to the human world and rape a woman? I'm a bit confused.

@Sarah - I took speed reading when I was in the 5th grade. If I really get going I can read upwards of 1200 words per minute with over 80% comprehension. It's a blessing, and a curse. It's a blessing as I can get through my reading quickly if I so choose. It's a curse as I run out of things to read and end up re-reading; not that that's all bad - some things are meant to be read over and over. ;-)
As far a Jasmine, yes she and Eugenie had the same father. Since Wil knew his mother, I assumed the mother was not Euginie's - Eugenie's mother seemed to care too much about the girl to let her go, so I think had she been Jasmines mother she would have kept her, too. Plus, with 10 years difference between Eugenie and Jasmine, I think Eugenie would have known of another birth in the family. I don't remember reading that rape was ever discussed in regards to Jasmine's mother, but since it was a trademark of Tirigan, I would imagine that rape is not out of the question.

Thanks, Duane. That's how I understood it as well but wanted to be sure.
Wow, the speedreading sounds awesome. I don't think I could ever run out of reading material. Imagine all the non-fiction books you can read and several newspapers a day. How cool!
Btw, I bet my grandmother that already in the next book Eugenie will have forgotten her "You will never kiss me again!" to Dorian.

Sarah, I can't give away what Eugenie does or does not do as it would spoil everything. For the most part, the series was good. I didn't like the complete ending as I felt she got tired of writing and just quit, but I guess I don't need to.
Speed reading good, but it's more enjoyable to sit down and fondle a book than to just blast right through it. I try to milk reading a book over the course of a day or a day and a half. I refuse to read newspapers or magazines because they are, in my opinion, little more than trash anymore. I do, however, reads scads of non-fiction works - "those who fail to learn history are doomed to repeat it" or some such.
Actually read a book,
- not only was she beautiful and a great actress, but she was a genius to boot - her inventions helped with the war. And, since my grandmother came over from the Ukraine, I had to read
and
. All great books.
Also, we can't forget
- Whoops - how did that get in there! Brahahaha!

Jasmine's mother wasn't raped, she had an affair with the storm king. I don't remember where or when it was mentioned . . . but it was mentioned.
As for the ending of the series, The fact that it was a cliffhanger bothered me, ESPECIALLY since she said she had no plans for a spin-off.But, the actual decision didn't bother me as much as it seemed to bother everyone else, and I think I'm the only one LOL
(view spoiler)
It was a tough decision overall . . .
@Zeenat - I agree with you 100% - she made bad decisions on the ending all around.
Oh, right. The cliff hangers. Don't even get me started on how much I hate cliff hangers. I wish she didn't tell stories I like so much, because the "open ending" thing never sits well with me. Still, she's the one with talent, and I'm the one complaining about books I liked. :)
They were really good books. I don't know why the georgina kincaid books were popular, I didn't really like them much at all, and hated how it ended. (I would read a carter or roman spin-off though lol). But I really enjoyed the world and characters she created in the dark swan books. I would love to see a jasmine spin-off. I would even read it even if it was a YA (and I rarely read YA books)
LOL, Duane!Speaking of sex. I'm on book 3. I have found the sex in this one "kinkier" than that 50 shades BS. Or maybe 50 shades was just *that* poorly written.
I find the sex scenes in this series to be less kinky than the ones in Kushiel's Dart (a book the Vaginal Fantasy group is reading). Dorian didn't come off as "rapey", just a little spicy. I can't read 50 shades of Grey, but it's not because I find it too kinky. I agree with Maggie about the writing style--not my thing.
Zeenat wrote: "I don't know why the georgina kincaid books were popular, I didn't really like them much at all..."I barely got through Succubus Blues! I strongly disliked that book.
I've read Storm Born and Thorn Queen, I really enjoyed them both
I've only read the first book and the sex scenes weren't bad. Not as hot a some others (Wicked Ties!!!) but still good.
I did rather enjoy the scene when she had sex with Dorian!! I'm way behind everyone as I still haven't finished the first book, but I should hopefully finish tonight.
Zeenat wrote: "But, the actual decision didn't bother me as much as it seemed to bother everyone else, and I think I'm the only one LOL "You're not alone - I felt the same way... :D

I guess not many are up for rough, animal sex with Kiyo. LOL
But don't stress yourself, Lannister. Take your time and then we can talk about book one some more.

they both have rough sex! dorian's is more refined, practiced bdsm, Kiyo is just about throwing you around. lol If you are easy to orgasm, which Eugenie is, it makes sense. But most woman would be like, ummmm warm up? lol Dorian knows how to warm you up! lol
