L Fancy watching a film that makes you laugh out loud?! From the classic golden oldies to the more modern mainstreem films, this discussion is all about those films that had you crying on the floor...

I thought that we should start with a classic, being the genius that is Mr. Bean and the actor of Rowan Atkinson who has put a smile on peoples faces for generations.

From the old classic Mr. Bean to Mr. Beans holiday, one cannot help but love his whitty & often extremely dimwitted character who gets into all kinds of scrapes.
There is then other roles such as Johnny English (the detective with a twist!) and the memorable 'Blackadder' series...

Which is your favourite...Blackadder or Baldrick?!

message 2: by Julie (new)

Julie Rainey I watched this ages ago. Kind of funny but I don't remember much about it.

Michael Cargill Cargill (michaelcargill) Mr Bean was fantastic at first.

I think the first Ace Ventura film is the most I have laughed at a comedy, it had me in fits of laughter.

message 4: by Julie (new)

Julie Rainey Ace Ventura was pretty funny. It was at the height of Jim Carrey's career which has since taken a nose dive.

message 5: by L (new)

L Favourite comedy actors would have to include (as well as Rowan Atkinson);

Ben Stiller...i loved him in the 'night at the museum' films and found them to be so funny,

Dawn French...in the television series 'Vicar of Dibley' where she played the most hillarious character,

Joanna Lumley in 'Apsolutely Fabulous' and old time commedy that was once very popular,

...

L I love Blackadder and how each time zone is so indavidually funny; from the time of Qeeny to the tudors!x

L Sing along!

The sound of hoof beats 'cross the glade
Good folk, lock up your son and daughter
Beware the deadly flashing blade
Unless you want to end up shorter
Black Adder, Black Adder, he rides a pitch black steed
Black Adder, Black Adder, he's very bad indeed
Black: his gloves of finest mole
Black: his codpiece made of metal
His horse is blacker than a hole
His pot is blacker than his kettle
Black Adder, Black Adder, with many a cunning plan
Black Adder, Black Adder, you horrid little man!

Favourite quotes;

"I think I'll write my tombstone - Here lies Edmund Blackadder, and he's bloody annoyed."

"You've taken a vow of silence, how fascinating. Tell me about it."

"Baldric, you have the intellectual capacity of a dirty potato."

L Who loves Miranda?? She is just so amazing...

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

BBC 1 drama sitcom with Miranda Hart playing...Miranda!

message 11: by Aurora (new)

Aurora I absolutely LOVED and still LOVE Shanghai Noon and Shanghai Knights.
Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson make a HILarious combination. The idea of putting Jackie's chinese formality into a Western setting was amazing.
Mixing action, adventure and comedy into one means 10/10 from me.

And the Rush Hour movies, involving Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan, were also awesome movies. Spy, adventure, action, comedy, 10/10!!!
I love how Jackie Chan's characters are always paired with someone of a completely opposite personality and that changes both characters for the better.

L who is your favourite comedian??

I will begin by saying that mine would have to be Micheal Mcintyre! All he has to do is run on stage shaking his hair and i am on the floor in fits of giggles...

Terri (terrilovescrows) | 33 comments Lucinda - I absolutely LOVE Black Adder!

message 27: by L (new)

L I am a huge fan of Rowan Atkinson. I loved watching the four Blackadder sections; with him as the stupid guy, the wealthy edwardian, the tudors and of course world war one. He is just so funny, and i remember watching the films (quite a while ago) and laughing constantly throughout. Series one was and is still my favorite.

message 28: by Terri (new)

Terri (terrilovescrows) | 33 comments Two is mine Lucinda. But I still love them all. What I would Love to see is a spoof on Doctor Who he did years back - its out of print.

message 29: by L (new)

L I just love the theme tune...

His pot is blacker than his kettle
Black Adder, Black Adder, with many a cunning plan

...i could sing it all day long *laughing* x

You guys should all watch the great comedian of all times: Norman Wisdom.
His little comedy films are old, black and white and some of them in colour. His great 'A stitch in time' is the funniest of all. There are about 15-20 of these funny series. You can find them on youtube, or download them from bittorrent.
Here is a link to a funny scene from 'a stitch in time'.
Enjoy!

L Norman Wisdom is a legend! I also love the two ronnies (Ronnie Corbet and Ronnie Barker - does "four candles" spring to mind?!) and Charlie Chaplain. He was so funny! It just shows that one does not need words to make you laugh.
