Charlotte (daytripperdiva) | 2 comments Heading to Tanzania in January would like to read more fiction and good nonfiction from the region.

Val Abdulrazak Gurnah comes from Tanzania and features in both African lists, goodreads and African history. The one I am reading at the moment, Paradise, is excellent and made the Booker short list, but would not make me want to visit the region.
There is A Grain of Wheat and others by the same author from Kenya.
Alexander McCall Smith's series " No1 Ladies Detective Agency" set in Botswana.
The one I would recommend though is Nervous Conditions, which is a coming of age story set in Zimbabwe, which is roughly in the right region.
There is also a good book about the Serengeti National Park, which I read many years ago and can't remember the title. If I do remember, or find the book, I will let you know.
