Another one of those women I've been avoiding all my life. You are really determined to stretch my boundaries! Thanks.

So, I've been reading my way through Sylvia Plath, a poem here, a poem there. I'm hindered by the fact that poetry and I have never developed a close relationship, but I'm persevering.

Taylor (seffietay) I love her writing style. It's simultaneously morbid and elegant.

Take "The Manor Garden." I love the imagery of the garden: "the roses over. Incense of death." Or, "The pears fatten like little buddhas." Or, "A blue mist is dragging the lake." But who is "you?" Death? History? The house? The garden? And what is the "difficult borning?"

On the other hand I really enjoyed "Point Shirley." But perhaps I've spent enough time in close proximity to the sea and watched it eat up enough land that I could understand it on a more subconscious level.
