Women Who Love Books Too Much discussion
2007 Book Count

newest »

This year so far I have read 83 books. My goal is to make it to 100 by Dec. 31st~! As for my goal for 2008 I want to read a genre I've never invested time in like: adventure books, suspense, maybe pic a topic I haven't read up much on that interests me..............going out of my comfort zone would be nice.
How do you know how many books you have read? I love this idea. I have never kept count, I just want to always be reading, and it must be compelling, it's gotta be.
How do you go about keeping track, and how do you decide the number for a gal for the year?
I want to make goals for 2008.
ALSO wanna share your lists and your favorites or least favorites?

OH!!! oh crap now i have to add dates that I read each book. this requires actual memory. oh well I will do my best. this is actually GREAT!! we should all keep an ongoing topic of books we read in 2008 and tell our critiques of each book. You know? For instance, I would have my own topic (which others can ALWAYS comment on, yes?) for 2008 what i read. and then if i recommend it or not. then the next book.
Is this clear as mud? Good thing I am not myself a writer, I guess.
Though I would LOVE to be.

Thanks also for the technical instruction @ counting from the "read list" I am with Cathy about adding dates to everything. Will put it on the list.
Hey Cathy,
Not to sound overly nerdy, but I email a list of a book I read after I've completed it. I put the title, author, and how many pages it is and then number it straight down then email that to myself so I always have a tally.
If you'd be interested I'd be happy to share with you the list of books I've read so far this year:)

That is a GREAT idea for keeping up with the tally. i am REALLY old (over 200) and would have to, of course, make a paper copy of my book emails and attach it somewhere like a journal or something.
SURE share your books!!! I love other people's lists. It tells so much about a person.
THANKS FOR THE IDEA!!!

i forgot to say this:
Aren't nerds fabulous?? It is wonderful if you sound like a nerd.
It's like insanity. It becomes one of those desirable characteristics once you accept it in yourself.

I love that you have a number goal for your books. i hope i read at least that many too, but know that I probably won't. Don't get me wrong -- i am an avid and passionate reader, just not an overly FAST reader. My husband and daughter can knock out a good book (i.e., the harry potter books) overnight. it takes me several weeks, but i can't stay up all night and read like them.
but i refuse to make a number for the year because already my contrary nature is rising up in protest against any number I might say.

Nicole, it sounded like i was disagreeing with your stated goal of 100 books for 2008. I DON'T!!
I think that it is MARVELOUS. I looked at your profile and am interested in what you think of the books you are reading: Love in the Time of Cholera and Mother. I have planned to read Love in the Time of Cholera for a while; and any book about mothers are interesting to me.
Actually i have a wonderful mother, but of course, she is totally insane. I do love her. but a mother/daughter relationship -- well it is VERY important and VERY well, ummmmm dynamic. i guess ...
ANYWAY now i am reading ALMOST MOON by Alice Sebold. I LOVED LOVELY BONES by her, though i did think it got a big preposterous at the end. I also read LUCKY and it was a great read. But Almost Moon is about an older woman (read: my age) (i.e., 117) who suffocates her mother. WOW!!! TALK ABOUT A KICK IN THE KIDNEYS!!! it is really quite fascinating. i am basically hooked. Having said that, I really really really DO NOT fantasize about suffocating my mother!!!! I LOVE HER!!

5" high by about 3.5" wide. It's cover is hard and has a picture of a book shelf full of books, front and back. The pages inside are lined. I've seen other ones that are bigger and have lots and have specific lines to fill out and an area for comments. I choose the one I have b/c I felt that if I start putting in comments I'd feel as if I were writing a book report.
Beth
Well since it's the last day of 2007 so far I've read 89 books. I am hoping to squeak in another before tomorrow morning:)
I love Beth's idea of a journal -- I have to try that in 2008.
And yay for Heather squeaking in another book!!
Is it cheating if I read a child's book?? I just got a kind of longish book by Audrey Wood (long for her) Moonflute, copyright 1986, never heard of it even though I am an Audrey Wood fan. Also I found Amphigorey by Edward Gorey. Looks doable today.
They both caught my eye and wouldn't let go at our wonderful used book store. Also Mechanimals by Chris Tougas. It disturbs me that I always go to the children's section ...

I only started in 2005 to actually keep a list of the books I read. I keep the list by year. I list the title, author and how many pages. The only reason I started listing how many pages was because I was involved in an online pages read challenge. I do wish that I had started many years ago to keep track of what I have read.
I keep track of the books I've read in a Word document and also list them on my blog under "Recent Reads" and "Currently Reading". At the beginning of the new year I remove all the "Recent Reads" and start a new list.
I have read 17 books this year, not counting the one I am currently reading and have not yet finished. I always want to read more than I do but cannot always find the time or manage to keep my eyes open at night when I would be able to read for longer periods of time.
So many books, so little time!
So far I have read 20 books this year. I'm hoping to get 1-2 more books read before the end of the year. My reading goal for 2008 is to read more books than I did this year.
