MAJK and I are both in Gainesville, Fl and looking for more Floridians to meet up with! Let us know where you are. I think a meet up with people from Orlando, Jax, or Tampa could work as well. That would involve some travel, but we can discuss!

So, I talked with a local friend of mine. Although she doesn't keep up with the online hangouts that if we started up a book club local chapter, she'd totally be game. So that brings us up to four, which I think is a decent small group size. Would be great to get at least a few more but I think four is reasonable to meet up with. What do you all think?
:-) I sent her the goodreads link to the group/this month's read/ the alternate read. A friend of mine from SoFl is sending me Kushiel's Dart, so I haven't had a chance to read it yet either. This is exciting!
I have a few of my friends at least 2 that would be in for a book club of this kind I sent them the VFH links as well so we may be at 6-7 possibly 8 depending on one friend I have who needs to answer*~MAJK~*

Hey guys! I don't know if you have seen the thread of a east coast timezone g+ hangout (I've linked it below), but I thought this could be a good first meet up. I think trying to get a local thing planned for this month is a little too soon. How about we try to plan a get together after the next book is announced?
I agree...I am in school FT and trying to find a PT job and I have no disposable income right now. Anyone know of a PT job? :P
I'm in school FT as well. I don't know of a PT job, but I'll let you know if I hear of something.I think we can make our get together low/no cost. Shouldn't be too difficult.

MAJK, what kind of technical skills? I've done phone support for Cox Comm for their services and website support for Citicards...
Have you checked to see if UF help desk is hiring? Any type of support or design - usually support and design job are PT and pay decent - that is why I was asking.Hubby works down at HSC - when I talk to him tomorrow I'll see what he knows - I'm out of G'ville at the moment.

@Candy you found us! For some reason I didn't get the notification. YAY!Not sure if I get this Orlampa.......I mean Orlando and Tampa are a decent distance apart.
Anyhow, we were thinking of setting something up for next month.
I live in Lakeland, and Polk County in general has a tendency to make fun of itself, stating we're the greater Orlampa area, since one day it's just going to be one big city. I'm less than an hour from either city and work in Orlando (yay theme parks).
I'm living in Lakeland. Although I do get to Tampa and Orlando often enough. I'm not dealing with school for the Summer so I'm free pretty much whenever until USF starts back up again.
I live in Orlando as well if you all get together!
And I am stuck in Gville Mon-Fri cause I have classes every weekday up till November, except for my summer break, which is 7/28-8/12...
Okay! Yay more interest! It sounds like meeting in a middle-ground area would be preferable, maybe people from close area could car pool for whenever we set up an event. So far we have,

I get digests since I regularly forget to set aside time for hangouts, but I'm in Gainesville too.
Welcome Marilou! Maybe be should start brainstorming some locale where we could meet up. It would probably be best to keep it in an in between area. I also time preferably somewhere with public access. I don't know but maybe some public libraries have "study" rooms. Any suggestions?
Looking at a map, Ocala is fairly central, as is The Villages, but that place is a freaking labyrinth! I got lost in there looking for a restaurant once.
I'm in Gainesville, too! Grad school leaves my schedule pretty open, but something in/close to Gainesville would be preferable since there's not a huge amount in my budget for gas.
Oh this would be wonderful! I'm so excited! I live in Zephyrhills (Just NE of Tampa). I'm a recent graduate and between-jobs right now, so my disposable income is limited too ;p
Ocala is probably easiest for all. Maybe some of us Gainesville Folks can carpool to ease the gas burdenjust some thoughts

Ocala works for me! Local coffee shop or library? Just got this months main book and it looks like a light read so we should have no problem having our own group meet up before the official one at the end of July. Yay!

I would just feel bad about lounging at a coffee shop with a largeish group for an indeterminate amount of time (even if we are patrons).
The headquarters of the Marion County Library system is in Ocala. There is also a few more in Ocala it seems.

We just need to pick a date/time and an alternate date/time. There is also a way to request a recurring meeting, but we could wait to make a decision on that later.

Carpools are a great idea. I'm willing to pick up & drop off people from Lakeland and/or Orlando (or close enough to those locations). My car has 5 seats so that's my limit but sounds good to me for Ocala.
Ocala sounds good...definitely coffee shop somewhere...although a coffee shop in a book store would be golden! ^_^

Actually, if you let said book store know that a book club wanted to hang out in their coffee shop, most of the time they work to accommodate the group...I had a group that hung out at a book store on a regular basis...

or book store with a cafe?I'm just not sure how a Starbucks or Barnes & noble type store wood respond. I've never hung out in either corporate or local book stores or coffee shops for longer than 15/20 mins.

Also, Sundays generally work better for me, since I work Saturdays, however I have a lot of derby games on Sundays so you guys basically plan away and I will just let you know if I can make it.

Also, I talked with a friends originally from the Ocalaish area. Her mom and her really liked this cafe and tea house a little south of Ocala. It's called Polly's Pantry. I haven't been to any but they all look good. How about meeting the Sunday before that Monday that they record the google hangout? I'd happily chip in for gas, too!

Oh my goodness, I don't know if I can remember, lol! I THINK so. I remember there being booths and some tables. I think the tables were in the center so they would probably let us put a few together maybe.
July 29th sounds okay to me (I don't have any plans made yet)! Also, I'm in Zephyrhills, but it would be incredible if I was able to drive to the Lakeland area and hitch a ride with someone :)) I can definitely pitch in for gas!
