I'm Olivia, reading is my favourite hobby and I like to spend much of my time doing just that, reading.

I'm from England, where it's surprisingly sunny at the moment.

Feel free to add me as a friend to discuss books more in-depth.

I'm very gutted I didn't find this group earlier because two of your buddy reads this month have been on my to-read list for a long time and I may have actually gotten around to reading them if I'd have joined sooner. How unfortunate. However I look forward to future reads!

If you're referring to The Book Thief here, I would highly, highly recommend reading it! I was quite impressed with it and I know a lot of the others who were involved in the buddy read also loved it.

Yes, that and Percy Jackson. I've had The Book Thief on 'loan' from my friend for about 3 years now, I don't think he's noticed, but I think it's about time I get it read and give it back.

I've heard some very positive feedback, unlike my friend who told me he couldn't be bothered because it was too long.

I think I shall definitely have to pick it up now!

message 4: by Nathan (new)

Nathan (nthnlwly) It is a long book, but certainly not a long read. I finished in about 4 days I think.

message 5: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3978 comments Welcome, Olivia! The Book Thief goes much faster than you would expect. Even though the month's over, you should read it anyway! I'd be happy to discuss it with you.

message 6: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (cnicole322) | 86 comments Hello! I'm Chelsea. I'm new to Goodreads as well as this group. Now that I'm out of college, I'm going to get all caught up on my reading, which I have been looking forward to doing for 4 years, ha!

message 7: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3978 comments Welcome, Chelsea! What kinds of books do you like to read?

message 8: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (cnicole322) | 86 comments I usually read American lit, like Steinbeck and Kesey. But this summer i'm going to try to branch out into british and Russian literature. And I have my bachelors in economics :)

message 9: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3978 comments We were just talking about Steinbeck! :) Toni and I both loves Steinbeck as well. Maybe we can do a Steinbeck book as one of our July buddy reads--one that none of us have read.

For Russian lit, I think my favorite is probably The Master and Margarita. If you wanted to join in with our Listopia challenge (which is one of my favorites), you could always use these Russian lit and British lit lists. :)

I also have a degree in econ! It had been a super fun major. My favorite class was game theory.

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Thank you!

I'd love to discuss the book when I eventually get around to reading it. I will definitely be reading it, just when I find a spare moment.

message 11: by Chelsea (last edited May 31, 2012 12:32PM) (new)

Chelsea (cnicole322) | 86 comments Oh, how exciting! I have a lot of steinbeck at home I still need to read. And game theory was interesting but man... It really gave me a hard time! My favorite was history of economic doctrine. We read parts ofThe Wealth of Nations, The Communist Manifesto, The General Theory of Employment, Interest, and Money, etc. It was a good class. But yeah, I'll have to check out these lists, I'm still not quite sure how they work.

message 12: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3978 comments That sounds like a cool class--we didn't have anything like it. I was, however, a philosophy major too, so I got a bit of Marx there.

I'm going to jump this Steinbeck discussion to the Buddy Read thread, so feel free to jump in over there.

Chelsea (cnicole322) | 86 comments Hey guys,i was wondering.... Is this a group where we set a number of books we want to read for 2012 and report back what we read, or we read books on that list? Like, I noticed the book thief was up and that's the one everyone is talking about. Is that what you're supposed to be reading right now?

Thanks, sorry i'm such a newb :)

also, excuse my punctuation/capitalization. I'm typing on my phone.

message 15: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (cnicole322) | 86 comments Oh, ok. There was just quite a bit going on. Thank you for clarifying :)

message 16: by Gina (new)

Gina Hi everyone! My name is Gina and I am in some other groups with some of you (Sara, Barb). I live in Cincinnati, OH and I am currently a stay at home mommy but I am a certified 1-8 Reading/Language Arts teacher that I hope to go back to someday. I read all types of books. My favorite genre is mystery/thriller or contemporary fiction. I am just starting to dip my toes into fantasy which I have just hated until reading The Hunger Games and a few other YA fantasy reads. I am a voracious reader. I usually can read a book a day but am usually working on 3-4 books at a time. I became addicted to challenge after joining the Crazy Challenge Connection and I keep seeing Sara's comments about this group come up on my home page. I held off as long as I could but am joining now to take part of the summer challenges and those coming up. I will probably not do the yearly challenges b/c I am doing similar ones in other groups but I will see if there are any that I could work on. I am excited to sign up for the June challenges and meeting everyone in the group.

message 17: by Barb (new)

Barb *waving hi to Gina* I think maybe we need a Reading Challenge Anonymous group :)

message 22: by Shelly (new)

Shelly Bretheim (shellybre) Hey, my name is Shelly and I am not that new to Goodreads, but I have recently discovered that I may be addicted to the groups. I love to read and since I run a in-home daycare, it is my escape away from the madness.

Kara (karaayako) | 3978 comments Welcome, Shelly! I completely understand what you mean when you say you may be addicted to groups--I feel the same way.

message 25: by Nathan (new)

Nathan (nthnlwly) Hi Gina and Shelly!!

message 26: by Gina (new)

Gina Thanks to everyone for such a warm welcome! I have already jumped in on the 2 June challenges and have created a "corner" to keep track of my books.

message 27: by Shelly (new)

Shelly Bretheim (shellybre) Thanks for all the welcomes! I have jumped in, like Gina, with the June challenges. Having fun so far

message 28: by Helen (new)

Helen (bookreader1211) | 3 comments Hi! I'm Helen. I've only been a member of Goodreads for about a month. This is the first group I've joined and this sounds like fun so yeah. Haha, um...don't really know what to say but uh...oh here. I just finished reading The Ask and the Answer which I rated 5 stars. So yeah, that's usually the kind of books I like...the whole dystopian science-fictiony kind of thing, but I'm really not picky about genres. I read pretty much about anything. Well...I'm beginning to ramble so um, yeah it's nice to meet you all and feel free to friend me! (:

message 29: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3978 comments Welcome, Helen! I love science fiction and dystopia too--we should definitely trade recommendations. :)

message 30: by Nathaly (new)

Nathaly | 356 comments Hi. My name is Nathaly (pronounced Natalie). I use to read a lot in high school but stopped after that. I recently got back into reading and can't stop.

I have set a modest gone for myself of 12 books this year.

So far, I have read A Thousand Spelendid Suns and Hard Rain. Currently I am reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

message 31: by Nathaly (new)

Nathaly | 356 comments I just started it. Hope I like it too :)

message 32: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3978 comments Welcome, Nathaly! I love your name. If you enjoyed A Thousand Splendid Suns, we're currently reading The Kite Runner, and you're more than welcome to join us. :)

message 33: by Georgina (new)

Georgina (georginathelibrarian) Hello! I'm Georgina, I'm 24, from the UK, and a Librarian.
I recently joined Goodreads to try and keep track of all the books I want to read and have only just discovered it has groups!
During my studies last year my reading dropped dramatically, but my bookshelves kept growing, so I have set myself the challenge of a book a week this year, and so far I am smashing that. I am also trying to blog about the books I read after I finish them, but so far I am reading too quickly to review them.
It appears that a few of my to be read books are appearing on your reading group lists, so hopefully you can help me knock some off there :)
Currently I am reading eight books, which is pretty normal for me, and I generally read most types of fiction and specialise in mysteries.
Right this second I am reading Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol, I thought I wouldn't like it but so far it's ok!

message 34: by Mary (new)

Mary Shimp (meemeeshimp) | 9 comments My name is Mary and an avid reader. My sister and i call ourselves book-aholics. I read a little of everything and have been looking for a group to join for years. I am currently reading the third book in the Game of Throne series, A Storm of Swords. Looking forward to participating with others as I have few friends to discuss books with.

message 35: by Shelly (new)

Shelly Bretheim (shellybre) Hey Mary, its nice to meet you! Game of Thrones is next on my list to read i have heard great things. Welcome to the group

message 36: by Georgina (new)

Georgina (georginathelibrarian) Hi Mary! I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the Game of Thrones series as it is the challenge I am going to take on next :)

message 37: by Karissa (new)

Karissa (diliapickle) | 63 comments Hello! My name is Karissa and I love to read :) My favorite part of the work day is my lunch break because it is an hour of reading! I just joined so a bit behind on the goal but feel I will be able to catch up.

I am currently reading the fifty shades series which is not my usually reading style but was trying to go outside the box a bit! Which this certainly is!

I noticed person ahead (Mary) is reading Game of Thrones and you will not be sorry! That was an amazing series!

message 38: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3978 comments Welcome, Georgina, Mary, and Karissa! It's so great to have you all in our group. :)

message 40: by Amanda Velasquez (new)

Amanda Velasquez | 5 comments Hello Group!

I'm Amanda. I just joined Goodreads yesterday. I'm loving the site. I got a Kindle in May and I am over whelmed with finding what to read next. This site has already helped me find a book I have been searching for since 2004, The Historian. When you say you are looking for a book about a girl, her dad and vampires, everyone thinks it's Twilight. :P

I live in Flint, MI. Recently named the FBI's most violent city in America for the 400th time. I'm not able to move right now and I think books help me escape me depressing surrounding. I'm not even sure why I'm telling this cuz I'm usually embarrassed and hide it.

I'm out of things to say now...

message 41: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3978 comments So many Michigan people in this group! :) I'm in Kalamazoo.

message 42: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (shelbysue) Hi Everyone, My name is Michelle and I just love to read!!! When I was younger I just hated it but it seems that when I had my son and I started to make him read for at least 30 minutes a day I felt that I needed to do the same to set an example. Well my son and I now both love to read! I found that I really like cozy mysteries but they are all starting to sound the same. Love Debbie Macomber, Sherryl Woods, Mary Higgins Clark, Mary Kay Andrews. I love to meet new people and talk about a good book. I have read 50 Shades of grey series and loved it I also read the Hunger Games and loved that as well. Thank you for having this awesome group

I also love Grand Rapids. I have a friend that just move to Holland. She is begging me to visit. I'm afraid if I do I'll never want to leave. lol

message 46: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (shelbysue) Kara, I have actually never read Agatha Christie, but she is on my list to read

message 47: by Naomi (new)

Naomi Terpening Hello! I'm Cap.
I read a lot, but unfortunately, much of it tends to be text books at this point. For the summer, I'm trying to read more enjoyable books while also keeping up with class requirements. This has proven to be a little difficult since I've neglected my required books quite a bit already. I joined the group to kind of encourage/force myself into achieving this goal. I might drop out of the group after the summer just because I get so busy, but who knows?
I don't really have any specific preferences in what I read, other than my obsession with Harry Potter. I still haven't read the Hunger Games though the entire series is sitting on my bookshelf. Lastly, I'm sick of vampires at the moment.
That's pretty much all I have to say about myself and my reading habits. I hope to enjoy being involved in this group, and I hope you like having me. (:

Meghan (My World of Books) (meghann23) | 122 comments Hi, I'm Meghan and I'll be 20 in less than a month. I'll be a junior in college and am a social work major. I used to read all the time when I was in middle and high school but in college it's been hard for me to find the time. I'm now trying to get back into it :)

message 49: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3978 comments Welcome both Cap and Meghan! We're looking forward to having you in our group. :)

message 50: by Nathaly (new)
