I started Royal Serf on October 19, 2008. It is a political thriller that uses many true events as background. Its plot-theme is:

A royal slave’s flight for independence, and an uncommon man’s struggle that his country’s Declaration of Independence might not perish from the Earth.

Royal Serf has a prologue and 15 chapters. Today (1/3/09), I finished writing up chapter 11. Four more chapters.

To date, Royal Serf has over 40,000 words - it is a novel. I am sewing up the mystery-suspense-action pieces of chapters 12 to 15.

Next, I will think of ways to explain political principles to youngsters. So far, I have the following:

Socialism…………….........…………… Babysitting adults
Capitalism………………….......…….… Mind your own business, Good work is the key to good fortune
Principle of Individual Rights……. Live and let live
To “do good” by force………....…… Arranged marriage
Coercion………………….......………... Rape, Military draft, Eat vegetables

Nina | 16 comments This message is not about books, dogs, horses, reading or writing; it is a plea for help from those of you who send me messages on Goodreads. I seem to get messages that don't fit on the margins; the right margin goes on beyond your words. I keep having to use the mouse to navigate back and forth and it is extremely difficult. No other of my email messages have this problem, My husband is a computer guru and after he works on it and gets it so I can read it line by line without hesitation OFF it goes again beyond the margin. It is truly frustrating. Do any of you have this problem and if so what do you do about it? And if not, do any of you change margins before you send the messages/I need your feedback on this. Thanks, nina

Hi Nina,

I don't have that problem. You could ask the Goodreads staff.

When I finish a novel, it is usually 80000 words in length, but my publisher always uses a formula that extends that to about 100000. Good luck with you novel, I wish you every success. My next book, THE THIRD SECRET is due out in May.

Nina | 16 comments Hi Ilyn,

Did you know two hundred years ago, Thomas Jefferson took his Bible, distilled it down to his favorite parts, and created what came to be known as the Jefferson Bible? I wish you Good writing to continue your book. nina

Hi Nina. Hi everyone.

I read about it, thank you, Nina. I will buy it after Royal Serf is published. Thank you so much for your good wishes.

I just finished reading the Autobiography of Thomas Jefferson. I dearly worship Mr. Jefferson. It is exceptionally wonderful to read his own words about his life. As I expected, he treasured his privacy - he said very little about his private life. He lovingly spoke of his wife in one sentence - he said he lived with her in "unchequered happiness".

Mr. Jefferson clearly admired Mr. George Washington and Dr. Benjamin Franklin. I love these:

"I served with General Washington in the legislature of Virginia, before the revolution, and, during it, with Dr. Franklin in Congress. I never heard either of them speak ten minutes at a time, nor to any but the main point, which was to decide the question. They laid their shoulders to the great points, knowing that the little ones would follow of themselves."

"Were we directed from Washington when to sow, and when to reap, we should soon want bread."

In 1769, chosen for the first time to be a member of a legislature, he "made one effort in that body for the permission of the emancipation of slaves, which was rejected..."

Have a marvelous day.

Nina | 16 comments I started to write something and then a long distance call interrupted so now it's lost, I fear. In any case, here's another try. Some of the headings of Goodreads are: WHAT ARE YOU DOING TODAY?
My answer is that my quest today was to find my binoculars so I can more easily bird watch. Since I moved a little over a year ago I don't recall seeing them since. Success! I didn't find them but my sleuth of a husband did and now there is a cardinal waiting to be watched. Because we have moved six times in the last eight years there are many missing items that come to our attention. Where are they???At least most of my books made it to this their last resting place..for now. nina "People say life is the thing, but I prefer reading." Logan Pearsall Smith

Nina | 16 comments Our land on which the house is situated was originally a field for raising race horses. One actually won the Kentucky Derby. He is buried about a mile from here high on a hill with a plaque on his gravesite telling his story. There are no houses across the street from us still. There is an open field with a split rail fence going all up and down the block. It is a private street. There is a radio tower in the field. I love looking at it at night when it is lighted as it reminds me of a lighthouse and that makes me feel I'm coming home safe this night from the days'journey. All along the fence are huge old pine trees and along side of our house. It is like a forest. Sometimes the front lawn is so thick with robins you can't see the grass. Behind our living room and open to it is a solariun with my hold over the winter flowers. Everything in the house is old fashioned; chintz and white marble and dark green walls in the living room which also has bookcases and a mantle with carved gargoyles..fun house. nina

Thanks, Michael.

My updated back-cover text:

A historical and current events fiction, Royal Serf is a political thriller depicting the real-life enslavement of the world’s lifeblood, the consequent economic dislocations, and an intellectual revolution.

To free wealth and job creators relegated as royal serfs, US Presidential Candidate Apollo Marianto and British Prime Minister Ian Washington shine light on the camouflage used by statists to enslave job creators: Business’ Goliath image. Having a monopoly on coercive power, only the government can become a Goliath.

Government-Goliath has terrorized job creators for over a century. Corporate America is under a bipartisan dictatorship.

Apollo and Ian fight for equal inherent inalienable rights, but they are in the crosshairs of a powerful quartet and a perfect assassin.

The quartet blackmails Apollo and Ian, using the British Crown Prince desirous of freedom, regarding himself as a royal serf to tradition, duty, and public opinion.

Set in the United States and the United Kingdom, mainly in the 2012 US presidential elections, the novel’s plot-theme is: a royal slave’s flight for independence, and an uncommon man’s struggle that his country’s Declaration of Independence might not perish from the Earth.

Apollo tells his countrymen: “The government lords it over citizens, looting and devouring businessmen and the top 2% taxpayers. Razing its sublime mandate to protect Rights, the government has become a thug, legalizing robbery and empowering parasites. I echo Ayn Rand. The final crossroad has come for our mixed economy: ‘either the private sector regains its freedom and starts rebuilding – or it gives up and lets the absolute state take over the shambles.’ I vow to free the private sector. The Mike Milken Admiration Party and I shall constitutionalize capitalism.”

Well done on completing your m/s. I wish you luck in your efforts to find a publisher or literary agent. If I can give you one piece of advice as a published author, send at least FIVE letters to agents and publishers (five each). There's no point in sending out one letter and waiting several weeks for a reply. Good luck

Nina | 16 comments For Ilyn, This was in our Letters to the Editor column a couple of days ago: MORALITY OF ATLAS SHRUGGED; Dan Werkowitch's letter "eerily precient words" correctly referred to Ayn Rand's novel "Atlas Shrugged," as "a warning about our current national political leaders, Democratic and Republican."

However, until not only the political, but more important, the moral significance of Rand's novel is understood and accepted, America will continue down the road to total government control adn destruction. The morality of self-sacrifice-of sacrificing the individual to the group, of "spreading the weath around"- has perverted the origingal American republic to the welfare-state nightmare of unlimited democracy of which James Madison warned. America has forgottn that the individual, not the collective, is the smallest minority. Only the morality of living for one's self, which Rand brilliantly depicts in the dramatic action of "Atlas Shrugged," can defend the individual's rights t olife, liberykt, property and the pursuit of happiness - and save America.
