Brian Poor | 3 comments I'm Brian Poor...

For me this weekend has been the Superbowl of my life. A year of very hard work just started a spark. Like always, I watched and celebrated alone, knowing this is but a cautious hope too easily blown out by a the gentle breeze of destiny.

I gave away over a thousand copies of Freaking Wicked. If I'm lucky it will hit 2000 before midnight. This is what two weeks of lonely dedication has wrought. In a burst of inspiration, I put Megazaur 2 up against it. Over 900 people grabbed free copies. If I'm lucky, one out all those giveaways will leave a review. And here is the initial payoff of all that hard work. I SOLD 22 copies of Megazaur for 99cents for a grand total of $7.00. A year of hard work and I made 7.00 dollars. Yet I celebrate this with every enthusiasm. Why? Hope and a spark of chance of I can figure out how to protect and fan that tiny spark into a flame. How will I do that? I have no idea. I have read everything on how to create an online presence---to get my name out there—to proclaim yes! I am worthy of your 99 cents or 2.99.

Somehow I have to find a different path. This will spark interest in me for three days and then I'll be forgotten. If I can find away to parlay this into success I will let you know right here.

I'm talking about KDP select and here was the plan going into this weekend. Put my newest release Freaking Wicked for free on Sat and sunday. I tweeted and FB'd as much as I could dare. I submitted to POI and ENT to announce it was free. Either place will send your downloads into the thousand. I searched and found several other places I could announce on FB. Then I decided to have fun.

I wanted to pit my two heroines Megan, the deliciously evil vampire in Freaking Wicked—against Akysha my forthright and overzealous sword-slinging, dinosaur rider from Megazaur 2. So I put them squarely head to head giving both away free. As of now they are #180 and #197 free, and 4th and 6th in the same category. POI ignored me, but ENT featured both on Sunday.

And I did one other thing I'm interested in seeing how works out. For this weekend, I asked my faithful ten arc readers to leave reviews on both books. (Okay so 8 are helpful and two usually just say I liked it! LOL). Cheating I know, but you need reviews and they are hard to get. And I really want to get out of the game of having fellow authors leave reviews. Plus, I had something else in mind. Linking. I had them download other authors like me, who were listed on ENT and POI. They liked their books and categories, and I asked them to leave for each author, a 5 star. It kind of bends the rules a little but doesn't break them. I know you can't get a little bit pregnant, but I'm a fantasy writer! Besides, I don't want to believe in karma, but if it does exist than I have some good coming, right?

So what does this mean an how it translate to sells? For three days I'll have a bubble of publicity before shrinking back down in obscurity. I'm going to lower FW to 99 cents instead of 2.99 to see if I can carry a little momentum. Then I have to get creative.

Will keep on posting...

It should be interesting to see how things progress.

Brian Poor | 3 comments After Freaking Wicked went from free to 99 cents on, I sold 24 copies this past monday. sice then it has dribbled along selling 2 to 3 books a day. not a best seller but alive and kicking.

I'll let you know what I do to help promote it onwards, and when it stops selling.
