Lee Enderlin | 16 comments I've got two books new on for the Kindle reader. One is a pure horror novel, "The Dead of Winter," and is available for $3. Here's the blurb:

College student Christy Brewer lives in a personal hell at home with an increasingly unreasonable and violent father while balancing school and a love life. Meanwhile, over a hundred miles away, in a small ski resort town, Police Chief Wayne Marski is suddenly dealing with a serial killer who is dispatching people in a particularly grisly manner. Worse, the few clues indicate that he is dealing with a human adversary.
Or is he?
Their stories coincide in a suspenseful and action-filled climax as a centuries-old curse comes home.

And here's the link:

Yeah, I know. It's stupidly long.
My other book is a brief anthology of four stories: three horror and one mystery. It's called "Four Tales for Midnight" and costs $1. Here's the blurb:

Four tales of extreme suspense and mystery aimed at getting the heart pumping. Hard. A soldier on D-Day finds an enemy soldier acting very strangely indeed; a jilted husband creates a grisly scavenger hunt; a marriage reconciliation service ABSOLUTELY guarantees positive results—the question is, how? And more!
Turn out the lights and enter a bizarre world, but remember—don't go in the basement!

And the link:

Also, please visit my website at

I'd love to hear what you have to say about my books. Thanks!!

Nicola Claire (NicolaClaire) Entwined with the Dark (Kindred, # 7) by Nicola ClaireHi Everyone,

Just letting you know that book seven in the Kindred Series: Entwined with the Dark has been released.

I've had so much fun with this Adult Paranormal Romance Series and loved writing this latest instalment.

What ARC reviewers are saying:

“So much happened in this book it was unreal. A monumentous amount of action, sex, love, anger, happiness… You name it and it was present at some point in this book and I found myself feeling it all just the same.”

“I smiled when Luce and Michel had their loving moments and couldn’t believe how much more I fell in love with those two. I didn’t think that was even possible. They are in fact one of the most epic couples in my eyes and it is just written beautifully.”

“Everything and everyone in this book and all the other books, are written wonderfully to the point that I’m glued to the pages at every moment always wanting and needing to know what’s next.”

Kathryn (kathrynmeyergriffith) | 143 comments My newest release, novel #16, (self-published for the first time because I'm tired of giving all the royalties to publishers...and that's a whole other story) DINOSAUR LAKE is a monster story, a SF/horror. Oh, it's also one of this month's Book of the Month nominees here, as well. The book has taken a long strange journey to publication. Zebra bought it, edited it and had final covers done...five weeks to the book 1993, but when I lost my sweet editor, the new editor, a man, didn't like it, saying, "No one wants to read about a dinosaur." What! Zebra dumped the book and then dumped me. Ah, the life of a writer. And 6 months later the book Jurassic Park came out! I stuck the manuscript away and just finally rewrote it after 20 years and decided to try my hand at self-publishing. I'm real proud of it. I have always loved anything to do with dinosaurs. Loved the old stop-action movies. Any books on dinosaurs. Here's the blurb below. Warmly, horror author Kathryn Meyer Griffith

An ancient predator has been reborn in the caves beneath Crater Lake
…and it’s hungry.
Ex-cop Henry Shore has been Chief Park Ranger at Crater Lake National Park for eight years and he likes his park and his life the way it’s been. Safe. Tranquil. Predictable. But he’s about to be tested in so many ways. First the earthquakes begin…people begin to go missing…then there’s some mysterious water creature that’s taken up residence in the caves below Crater Lake and it’s not only growing in size, it’s aggressive and cunning…and very hungry.
And it’s decided it likes human beings. To eat.
And it can come up onto land.
So Henry, with the help of his wife, Ann; a young paleontologist named Justin; and a band of brave men, must not only protect his park and his people from the monster but somehow find where it lives and destroy it…before it can kill again. ***

John (johnpeters2) | 6 comments The final two stories in my Nine Weeks of Halloween Horror are out. The first, A Mother's Love, explores just how far a mother will go to save her child, and what price she might be willing to pay.

A Mother's Love -- 99 cents.

The second, For Want of A Ghost, is about a writer assigned a story on local ghost tales for a regional magazine, a great assignment until he finds there are no ghost stories. He keeps digging until he learns a dark little secret -- one town in the area hasn't recorded a single death in generations -- and that's a secret the townsfolk will protect at all costs.

For Want of a Ghost -- 99 cents.

Paula Cappa | 121 comments Greetings!

Newbie, here. Paula Cappa. My novel, Night Sea Journey, A Tale of the Supernatural has just launched on Amazon. It's a scary read but not extreme horror. Does anybody in this group like "quiet horror" or what they term "soft horror"? It's a tad less violent than traditional.

My one line synopsis: Nightmares and reality merge when a firehawk invades artist’s dream world.

When artist Kip Livingston dreams inside Abasteron House on Horn Island, mysterious forces invade her mind. She dreams of a shadowy firehawk that drags her to the sea and transports her beneath the snaking waves. Here, grey figures in sea-masks haunt. Kip awakes, but she brings back with her pieces from each nightmare, including a blue-black serpent that slides across the sheets in her bed. These supernatural elements are fully alive and so threatening, they drive her into the arms of the sensual Father Raymond Kera.

Are Kip's dreams a passage to a land of ghosts? A psychic destiny? Or a cosmic path to a truth that no one wants to believe? One thing is certain: Kip is compelled to travel these dark nights beneath the ghost-grey sea to reach her journey’s end.

And I probably did these links wrong; I'm hopeless with all the technology. I'd like to know if anyone in this group finds my synopsis inviting.

John (johnpeters2) | 6 comments Rather than releasing a single book or collection for the Halloween season. I've been engaged in releasing a short story each week through Amazon in a series I call Nine Weeks of Halloween Horror.

There's a zombie tale ( -- though the zombies might not be the true monsters);

An old curse that comes back to haunt a young football player ( -- and a bit of dark humor);

And what one reader called an example of "channelling Hitchcock" (

My personal favorites are Patron Saint (, The Journal ( and the one that seems to have gotten more attention from readers, The Dark Secret of Warren House (

If you are only going to check out one or two, I'd suggest from that last group. Whether you check out one or all, I hope you enjoy them -- and they stay with you long after you're doing reading!

Rosemary Fryth | 1 comments G'day, I'm an Aussie author writing in the genres of epic and contemporary paranormal dark fantasy.

I'd just like to tell you all about my contemporary paranormal dark fantasy trilogy 'The Darkening'.

The first book (Dark Confluence) was released earlier this year, and last week the second book in the series (Dark Destination) was published. The third and final book is expected to be published in the first quarter of 2013.

Unlike most in the paranormal genre, my trilogy is not about vampires, werewolves or the undead, but rather about dark faeries (the Fae). Set in Australia, 'Dark Confluence' is about a small country town that is under attack from a rebel group of malign faeries. My main character is an unlikely heroine, and not your usual pre-teen or young adult.

'Dark Confluence' and 'Dark Destination' does deal with adult concepts, and contains light paranormal horror, and some sexual references - so a reader age of eighteen years and older is recommended.

Dark Confluence

p.s. I'm offering 'Dark Confluence' free at Smashwords for the month of October. More information here:

James Lyon | 20 comments Kirkus Reviews wrote: "In the glut of vampire-themed novels now on the market, Lyon’s debut stands out… skillful… authentic… fascinating… inspired… Lyon executes it perfectly... vivid... engaging... highly promising... sophisticated..."

"The smell of blood is in the air, I sense it even now. People thirst for it; the entire country is mad with desire for it. And now we are going to war with our brothers because they look like us, and because we can smell our blood coursing through their veins...” A mysterious letter starts a university student on a journey into the war-torn lands of rapidly disintegrating Yugoslavia. Naively trusting his enigmatic professor, the student unwittingly descends into a dystopian crucible of decay, destruction, passion, death, romance, lust, immorality, genocide, and forbidden knowledge promising immortality. As the journey grows ever more perilous, he realizes he must confront an ancient evil that has been once again loosed upon the earth: from medieval Bosnia to enlightenment-era Vienna, from the bright beaches of modern-day Southern California to the exotically dark cityscapes of Budapest and Belgrade, and horrors of Bosnia.

Vampires have formed an integral part of Balkan folklore for over a thousand years. "Kiss" represents a radical departure from popular vampire legend, based as it is on genuine Balkan folklore from as far back as the 14th century, not on pop culture or fantasy. "Kiss of the Butterfly" offers up the real, horrible creatures that existed long before Dracula and places them within a modern spectrum.

Meticulously researched, “Kiss of the Butterfly” weaves together intricate threads from the 15th, 18th and 20th centuries to create a rich phantasmagorical tapestry of allegory and reality. It is about divided loyalties, friendship and betrayal, virtue and innocence lost, obsession and devotion, desire and denial, the thirst for life and hunger for death, rebirth and salvation. “Kiss” blends history and the terrors of the Balkans as it explores dark corners of the soul.

“Kiss of the Butterfly” is based on true historical events. In the year of his death, 1476, the Prince of Wallachia -- Vlad III (Dracula) -- committed atrocities under the cloak of medieval Bosnia’s forested mountains, culminating in a bloody massacre in the mining town of Srebrenica. A little over 500 years later, in July 1995, history repeated itself when troops commanded by General Ratko Mladic entered Srebrenica and slaughtered nearly 8,000 people, making it the worst massacre Europe had seen since the Second World War. For most people, the two events seemed unconnected… Until now.

The author is an American ex-pat with a Ph.D. in Balkan History (UCLA, 1995) who has lived and worked in the former Yugoslavia for over 18 years (Serbia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Croatia, etc). In addition to his work as an historian, editor and political analyst, he has recently e-published a novel ("Kiss of the Butterfly" -- paranormal/historical fiction) set largely in the former Yugoslavia during the 1990s. It is based on his research into Balkan folklore and history, as well as his experiences in the region during the wars. Although the book begins in 1476, much of it takes place in Serbia and Bosnia, with assorted Balkan oddities.

Jason Parent | 20 comments Hi everyone:

I guess I missed this post until now. My book came out early August. It's called What Hides Within, and it's a mix of horror, suspense, and dark humor, a great read for the oncoming Halloween season! Here's the synopsis:

Inside all of us, there is darkness. Inside Clive, it's tangible, and it's aching to get out.

What Hides Within tells the story of a man held captive by an unknown evil. Clive Menard is a spineless slacker leading an ordinary existence. But when Chester enters his life, it becomes far from ordinary.

A disheveled Clive stands alone in a hospital waiting room. A series of incidences have led him to undergo unnecessary neurosurgery. A voice inside Clive’s head nags him to kill the doctor.

Weeks prior, a murder investigation and an unrelated kayaking excursion set the story’s interlocking events in motion. When a remorseful killer, a bomb-happy psychopath and a mysterious widow spider converge upon Clive, they bring with them destruction and death. Clive must discover who or what is steering his very existence before he, too, is consumed by the carnage around him.

With a driven detective following his every step and a vicious killer hiding within his circle of friends, Clive must walk a narrow and dangerous path, teetering between salvation and damnation. He must confront Chester and his own demons. But is he powerless to overcome them?

Here's where you can get it:

Non-fiction, and scary as hell to go public with this!

Alien Nightmares Screen Memories of UFO Alien Abductions Kindle Edition by Sharon Delarose

Extraordinary true-life chronicles of a UFO alien abductee as revealed through vividly creepy dreams and screen memories. Walk the scary trails with me, haunted by creatures who followed me for decades with night terrors, monstrous visitors, bizarre visions, and fright nights that had me turning on all the lights afraid to go to sleep.

Journey with me into Alien Nightmares full of the dreams, memories, and vivid imagery which led me to believe that extraterrestrials had come calling.

I lived in an amazing world full of terrifying creatures, whirlwinds, bizarre tasks and puzzles, and night visitors who took me and left me feeling drugged. UFOs flew in and out of my dreams for decades and I'd wake up knowing that this dream was not like the others, especially when they left me utterly terrified. There was no such thing as a safe place and I knew it.

Who were they? What did they want? Remember the old saying, “Judge not, lest ye be judged?” Well it’s coming home to roost and it’s riding in on a UFO. Are the aliens the antichrist that the Bible warns of? Or are they our lifeboats to a brave new world? Do they bring a message of empowerment, or are we just rats in a maze? Whoever they are, one thing is certain: We cannot handle their truth.

If you are a believer, you’ll see screen memories from an abductee. If you are a skeptic, you’ll see a child with a big imagination and an adult who experiences extraordinarily vivid nightmares. Either way, God help you if the nightmares ever come and haunt you…

Jaye Frances | 32 comments My new Sci-Fi fantasy "The Beach" was released today on Amazon in kindle eBook. Through September 15, 2012, I’m offering the book at a reduced introductory release price of $0.99

Here’s the Amazon link:

The Beach is one of two novellas (called a duella in book marketing parlance), and features the bonus story Short Time. Here’s a little bit about both:

Alan loves the beach. More than a weekend respite, it is his home, his refuge, his sanctuary. And for most of the year, he strolls the sand in blissful solitude, letting nature—and no one else—touch him. But spring has given way to summer, and soon, the annual invasion of vacationers and tourists will subdivide the beach with blankets, umbrellas, and chairs, depriving Alan of his privacy and seclusion—the fundamental touchstones of his life.

Resigned to endure another seasonal onslaught of beach-goers, Alan believes there is nothing he can do but prepare for the worst.

But fate has other plans.

Delivered to him on the crest of a rogue wave, the strange object appears to have no purpose, no practical use—until Alan accidentally discovers what waits inside. Now he must attempt to unravel an ageless mystery, unaware that the final outcome will change his life, and the beach, forever.

In the companion novella Short Time, you’ll meet a respectable but bored middle-class executive, who exchanges his future for six months of excess and extravagance, only to find out the price he must pay for his hedonistic indulgence is beyond anything he could have imagined.

The stories contain mature language and themes, and are best suited for an adult reader.

Hopefully, I’ve piqued your interest and you’ll consider adding "The Beach" to your kindle reading list!

Thank you,
Jaye Frances

Sara Shrieves (SaraShrieves) | 27 comments Hello everyone. A few of these books I have already purchased and/or marked to-read! Very cool. :)

Here's mine, just released July 19th (it's a YA horror novel): Who is Audrey Wickersham? by Sara Shrieves

Synopsis: I know everything that's happened is my fault. I try to tell myself that it's okay, I never wanted a normal life to begin with. But then I think about who's been hurt, and I wish that I could go back to the beginning. Back to when I was just a nobody wandering the halls of my high school, alone and unnoticed. Back to when I was completely oblivious to what killing somebody felt like.

You have to understand though, I had no choice.

S.M. Oberhansley (smober) | 34 comments Hi everyone! My novel, Silence of Souls, is out today! Hot off the presses, you can be one of the first people to read this zombie apocalypse novel!

Julia finds herself at Ground Zero of the apocalypse, torn away from her family. With very little idea of where they may be and no clue whether or not her loved ones are even still alive, Julia is thrust together with a group of strangers who must work together to survive. They travel the country in search of a sanctuary they aren't sure really exists.

This thrilling novel is about 95,000 words (similar in length to The Hunger Games).

In celebration of the release, I'm doing a random drawing to giveaway FIVE $20 gift cards to! Details are here.

Silence of Souls by Stefanie Oberhansley

Thank you for looking, and may the zombies spare your flesh! ;)

Faith Marlow | 68 comments Hello everyone and thank you for such an active and interesting discussion group! As a new Goodreads member and author, it is so helpful to be a part of a group that is full of life and communication. Although my book was published a few months ago, I wanted to properly introduce it to the group.

I have always been intrigued by vampires because they are the all-purpose creature/ villain. But over the years vampires, particularly Dracula, has met a similar fate as Darth Vader. What was once intended to terrify has become a bit mellow. He has lost his bite. We dress our children up as these characters for Halloween. People have seemed to forget that “Dracula” sits on the Horror shelf. What would life be like for the three women in the shadows, his brides? I wanted to explore this dark relationship in a “realistic” way. It would often be a difficult and terrifying existence, not to mention the jealousy and competition. I wanted the danger to be just below the surface, lurking. It would be a love affair with a supernatural serial killer.

I am so very proud to share with you for your reading enjoyment, “Being Mrs. Dracula”. This is the story of Count Dracula’s three wives, told in part by journals and diaries, reminiscent of the Bram Stoker classic. I sought to give these women an identity and voice through which to tell their stories, so my novel explores the personal history of each woman, her background and personality. The lives of Valeria, Ilona, and Fleur were transformed by meeting the handsome nobleman from Transylvania, their long unnatural lives eternally intertwined. They are bound to the same man, Count Vlad Dracula, by the same dark love, but their stories are uniquely theirs.

Being Mrs. Dracula by Faith Marlow

A careful blending of true historical accounts of Vlad the Impaler and a horror masterpiece, while maintaining an identity all its own, “Being Mrs. Dracula” sheds light on three of the most recognizable, yet unexplored, figures of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula”. It is a story that respectfully recognizes its roots, yet dares to explore further into the intimate relationships of these characters.

Brave Valeria, reserved Ilona, and the flamboyant Fleur are waiting to share their world with you. “Being Mrs. Dracula” is available for just $0.99 at most major Ebook retailers, such as Amazon, Smashwords, and Barnes & Noble. Sample chapters are available free of charge.

Thanks and Happy Reading,

George L. Cook III (glc3) | 25 comments 5 star review for Alone With The Dead

5 star review for Alone With The Dead ( Amazon UK ) More than just a zombie story. 18 July 2012 By Cathy Hudson

I nabbed this while this was a freebie. I’ve never read anything by George L Cook before and was pleasantly surprised to find that I actually enjoyed this. The horror genre has zombie stories emerging from every orifice. However I found this to be more than just another gory shocker. This story centred on the love and strength of a little family unit caught up in a zombie invasion. The horror came from the emotions of the main character as he fought to get his wife and son to a place of safety against all odds. This was only a very short story, 15 minutes tops but I was still thinking about that poor man the next morning. I will be looking out for more from this writer.

Night Realm is a Paranormal Detective novel set on Australia's Gold Coast. It is the story of private detective, Ryan Fox. When he meets the beautiful Selena Thorne, Ryan’s life takes a detour into a dark world he thought only existed in folklore and in the minds of movie producers. Selena hires Ryan to acquire the unusual research of scientist, Doctor Marlon Becker. Becker is a hematologist and an expert in blood disorders. When Ryan discovers what the focus of Becker’s research is, it puts a whole new spin on things.

Chelsea, Ryan's teenage sister, meets Travis and she soon realizes there is something very different about this attractive and mysterious new boy in town. A relationship quickly develops .No sooner has Chelsea fallen for Travis when she learns he’s not actually what he seems.

Meanwhile, Homicide Detective David Marks investigates a spate of strange murders, where victims appear to have had every drop of blood drained from their bodies, with the only apparent injuries being two puncture wounds on the throat. With no solid leads on a suspect and more people dying every few days, Marks is getting nowhere fast in his quest to apprehend the killer.

As the story unfolds the lives of the characters - both human and vampire - come together in a gripping climax where not everyone comes out alive, and not everything goes as planned.

Karen Fowler (imaquirkygurl) | 10 comments Kill Me is still technically a new release (it's been out less than 30 days) and so far it's getting great reviews.

Kill Me (Blood Chord #1) by Alex Owens

Three days ago, she was a wife, a mother, and very much alive... then the music called to her.

Marketing maven Claire has one goal for the Music Expo-- to land a few whales so that her boss will give her a badly needed raise. She puts on her game face and courts the industry's elite until her plans are derailed by hotness-in-high-heels.

Vampire Bette wants to find a human with untapped talents that she can mold and control. Using a haunted violin, she lures Claire in with her lilting song and bewitching smile. In that moment, Claire's life is unraveled and she finds herself with more than strange dreams and overdue bills to worry about. Much more.

To make matters worse, Claire is attracted to two unlikely people-- Bette and her hunky but pale associate, Gregor. Both can light Claire's fire, but is either of them the only one?

Unfortunately for Claire, life isn't all song lyrics and seduction. Tied to darkness by blood and power, Claire must harness her abilities if she has any hope of returning home to her daughter and regaining her former life.

Kill Me, the debut novel from author Alex Owens, is a quirky paranormal fantasy complete with music, magic, fangs and freaks. It is also the first in a planned series, with the second book due out by the Fall of 2012. Be forewarned, this is not your daughter's paranormal.

News reporters scrambled. This was the biggest story to come along in weeks.

They called it a blackout.

The last one was in New York City in 2003, but this one was different, special, because the grids in six major cities across the country had been fried, kaput, see-you-next-Sunday. Everyone with some jurisdiction blamed each other, and when there was no one left to blame, terrorism rode in on its gallant steed.

It was the media’s fault. They were so busy stuffing fanatical Muslims with a penchant for Allah and decapitations down the American citizen’s throat, that they never saw it coming. I guess I shouldn’t be too hard on them.

They were partially right.

It was terror after all, but a whole new kind. And when the lights came back on, things had changed.

The dark had brought us visitors.
