But the entire point of this sub-forum, in my mind, is to call a spade a spade. I got annoyed seeing posts in the main threads that were obvious spam...but if it's here, there is some inherent aspect of spam to it.
I don't mind authors posting their stuff here, even if it's their only contribution to the S&L community. Though I agree, it's be awesome for them to get involved...and I'm personally more likely to check it out if the person is an involved member of the community...

Thank you, Aloha, terpkristin, and Michah, in that order, for your comments.
Aloha, you're very welcome.
Terpkristin, your point is very well stated and I agree. I joined this group because I subscribe to geeksandsundry on YouTube, and I am excited about The Sword and Laser as a viewer, not just an author who sees an opportunity to promote in a relevant forum. I readily admit that am new on Goodreads, and I am not familiar with the etiquette, though I will be reading other discussions, even if I don't have anything to contribute directly.
And Michah, in the future, if you think that a post is spam, I encourage you to check the rules for your "exclusive" club and the title of its folders, think twice, and if you still think it's spam, you should flag the post, or contact the OP directly. I don't suppose you noticed that yours was the first comment on my post and that I have you to thank for propelling this discussion back toward the top of the list (by recent activity) in this folder. Personally, I would like this discussion to focus on the relative merits and weak points of my book, but whoever feels compelled to use this as an opportunity to discuss the ins and outs of manners on a social network, you are certainly free to do so.
I wish you the best in your book, Kyle. In your future promo, whatever you do, do not use thread headers that people can pick on, such asHEADS UP! A NOVEL OF THE SECOND COMING!
or
HEADS UP! PLUGS IN!
Then I will come in to make trouble because the meanings are just too delicious to not make fun of. LOL. I embarrassed the heck out of the authors not out of meanness but because the opportunity is too good to not to.

I just couldn't resist when I saw the first words were "get inspired". They just spoke to my inner 13 year old and I had to say something semi-snarky or I would have self imploded. :)

I never said it was "exclusive" yo! I hope your book does well. And I am glad that you found S&L with the new youtube show. More members equals more opinions and more opinions equals better club.
But like terpkristin said being an involved member of the community would help you out a lot more than just posting one time. And yes I posted knowing full well that it would bring your thread back to the top in the recent activity folder. I hoped that it would spark a discussion such as this one. So your welcome?
I did not flag your post as spam because it's not truly *spam* yo! I was just remarking that it was your only post in our "exclusive" free to join because its on the internet club. But please feel free to contribute more. I have found that it's a GREAT forum filled with awesome people.
edit: and I say this as someone who posts my fair share of "that's what she said" jokes to these forums. The people here are very welcoming. :)

Like I said, free discussion. So please do take my thanks as genuine. Anything to keep this at the top of the list! Haha.
As a newbie, right now I feel that posting a link to my free novel is the best contribution I am currently able to make, so I made it. I look forward to sticking around longer and making more... obviously altruistic contributions.
And thanks for saying that you don't think my post is spam. As a brand-spanking-new indie author--well, and generally in life--I'm fairly self-conscious. Getting people reading my book doesn't mean much if it isn't done in a moral, ethical way.
And I did notice at least one of your "that's what she said" jokes. I had looked through your comments and saw you refer to S&L as an "exclusive" club in another post. I understand now that you were just being your snarky self there, too. Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone, I suppose.

Ryan, Erin, Kris, and Jason are heroes defined by the villain, unwitting assistants in a cataclysm brought about by an old man who calls himself... Devidis. The four modern, international teens awaken deep within a jungle canyon, a prison in the post-apocalyptic empire established by the tyrannical Devidis. Surrounded by danger, the four Elementals quickly embrace their new-found super-powered control of the elements—wind, fire, water and stone—under the guidance of Sensei, an imprisoned freedom fighter who believes that Devidis’ near omnipotence is a clear sign that the world is a persistent illusion in the mind of its evil emperor. And so the Elementals are forced to come of age in an increasingly hostile land. Though supernaturally capable, they are faced with a frightening possibility: are their hopes, goals, powers, friends, enemies, surroundings and selves... all an illusion?
At 27 years old, I have spent half my life writing LEGEND OF THE ELEMENTALS. I started this young adult series as a teenager myself, and my writing has been informed by my experience teaching English to young people throughout Asia and traveling the world, from the mysterious castles of Japan, to the ancient monuments of the Middle East, and the overgrown rivers of the Amazon jungle. Now that LEGEND OF THE ELEMENTALS is itself a teenager, it's time to give this opening novel a kick out the door, to give the fantasy genre itself a kick of realism, a REINTRODUCTION.
In my short time on this earth, I've grown up with easy Midwestern manners and cleaned up in the aftermath of the great earthquake near Tokyo. I've found meaning in real adventure and idle fantasy, and I am anxious to share these lessons of the Elementals with the world. In this spirit, I hope you'll consider downloading a 100% free copy of LEGEND OF THE ELEMENTALS, BOOK 1: REINTRODUCTION. I appreciate any and all recommendations, especially reviews. Thank you for your time and consideration.
