Which series do you like better? The Infernal Devices or The Mortal Instruments? Will or Jem? Do you like Simon better or Jace? Should Simon end up with Isabelle? Should Jocelyn marry Luke? Let all your Infernal Devices and Mortal Instruments debates begin!

Brooke (thecovercontessa) I have read both the Infernal Devices books and I LOVE them. I love the time period, I love the characters. I cannot decide between Jem and Will, I love them both! I am reading my first Mortal Instruments book now. It's very different as far as time period is concerned, but the characters are eerily similar to those in the Infernal Devices series! I like it! I'm glad I read ID first, to get the back ground! I can't really debate farther than that since I'm just getting into MI now!

cayla (jumbleofpassions) tid, i love tmi but tid has my vote. i'm a big fan of the victorian era and it's just a perfect time period. i love jem and will, so both. simon i like better (sorry jace!) as for simon ending up with isabelle...they should (but i doubt they would...idk why) and yeah jocelyn should marry luke! and i guess that's all???

Karina Been thinking about this and...The Mortal Instruments! Hands down!
I wasnt even going to read ID but a friend convinced me. It has been great so far, and I love the time period as well as the storyline and characters but I was more into MI.

I like Will but I adore Jem, he is such a sweetheart! I want him to have a happy ending but I am not so confident that will happen :(
and I hate Tess for saying yes!

I cant decide between Jace and Simon..I love both.
and I dont think I like the idea of Simon and Isabelle together..

I could swear that Jocelyn and were already planing a wedding..I guess its time for a re-read.

Jane Without doubt TMI......... I couldn't enjoy the ID because I read them as the same characters as TMI it just felt like they were the same people following practically the same journey just in a different time with different names. Plus i have a major problem with the whole series .... it should have stayed as a trilogy. CoFA was not as good as the first three and it feels like CC just kept writing to keep the fans buying. i find it a little disappointing really!!!

Interesting. I read ID first, so I feel like it's the other way around, LOL!

Shotgunguyiscool ♉ (shotgunguyiscool) ACtually, I love TID more when I'm reading it and vice versa, lol. I like the individual characters in TID more but love the story plot and the couples more in TMI. Like Magnus and Alec :D And I love Jace and Clary too!!!! With Jace being more vulnerable in recent books, I feel like embracing him :P

Personally I love the urban feel of both books. As for me since I read TMI first I love it more. The Victorian time period really adds to the story with the automatons and stuff. I love all the characters and since I'm a guy I'm not into the team will and jem thing. CoFA was really good and I'm not sure why many people hate it except Alec and Magnus were really irritating!

Cupcake Bookworm (cupcakebookworm) i havent read either, but when i read the summaries for both, they seemed to be the same plot, even the term 'shadowhunters' used in both. were the books the same at all or what?

The Infernal Devices series is the pre-qual to The Mortal Instruments series.

They are similar but unique in their own ways.

yes!

Lindsay (ltg584) I would have said Mortal Instruments, until I read book 4. I really thought it was a step down from the trilogy, which was originally intended to be the end of the series.
I was also not a huge fan of Infernal Devices after book 1, but book 2, although nothing big really happened, felt like a stronger style of writing. I'm looking forward to the third (and final?) book.

I didn't really like Clockwork Angel sorry to disappoint y'all but I loved clockwork prince..

cayla (jumbleofpassions) Scott wrote: "I didn't really like Clockwork Angel sorry to disappoint y'all but I loved clockwork prince.."

What made you like the second better than the first?

Cupcake Bookworm (cupcakebookworm) ive only read clockwork angel.

Cupcake Bookworm (cupcakebookworm) will it be okay if i read all the infernal devices and then mortal instruments or can i read them at the same time or does it not matter?

Lindsay (ltg584) Cupcake Bookworm: I read them all at the same time, and it didn't throw me.
In response to Cayla, I can't pinpoint any specific reason the second one was better. In theory, the first was more eventful, so should have been more exciting, but I just kind of felt it was boring.
The second one, absolutely nothing eventful happened, but the character development was awesome! Much better than the usual "middle book".

From just reading some reviews.. some people thought there wasn't enough action, focused too heavily on character development, and so much too much like a soap opera. I guess they are entitled to their opinion but I loved it!

Marie (mariekate25) | 14 comments No doubts about it, hands down the mortal instruments. But everything could change when we read the final books, it's all about how they end these series.

Painful wait?

Lucy Qhuay Well, I prefer The Mortal Instruments Series because the plot is much more interesting and exciting.
I'm Team Jace because I find battle-scarred, hardened heroes, that, in the essence, are really fragile and insecure very interesting. He is just better than Simon (Sorry Simon!!)
But I do love The Infernal Devices as well.
I am totally Team Jem because he is just the sweetest, most caring guy in the whole world and, although I was moved with Will's pain in Clockwork Prince and I already know what was going on with him, I still feel that he needs to make amends and to prove that he is, indeed, a great guy. Yes, I think that Simon should end up with Isabelle so as he can show her that giving your heart to someone is not always equivalent to suffering.
Jocelyn should totally marry Luke because he always loved her and I think that she always loved him too but didn't know it.
Besides, Luke is a great guy and Clary's truly father (You know what I mean, right? He's not her biological father but he was the one who always loved her and who brought her up with Jocelyn.

message 45: by Jay (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jay I think mortal instruments is better

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

Mortal Intruments for me.

Nicole Sanglay (speckintheuniverse) Infernal Devices ♥

Kellie Maddox-Ward (lil_kel4) This is really hard!
I LOVED LOVED TMI's and had the biggest crush on Jace..
I then Read Clockwork Princess and thought it was ok and fell for Will..
But THEN I read the City of Fallen Angels, and HATED the ending!
So of Course I went back and read ID and LOVED Clockwork Prince. I want Jem to have a happy ending but my heart still belongs to Will. It broke my heart when Tess told him she was engaged after he told her how he felt..

Soo I guess I have to say TMI without the ending in book 4.. But Will over Jace
but still 22 days and CoLS comes out!! Maybe Jace can redeem themselves

Shotgunguyiscool ♉ (shotgunguyiscool) I realised I love both in different ways.
I love TMI because I have read a lot of good reviews about it and I anticipate a lot! And it lived up to my high expectations, even exceeded it.
But for TID, I think it's because of the background that I love it, Victorian era, who can not love it??!! And of course, because Will and Tessa are avid readers :)

Whitney (whitnage) The Mortal Instrument Series is definitely my favorite right now. I like the Infernal Devices, but at first I read through it trying to figure how what was going on in these books would effect Clary, Jace, etc in the TMI books, but I of course inevitably got sucked in as it progressed. I'm really looking forward to The Dark Artifices set in the future though :)
