thanks!

message 602: by Sigrun (new)

Sigrun (Ranugis) | 26 comments I'm just new to Goodreads and the librarian duties here. There are a few things I'm wondering about, mostly authors' names that are mentioned multiple times for just the one entry.

1. Sometimes names are duplicated or even triplicated and "torn apart" for just one title. What should be done about this.

2. I added one of my books and noticed that the author's name onsite had a second name which I could find nowhere in my edition of the book, e.g., James Randolph Scott, instead of James Scott. Should that be left as it is, or should only the names that appear on the book/s be entered as author?

Thanks for any pointers on these questions.

Ksenia (Owl_Laughing) | 14 comments Could someone please help me with these two:
- a real valid Russian edition of Salman Rushdie's 'Shame' here: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/79...
- a clone with the same cover and no ISBN which, I guess, correspond to exactly the same edition: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/10...
I've checked, and I believe there is only one Russian edition with this cover, so the second one should be removed.

Got 612.

Sigrun, I suggest a new thread in the policies folder. This thread isn't a good place for discussions.

Ninja Neko (Ninja_Neko) | 153 comments Could a super delete this one: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/21... it's combined with the proper editions.

message 608: by vicki_girl (new)

vicki_girl | 2766 comments That book is a "rescued" edition. As far as I know, we are not deleting those yet.

Ninja Neko (Ninja_Neko) | 153 comments vicki_girl wrote: "That book is a "rescued" edition. As far as I know, we are not deleting those yet."

It was listed as "unknown author" & "unknown title", but based on the original title field which was still intact I was able to match the author & title. But since there's no isbn I thought it could be merged with the editions that were complete. Are there still some imports to be done that could add extra data to these books?

message 610: by vicki_girl (new)

vicki_girl | 2766 comments As far as I know, imports are still on-going. Maybe Rivka can give us an update. :)

Rebeca (alivewiththesun) | 8 comments Someone should have a look at this book: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/29...
It's basically the same as this one: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/11... and as far as I can tell a lot of the info is wrong.

message 616: by vicki_girl (new)

vicki_girl | 2766 comments It looks to me like it just needs combined. What info do you think is incorrect?

RE: 623

This book can be found at: http://openlibrary.org/books/OL770644... and has a distinct ISBN.

My guess is that it should stay, probably being combined with the other.

message 618: by Rebeca (new)

Rebeca (alivewiththesun) | 8 comments Oh, sorry. My bad. I just couldn't find that ISBN anywhere, so I thought maybe it was wrong..

That doesn't actually mean anything, in most cases.

M.B. Mulhall (MBM8377) | 3 comments Is it possible to delete a book (of my own) that hasn't been published yet?

I got a surprising request for a partial & am holding off on self publishing. If nothing comes of it, I'd like to put the book back up. Will that be an issue?

The two editions are here:
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13...

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13...

Thank you!

message 626: by vicki_girl (last edited May 26, 2012 06:16AM) (new)

vicki_girl | 2766 comments It sounds like the book will be published, either the partial will pan out, or you will self-publish. If the books gets published, then the reviews can be moved/merged with the published version. If we delete it, the current reviews, and everyone who marked it as 'to-read' will be lost. You would have to just hope they remember to re-add it later. In addition, we try not to delete books members have shelved, unless it really doesn't exist (most of the deletions on these threads are actually merges into other editions so there is still something on the person's shelves).

We can (and do) delete books that were planned but then later cancelled. However, this does not seem to be the case for your book.

Stephanie Rowe (StephanieRowe) | 8 comments Hi! This is my first time here, so hopefully I'm doing this right. Somehow I accidentally created 2 listings for the same book and I can't figure out how to take one of them down. The book is Dawn at Birch Crossing. One of the entries has been marked as a "to be read" by someone, but the other listing doesn't have any comments yet, so that's the one I want to take down, but I don't know how to do it. The link for the book I need to delete is: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/14...

I'm hoping this is the right place to ask for help! Thank you all so much in advance.

These are 2 distinct editions, each with their own ISBN, published in different years.
