Children's book, Only see father's legs, dark illustrations

OK, how to describe...it's a children's book from at least 25 years ago (YIKES!!). I seem to recall we had more than one by the same author. Very dreamy, other-worldly type books. One of them is written with a little girl narrating. She is either with her Papa, looking for her Papa or dreaming about him...you never see his face, only his legs. She watches him shave at some point. There may be another book with her and a brother.

There's a page with her walking into the ocean at night with Papa. (it wasn't an attempt at mutual suicide if you are wondering)You can see how these books tripped me out.

The pictures are dark and the illustrations odd. I loved these books but they creeped me out at the same time.
