Phil | 11628 comments I will be a grandpa in October.

My daughter told us tonight she's 4-6 weeks in. At this point she's only telling us and her in-laws because you never know what might happen. I already gave her a diaper genie and a baby monitor. Too soon? :)

message 16: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11628 comments Thanks everyone. It's cool, but a little weird.

Not sure if I like "Gramphil." Sounds a lot like "landfill." :)

Dr. Detroit | 6019 comments You're already older than the brontosaurus dung on the bottom of Piltdown Man's feet. Deal with it.

message 18: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11628 comments Yeah, I'm sort of looking forward to it & sort of feeling old.

Not nearly as old as Clark, though. :)

message 19: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6485 comments I don't think anyone "feels" as old as Clark!

On a good morning, I don't feel a day over 60. But I'm coming back for another year of softball.

I think that I am hanging the cleats up this year.

Agree! My friend says that grandkids are our reward for not killing our kids when they were teenagers. I think grandkids are our chance to have the patience to really love our kids again. p.s. my grandson's name is Charlie after my dad. Good strong name :)

message 27: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11628 comments When my wife was pregnant with our son, we thought about names a lot, but didn't select one until a day or so after he was born.

My daughter and her husband have already said they will name the child Lucas (boy) or Skye (girl). Apparently they've been thinking about this for some time.

message 28: by evie (new)

evie (ecie) | 4261 comments We chose our daughter's name before she was born. I had amniocentesis at fourteen weeks so we knew her gender.

Oh, I should have put that in the "my procedure" thread.

Or as we call her, Barb Jr.

Star Wars geeks?

message 31: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11628 comments Hmmm. Could be.

SIL wanted Vincent for a boy, but decided to use that as the middle name because when he mentioned it to people they all defaulted to saying "Vinnie."

I told him it was a good idea to change. Their last name begins with a "D" and who wants to grow up with the initials "VD?"

Angela~twistedmind~ (twistedmind) | 540 comments Congratulations, Phil!
I don't know about you, but once I have my grand-young'uns I won't be jumping into a pile of leaves. Damned if I won't break something.

Angela~twistedmind~ (twistedmind) | 540 comments You're probably correct, Charly. I probably will find myself diving into a pile of leaves. After which, I am quite sure,I will spend an unGodly amount of time in the ER waiting for the doc to set my arm. :D

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

OMG how did I miss this! Congratulations Phil. You look way too young to be a grandpa.

message 35: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11628 comments Thanks!

message 36: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11628 comments By the way, my daughter is now 4.5 months in and starting to show. My wife bought a bag online last week and was excited to show it to me... "know what this is? It's my diaper bag!"

She's very happy to be a grandma.

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

Me too. Jealous.

Fortunately the boys next door (ages 3,5,7 and 9) are my substitute grandchildren. Those two little ones came over at 7 a.m. and asked to see Dr. Cynthia's office. Exhausting, really. But so cute with their summer buzz cuts and dirty knees.
