Becky (beckyofthe19and9) This group has been sadly inactive lately, so I'm hoping that we can get things moving again 'round these parts!

To do that, I'm opening up a round of nominations. The theme for this round of nominations is for books that Joe Hill has recommended, or said that he enjoyed, etc.

These can be from anywhere - his blog, Twitter, books he rated highly on Goodreads, whatever floats your boat.

So to get the ball rolling, I'm going to nominate Joe's self-proclaimed favorite novel (found in his Jan 18th blog post), True Grit by Charles Portis.

So... Nominations are welcome... Please don't leave me hangin' here alone...

...please?

Chris (haughtc) | 130 comments Hey, that's an interesting nomination.

I'll try to think of one equally interesting.

Rachel | 92 comments Ready Player One...he was tweeting a lot about it a little bit ago, maybe last week or so.

message 4: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Oooh, good one!

message 5: by Felina (new)

Felina Ooo good idea. I actually have both of those books on my TBR so I'm happy. And like usual I have nothing to nominate.

message 6: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 92 comments I've had Ready Player One on my TBR for a while...not sure about True Grit, i really liked the movie but i don't often read westerns. Be a new experience, take me out of my comfort zone.

Kathy- I'm not sure why but that link goes to a travel book about Oregon. I looked the story up on Amazon though, it looks interesting.

Chris (haughtc) | 130 comments Heh..I guess it could qualify. If enough voted for it.

Oregon travel guide for the win!

if only we could come up with a way to tie it to the theme...too bad none Hill's books/stories take place in Oregon. None that I remember anyway.

Chris (haughtc) | 130 comments I think some of Dean Koontz's books take place in Oregon. Or at least the Northwest US.

But Dean Koontz sucks.

Wait, I can't say that out loud, can I? *scratches it out*. There. Fixed.

message 12: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 92 comments Not sure i see the connection to Hill but i've never read Koontz so thanks for the warning.

message 13: by Chris , The Devil Inside (new)

Chris (haughtc) | 130 comments There really isn't a connection to Hill. I was connecting the Oregon book. Right. So....

Keep the Hill favorites coming....

message 14: by Felina (new)

Felina Ive read two books by Koontz. One I absolutely loved and nobody else did and the other was highly rated and I thought it was a slog. Who knows....

message 15: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) That's cause you're backwards. That's all.

message 16: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) So, the nominations so far are:

True Grit by Charles Portis
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet by David Mitchell

What else?

message 17: by Tom (new)

Tom Mueller | 15 comments I'll have to go with Ready Player One.
Nostalgia? Well, I live in the 60s [and love it]
It's the author's debut - I like debuts [da butts too, FWIW]
Robots vs wizards? [what would LeGuin have to say about that?] My money is on the Mages.
Other universes? This is sounding better all the time.
AND - 'my' Library owns copies.
Me thinks my vote is for . . . the Oregon book, lol

message 18: by Tom (new)

Tom Mueller | 15 comments kidding folks.
My vote is for Ready Player One

message 19: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Umm.. OK.

Should I go ahead and set up the poll, or do we think more nominations might come in?

message 20: by Chris , The Devil Inside (new)

Chris (haughtc) | 130 comments I'm thinking poll...

message 21: by Micheal (new)

Micheal Shea | 9 comments My vote is for Ready Player One
