Hey everyone! No show this week, but get reading on The Lies of Locke Lamora if you haven't already! We'll be back next week.

Also, tonight is the second Vaginal Fantasy Hangout! 8pm on Felicia's Google Plus page.

I'll leave you with this non-subliminal subliminal message.
.. Old Man's War would be a great Laser pick ..

A Dance With Dragons ? Just sayin'. Old Man's War is a lot shorter too.

The scalzi we did read was an alt read to Dance with Dragons (S&L had already read George R.R. Martin even at that time).

Nick (whyzen) | 1295 comments I've actually already read Old Man's War but I just really enjoyed it and thought it would be a great laser pick for the club. Especially with the movie being made of it.

Anne Schüßler (anneschuessler) | 839 comments Turns out there's no way I'm getting up at 5 am, even for a Google hangout with Veronica and Felicia Day.

Good morning everyone.

Did I mention the thing where it was 5 am?

Also, I'm trusting that the video will be up on YouTube later.

Tamahome | 6353 comments Speaking of Laser book picks, I'm 3 hours into The Player of Games. So far so good.

message 16: by Ray (new)

Ray (freshness) | 10 comments One great Laser book pick would be Primary Inversion by Catherine Asaro.

Reasons why it's a great book:
- kick ass hard sci-fi
- written by a female author (a topic from a few podcasts ago)
- very fun, enjoyable read
- kick ass real sci-fi
- the author is a real scientist with a PHD
- hard scifi extrapolated from real scientific concepts
- Did I mention the book kicks ass?

Just my $0.02.
-Ray

Tamahome | 6353 comments Old Man's War is light years better than Fuzzy Nation. Just fyi.

message 18: by Nicholas (new)

Nicholas | 27 comments Personally, I've been dying to read the copy of The Anubis Gates I've got lying around here, though I'm not sure whether to throw a time-travel/steampunk novel into the sword or laser suggestion box.

Mike | 43 comments Anubis Gates, that is definitely on my list!

Penrow | 20 comments Old Man's War would be a great laser pick. Scalzi rocks.

message 21: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amanda-andonian) | 19 comments I actually read Old Man's War, and then promptly forgot about it. A year later, I randomly picked it up again. I only figured out that I'd read it before because everything seemed so familiar; by the time I got to the ending, I realized that I had indeed read the whole book already.

I wish I'd forget the books I read more often. It was awesome reading it again as if for the first time!
