What experiences have people had with print-based self publishing and/or print on demand?

Al, I'm new. Notice you posed a question back in 08. You probably have already gotten your answer but I have some positive experiences with the Print on Demand. If you do all the work yourself, or have someone do it for you, handing it off to them to print, great; books are professionally done, etc.
Don't buy the hype. Books are priced higher. Because their book printing is high the self-publisher should not over price books for the market.
You don't have to worry about inventory. Many of them give great positioning, which is what you want.
With them as with the traditionally published author you roll up your sleeves and get to work to make your book a success.
