Kath | 1965 comments Firstly, this book contains scenes of an adult/graphic nature, both sexually and abusive so please be aware of this if you are easily offended/upset by these things.

As detailed in the blurb, the main character of the book suffers from DID and has 5 additional co-conscious personalities each with their own quirks and specialities. The interaction between these personalities has, in my opinion, been handled extremely well by the author and comes across as totally believable. There are a few "laugh out loud" moments with some of the interactions between personalities which add to the reality of the situation.
The story is well thought out with twists and turns all leading towards a neat and believable conclusion, albeit somewhat horrific. There is one loose end left hanging which will, I believe, lead nicely to book two in the series but this does not take anything away from the completion of this as a stand alone novel. I found that despite the horrifying scenes depicted in the book, and the use of multiple personalities, flashbacks and side-stories, it was an easy book to read and follow.
We are taken back through parts of Jeck's childhood. For people who understand DID, the personalities are usually born out of necessity to assist the host at times of great trauma and this is true in Michael's case. Some of the descriptions of these and indeed other events in other characters' lives are quite graphic and very disturbing but, that said, they have been written very respectfully and are necessary as they form an integral part of the plot.
All the characters are well fleshed out, consistent and feel real. They are very easy to relate to and emote with. There is a lot of background in this book obviously to do with both the story as well as the basic introductions. As these characters will travel through the series, I believe that introducing them properly was quite important and indeed necessary in some parts and feel that this has been achieved in a very balanced way.
The whole book has a very visual element to it and I can see it being a successful TV series. That is if anyone can work out how to portray the 6 personalities within one body!
There is a whole bunch more I could say about this book, however this would involve giving too much of the plot away and ruin the fantastic suspense and emotional ride that the reader is drawn into throughout the book.

Anthony Cardenas (aecardenas) | 34 comments Hello. I'm the author of The Gestalt Man and just wanted to first introduce myself and say "Hi". I also wanted to make you all aware that I'm in the process of uploading a corrected version of the book. I was recently made aware of a few typographical errors and other minor corrections and so took the opportunity to make a revision, which should be available in another 24 hours.

Kath, you can probably re-download the revised copy seeing as you already bought it.

I hope you guys do give my book a try. I welcome any and all types of feedback and would also be happy to discuss my work in more detail and/or answer any questions that you may have about it.

Thank you so much for your support!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 61757 comments Brilliant of you to join us, Anthony!

Please do have a look around our group. We love authors here and also have a great deal of fun.

It would be great if you'd like to open your own author thread, as well.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 61757 comments Oh and thank you for the heads up on the update. I'll make do with the sample for tonight, then.

Yes, I followed the crumbs all the way to the candy house. :) I believe the revised copy should be available now for download. I'm right now in the process of getting a proof of a print version of The Gestalt Man that will be available from Amazon/Createspace soon, as I've had some rather vocal requests (demands!) for a printed version of the book. Not everybody has a Kindle, which is a shame because it's SO cool. I LOVE my Kindle and think it is awesome to be able to carry hundreds of my books with me wherever I go.

Talk to you later, Kath. And thanks for all the support!

The Gestalt Man by Anthony E. Cardenas
The Gestalt Man
A Psychological Thriller
By
Anthony E. Cardenas

SYNOPSIS:
Michael Jeck suffers from severe dissociative identity disorder as a result of a series of traumatic incidents in his childhood. He has five separate and individual personalities—Kara, a brainy, intellectual woman trained as a medical examiner; Nick, an aggressive hit first ask questions later guy; Alex, the suave, sophisticated, educated man; Telly, a brainy teenager who is an expert with computers and technology; and Sara, a mute eight year old girl who creates mature, beautiful works of art to express herself.

Thanks to years of experimental psychotherapy, Jeck has managed to gain control over his five other personalities, not by suppressing them, but by living with them. He then uses their specific skills and talents to form a kind of think tank, capable of effectively solving complex and difficult crimes. In this way, he and his five personalities function as a unified whole, rather than individual parts—a truly gestalt personality.

Michael Jeck is now a special agent with the FBI and has garnered a reputation as an eccentric genius that can solve any case. Recently, however, he has been unable to crack a strange series of murders that appear to be completely different but also thinly connected to each other. Concerned that his top agent may be psychologically unfit, the Assistant Director of the FBI decides to assign Jeck a partner for the very first time.

Enter Grayson O’Neal, an FBI agent from the behavioral sciences division, whose mysterious past and strange eagerness to work with Agent Jeck causes a newfound tension amongst the normal “group” dynamic.

Together, Jeck and Grayson work to solve the mystery of the serial killings, at the same time trying to come to terms with their respective pasts, and their uncertain futures.

Pauline Byrne | 26 comments I finished this today and thought it was really good. I'd definitely be keeping my eye out for book 2.

It was spoilt a little bit by the typos - of which there were a fair few. But I still really enjoyed it.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 61757 comments Oh thanks for that, Pauline.

Lots of typos really detract from my enjoyment of a book, so I think I'll wait for the update, if there is one.

Anthony Cardenas (aecardenas) | 34 comments Hi. Just to let you guys know...thanks to some feedback from readers like Pauline, I was able to correct the ebook version (as well as the new paperback version) and updated it now.

So the edition that is out there now is a good one.

For existing customers, I'm working with Amazon to see about either a.) notifying existing customers about the new corrected copy so that they can download the it to their Kindle, or b.) have them just put a "update your copy" link on the Manage Your Kindle section.

I want to apologize for this. I truly despise errors (actually i just hate being wrong and making mistakes, i wish I was Data from Star Trek) and was incredibly disappointed with myself for not catching them before.

I do hope anyone interested in the book will give it a chance without the fear of typos.

Anthony Cardenas (aecardenas) | 34 comments Also, I'll be doing a promotion on the book this wednesday, so keep an eye out.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 61757 comments Yay, Anthony! Thanks for letting us know about the update!

I'll request the corrected version straight away! :)

Pauline Byrne | 26 comments Ooooo in paperback. I might have to buy it for my OH. I know I've got it on my Kindle and I have thought a couple of times I'd lend my Kindle so my OH can read it, but I just can't lend anyone my Kindle. I'm glad I can get him the paperback, it's such a good book I'm sure he'd enjoy it.

I, too, refuse to "lend my Kindle" (whoever heard of such a thing?), so I ended buying a Kindle for my wife. and now I have effectively been replaced by the Outlander series and am not to disturb her anymore.

So yes, maybe the paperback edition would suit him (and you) better :) . I had some trouble with the site earlier, but it should be up and ready now.
