図書館屋 Sharon the Librarian (toshokanya) | 10 comments I just came back from a quick trip to Japan and filled my suitcase with books that I enjoy and think would also be good for people wanting to read for pleasure in Japanese. This time I concentrated on books for students who have done about 3 years of study.

Will you be posting them on the group's bookshelves?

図書館屋 Sharon the Librarian (toshokanya) | 10 comments Yes, but since I bought kid's books and light novels (about librarians - tee hee) I need to catalog all of them on goodreads. So, I added the first two tonight. More to come!

Do you have a scanner? You should add the cover images, too.

図書館屋 Sharon the Librarian (toshokanya) | 10 comments Am doing that. Although I can find the official website for each volume so I am copying off the publisher's website. Could you look at two of them. The Manzai 1 - the English record was already there. I added the Japanese one. If it is right, I'll add the rest of the series for that one. I am trying to buy things that have book, manga, and English translations so I need to understand the GoodReads edition cataloging.

So, is this the record you added?

It looks all right to me. Now you just need to combine this edition with the other editions of this book. Just click on "combine" (It's to the right of "Other Editions") and check all the titles in the title list that belong to this edition. Then click on combine editions.

I see this one:

But, I'm not sure about this one:

If these are all the same book, but different editions, then they should be combined.

As long as you are adding new editions, it's a good idea to correct the existing records to make them consistent. These two, for example:

I would remove the comma from the first title to make both titles have the same format. Just keep the style consistent across volumes.

I know there was some debate about this, but today, when I combined the English and Japanese volumes of this manga series, I added the author's name in kanji, in correct order as a second author. Someone who is a native Japanese speaker would search that way, so I think the author's name should be written correctly on the Japanese volume(s).

Well, I hope I didn't give you more of an answer than you really wanted! @~@
