Kimberly (kimbersingoodreadsitrust) | 24 comments I'm having a major problem people. I feel sort of empty inside. Today i have started two books and ditched both of them already. I'm restless, i don't think any other books are going to measure up to the perfection that is Barron's and Mac. It's like having Nando's for the first time... you realise all other chicken will forever pale in comparison. Don't get me wrong.... i still have the next cassie palmer to look forward to. but until then i'm going to need something to fill this void. Does anybody have a cure? Is there any book series that will drag me from my depression... dont say night huntress!! You would already be preaching to the choir. I <3 bones. Sigh... have i already read the best of the best?

Sarah ♥ dog crazy ♥ (mylheage) Hmmm, there aren't many heros as awesome as Barrons but many heroines better than Mac.

Do you know the Kate Daniels series? That one's very good.

message 3: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimbersingoodreadsitrust) | 24 comments I keep seeing the Kate Daniels series mentioned...' magic bites' is the first one isn't it? I think i will give that one a try then. The two I started earlier had a lot of good reviews, but i knew as soon as i started them that they wouldn't hold my interest. I think i'm just expecting barrons to pop and say 'ms lane, what the fuck do you think you are doing' at an unexpected moment while i'm reading. I know i need to move on... But i cant!!! *sobs*

message 4: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (kristo11) | 1 comments I can't move on either Kimberly!! I know a lot of people aren't the biggest fans of Mac. But I love her! And of course Barrons, they have such an intense relationship. I haven't found anything that held my interest either. Hunger Games was a pretty good series. It wasn't the same as Fever of course, but it was actually a good story. I just started the first Sookie series so hopefully that one is as good as everyone says! Let me know if you find any that "somewhat" comparable to fever!

Stick it out until at least the 2nd book! I loved book 1, but book 2 and 3 is where it really gets good, and after that, it's just pure awesomeness:)

There is a short story called "A Questionable Client" which takes place before Magic Bites. But it is not necessary to read it first.

message 7: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimbersingoodreadsitrust) | 24 comments Yeah keep reading kristin.. The sookie series is brilliant. Wait until you get to book 4. That's my fave Sookie book of all. Do you watch True Blood? The books are way better then the tv show. I sometimes think Alan Ball is out to ruin my life. There not like the Fever series at all really. I don't see a comparison anyway. But still they would be in my top 5 recommends.

True Love Forever (trueloveforever) | 329 comments Vampire Academy and Riley Jensen series are very, very good. The writing is well done and both of them keep your attention. Also, the Shifters series with Faith is great. After Fever it is hard to enjoy other books. Some seem so cheesy or immature after it. I am in the process of re-reading them. I hope they do graphic novels. I love them for refreshers on books I have already read.
Quick little nibbles of my favorite books.

message 9: by saga (new)

saga (iyagi) I believed they destroyed the illusion of that every book has something good in it, when I read, I just keep thinking 'Barrons could've done that so much better'. Have you tried Divergent? It's one of the most amazing books I've read.

message 10: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimbersingoodreadsitrust) | 24 comments I don't understand why there is so much hate for Mac... Am i the only person who really likes her??
I've not tried Divergent saga. I will look it up now. I read the first one in the shifters series the other day. Really enjoyed it, But i preffered Jace over Marc.

message 11: by saga (new)

saga (iyagi) I like her, too. She's a strong character and they often appear annoying.

message 12: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Jackson (paperbackdiva) Personally, I see Mac as a spoiled, shallow mall rat. She has to be knocked over the head before she will accept what she needs to do. Then she only looks at it short term. Barrons is a long-term guy; well he has to be at his age with his baggage. Mac thinks she's supposed to be treated like Scarlett O'Hara. Oh, and I loathe Scarlett O'Hara. Many people will disagree with that opinion too.

And I feel that Mac is a Scarlett O'Hara wannabe. That does not make her admirable in my opinion.

Sarah ♥ dog crazy ♥ (mylheage) Great post, Andrea! :-)

message 14: by saga (new)

saga (iyagi) I do think we are all spoiled, we just don't want to see it in ourselves. She wants to be treated in that way, I bet you want to be treated in a special way, too.

message 15: by Jennifer (last edited Feb 24, 2012 06:14AM) (new)

Jennifer (sadstrumpetjenny) I am kind of a broken record about this, but the only series that pulled me out of my Fever funk was Stacia Kane's Downside.
Unholy Ghosts (Downside Ghosts, #1) by Stacia Kane Unholy Magic (Downside Ghosts, #2) by Stacia Kane City of Ghosts (Downside Ghosts, #3) by Stacia Kane

message 16: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Jackson (paperbackdiva) Thanks for the recommendation Jennifer! I just went to Amazon and picked up Unholy Ghosts for my Kindle for only $.99! I can't wait to read it.

P.S. I love my Kindle! lol.

message 17: by toofondofbooks (new)

toofondofbooks | 52 comments I liked Mac, but I typically like heroines that others find annoying, lol. I just always try to enjoy every character in books I read and throw myself into the story. Especially when written in 1st person, its hard not to put myself in their shoes:)

Nice! That's a perfect and cheap way to see if you like it. There are three out now, with the fourth out in next month. She doesn't kill you with cliffhangers like KMM!

message 19: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimbersingoodreadsitrust) | 24 comments I dont know about the Scarlet o'Hara thing. She's more like Scarlet Johansson for me. I don't get the spoiled thing either... She never acted spoiled around Barrons, well not in a gimme gimme gimme way. She worked the bookstore herself and earned her own wage. I actually think she was quite selfless. Having a love of pretty pink things is not a bad quality. I love pink, but my sister wears nothing but black. And i dont think bad of her for it. I think a lot of people hate on mac because of the girly girly thing. I know some people prefer a real Kick Ass macho type like Anita Blake. I like both types of heroin. However I stopped reading the Anita Blake books when it felt wrong to be reading what can only be described as Hardcore porn in front of my children. Ah well as they say 'each to there own' ;)

message 20: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (sadstrumpetjenny) And, if anything, Mac was hyperaware of how spoiled and naive she was before, and how much everything had changed - and how she had to change. Good ole Scarlett never had that much self-awareness!

message 21: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimbersingoodreadsitrust) | 24 comments Here Here Jen!! I like it when heroins have to build up to being bad ass and make that change... It's not as much fun when they start off bad ass to begin with.

I Totally Agree! i like seeing some character development.

message 26: by Sara (last edited Mar 05, 2012 11:18AM) (new)

Sara (saragr) | 35 comments LOL that's true.

I have Unholy Ghosts on my kindle to read soon, hopefully. Also, would like to read the Game of Thrones books too.

Kimberly, I do that too with books sometimes. Only, in my case I think it is book ADD. I will start something but lose interest only to pick it up later and love it. ?

I haven't found many series that I love like Fever, other than Sookie Stackhouse and Night Huntress. However, I have found one recently that I just love love and its the Nice Girls series by Molly Harper. They have a little romance but it's mostly the humor that I love about them. Another new fav after Fever is the Outlander series.

I attempted to listen to Magic Bites but could not finish bc I found the narrator annoying. Meanwhile, I got book 2 and 3 in the mail from booksfree(netflix for books) and read book 2 and it was pretty good. Haven't gotten to 3 yet. But I have heard over and over too about how good they are. I am told that Magic Bites drags a little but that book 2 is better.

message 27: by Holly (new)

Holly (nyxxornaught) | 2 comments Over the thousands of stories I have read by hundreds of authors I can say that there are maybe 20 that I love and 5 that I long for. If you know me you'll understand what this means. This applies to the desert island question.... you know the one, what would you take with you if you had the choice.... If I had to choose between a never ending supply of coffee and all the tools necessary to brewing it or the Fever series... I would choose the latter. I just finished reading the entire series for the 3rd time. If you'd like recommendations. Mercedes Lackey, Raymond E. Feist, Tamora Pierce, Patricia Briggs, Ilona Andrews, Kay Hooper, Judith Merkle Riley, Laurel K. Hamilton, and I thought they were cheesy at first but Nalini Singh.

message 28: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimbersingoodreadsitrust) | 24 comments I am definatly going to get round to reading the outlander series. Its one of those books that i always think 'i must read this soon' but never get round to doing. Thanks for all the suggestions Holly. I've actually just finished reading the first two in the Guild series by Nalini Singh. I really enjoyed them but im in no hurry to rush out and get the third book for some reason.

message 29: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (sadstrumpetjenny) Kimberly wrote: "I really enjoyed them but im in no hurry to rush out and get the third book for some reason."

I know what you mean - I have the third one, and never started it. I liked them fine, but there wasn't that urgency to read. Same for pretty much all the highly recommended series out there. Fever, BDB, and Downside - those have been the only ones I devoured and got obsessive about.

message 30: by Denise Nanna (new)

Denise Nanna | 9 comments I hope you love the Outlander series as much as I and my husband have.

I just finished reading the third in Downside, and I must say it has help me out of my funk!! I haven't felt the need to go and reread excerpts from Fever... like i normally do when a book is not engaging enough!!!

message 32: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimbersingoodreadsitrust) | 24 comments Well I stayed up until 3 this morning finishing the first downside book. The first time I started reading it straight after the fever series I ended up putting it down after 3 chapters. However now I'm also out of my fever depression I decided to pick it up and try again. I am so glad I did!! I'm going to buy the 2nd and 3rd books today. Looks like I've caught Terrible fever.

message 33: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (sadstrumpetjenny) Yay! I am so glad to hear that I may have had a small part in your recovery. Terrible, mmmmm, he gets better and better.

message 34: by toofondofbooks (new)

toofondofbooks | 52 comments I just looked them up, and my library has all three of the Downside books! Yay:) Thanks for the rec!

I just finished reading The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins trilogy, and although they are NOTHING like Fever, they are the first series since Fever that I actually stayed up all night to finish and greatly ignored my family and house to read:)

message 35: by Mishka84 (new)

Mishka84 | 14 comments So glad I found this thread! Thought I was the only one wandering round feeling very lost and a little depressed! Finished Shadowfever this afternoon (hid upstairs to read the last 10 pages so no-one could mither!) what the hell do I do now?!

message 36: by Sara (new)

Sara (saragr) | 35 comments Oh yeah, I totally forgot about The Hunger Games books. Yes, I recommend those too.

I have Angel's Blood on my TBR shelf.

I'm thinking i should have named this thread 'the fever support group' I really did give myself a week to recover from the fever series. I read the whole series 10 days. I found it hard to pick up a book and not picture Ireland in my head. I was even picturing other lead men with Barron's face. This felt like cheating. So i took a break for about a week from reading.... Yes it was hard, but now im ready to love other characters. Have you read the cassie palmer series? If you haven't then do so now. Fanbloodytastic series.

message 38: by Jo (last edited Mar 12, 2012 02:51AM) (new)

Jo | 2 comments Try *LAURA WRIGHT* MARK OF THE VAMPIRE series!! 3 books so far...starts with Eternal Hunger, Eternal Kiss, then (e-book) Eternal Blood and 3rd book Eternal Captive! 4th book out later this year! Love her vampires!! By far the best I've read!
I too LOVED Fever...my head did not work right for a while after! Trying KMM Highlanders now....not the same :-( I miss Barrons! x

message 39: by Mishka84 (new)

Mishka84 | 14 comments @ Kimberly - Trying to read something completely different otherwise I'll do the same thing and no other male character will compare to Barrons *sob* just cant get into anything! What's the Cassie Palmer series? Shadowfever should come complete with a couple of antidepressants taped the back cover!

@ Jo - Thanks for the recommendations, have you started the Highlander series was wondering whether to try them?

I definitely agree that Hunger Games is a very good first step in recovery from Fever. :) I think I'll even be dragging DH to the movie!

you seriously have to read the cassie palmer novels by karen chance. I know what you mean about the barron's thing but 'pritkin' comes a very close second in my eyes. And the series isnt finished yet. The next book due to come out 2012/2013 promises to be fab! Im actually wel jel that you havent read them yet and get to fall in love all over again. There is a love triangle in there between Mercer and Pritkin. Im sooooo Team pritkin. But there are alot of Team mercer fans aswell. It's a great UF series and my absolute fave after fever. So trust me on this. Get them read!! :)

message 42: by Mishka84 (new)

Mishka84 | 14 comments @ Kimberly - Thank you sounds really good! Gonna go check them out now and put them on my to read list there's nothing like falling in love with a new series especially if you don't have to wait ages for the next book, I'm glad the fever series came out all together over here! Got quite a few here waiting to be read: Lover eternal, Evermore, the first of the LotU series! Sent a friend request so I can let you know when I've read the first cassie palmer!

message 43: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (sadstrumpetjenny) I will try too - haven't read them either!

message 44: by Mishka84 (new)

Mishka84 | 14 comments Sent one to you too Jennifer, would be nice to compare them with you both!

message 45: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (sadstrumpetjenny) Definitely!

message 46: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (sadstrumpetjenny) Did anyone listen to the Cassie Palmer series on audio? I don't usually go for that format, but they've got all of 'em at the library so it's tempting. Since I read so fast I get annoyed with audio sometimes, and I know narrators can kill a story. (Darkfever! So BAD!).

message 47: by toofondofbooks (new)

toofondofbooks | 52 comments I can't remember if it's already been mentioned, but Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1) by Jeaniene Frost is another awesome series, and Bones is really drool-worthy:)

message 48: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimbersingoodreadsitrust) | 24 comments Jennifer wrote: "Did anyone listen to the Cassie Palmer series on audio?

I hate listening to audio books... i like hearing my own voice in my head... Well i presume its my own voice. Not thought that much on it! I agree narrators can kill a story. I did mention the night huntress books at the very beginning of the thread. I would say my top 3 series in fave order would be..Fever 1st, cassie palmer 2nd, Night huntress 3rd. I couldn't get enough of the night huntress series for the first 3 books, then i felt as if it lost its edge for me after that. But thats my own personal opinion and i would still shout from the rooftops for people to read them because Bones is truly awesome. :)

message 49: by Jo (last edited Mar 13, 2012 03:21AM) (new)

Jo | 2 comments @ Michelle - Highlanders are ok - easy reads...none of the men come close to Barrons and I'm glad I only brought them 2nd hand!
Seriously try Laura Wrights vampires. Those men are HOT! X

message 50: by Mishka84 (new)

Mishka84 | 14 comments Thanks Jo I'm still not sure I want to read them yet, I've just finished Lover Eternal and I enjoyed it can't say the same about The Darkest Night the first in LotU series, I'm a third through and not enjoying it at all so will def check the ones you suggested.
