Finally had the time to pick up the book, sorry it took so long. I also grabbed "Cosmos" 'cause it had these blurbs on the back: "One of the profoundest of the late moderns" -- John Updike; and "One of the great novelists of our century" -- Milan Kundera. High praise!

Jeez, you mean I read the wrong book?

I grabbed both Cosmos and Pornografia. I'm about 50 pages into P. and so far agree with your review.

Adam: I misread your first post. I thought that you had written "So I grabbed 'Cosmos'." I guess I need to slow down and pay more attention!

Oof, finally finished this one...I have *no* idea why this is considered Great. It was a tough slog for me -- everything you said in your review is spot on Williwaw.

I think I *will* try and give Cosmos a shot, but I'm not holding out much hope.

I, too, am curious if Cosmos might be more interesting or more enjoyable. I think that Pornografia could have been transformed into a great short story by a skillful editor!

I don't have a copy of Cosmos, but I think my local library has one. Please let us have your impressions of Cosmos, Adam, if you happen to read it.

If I recommend a third dud, I'll probably be removed from the BBC for life!!

So I'll probably defer to others during the next round of book selection. This process is best left to wiser folk. Maybe I'll follow Gina's lead. She seems to know how to pick 'em!

I had never read Gombrowicz, but I had a friend who once, long ago, raved about another novel called Ferdydurk (sp?). Also, I was quite enchanted by the title "Cosmos & Pornografia." The complete foundation for my recommendation rested those two rickety beams!
