Alexandra Can anyone suggest good books with basketball featured in the story, something between 1st and 3rd grade reading level?

J-Lynn Van Pelt That's tough. I can only think of all of the Walter Dean Myers basketball books that are great for teens, like Slam, Hoops, The Outside Shot.

I'll have to really think about books for the younger students.

Gina (grrb) Hmm. 1-3rd is tough. Here are some easier ones:

Werewolf Club Meets the Hound of the Basketballs by Pinkwater
Allie's Basketball Dream by Barber
Lephrachauns Don't Play Basketball by Dadey
Basketball Buddies by Marzollo
Rimshots by Smith

Here are some more in the 8-12 year range:

Travel Team by Lupica
String Music by Telander
House of Sports by Russo
also try Matt Christopher

Hope that helps!

Alice Gold (alicewgold) I just read this book for the first time and was totally enamored by it, which is funny because I am not a total fan of professional athletes. "Salt in His Shoes" by Deloris Jordan with Roslyn M. Jordan. The story is about Michael Jordan as a child wanting to be good enough to play basketball with his brothers. It really teaches a great lesson of having a good attitude, having faith, working hard, and being determined.
