Jacques Antoine (jacquesantoine) | 9 comments Thanks for the review, Julie. It seems fair and honest. I think you're right about some of the emotional changes. I've been thinking a lot about just this as I work on the sequel. It's a constant struggle to figure out how to make the inner lives of the characters available to a reader.

Julie(Reading By The Beach) (httpwwwgoodreadscomjulie_odron) | 102 comments I can't even imagine how hard it must be. I give you many kudos for putting your work out on the market. I don't often come across action adventure for YA reader's so it's exciting to find something different! I'm sending you positive energy as you write!

Have you trained in martial arts or did you just do extensive research? The way you described the sen and different techniques was brilliant so I'm guessing the first, but I've been wanting to know since I first started the book :)

Jacques Antoine (jacquesantoine) | 9 comments Thanks, Julie. Yes, when I was younger, but I had to give martial arts up years ago when my knees started aching. I was mainly inspired this time around by my daughter's experiences in a few different dojos.

It's probably common to lots of girls who study karate, but she was really annoyed by the lack of control of the boys in the dojos, and the failure of various senseis to enforce the rules in sparring. They would routinely hit too hard. She didn't mind the pain (she's a tough chick) so much as the breaking of the rules. It offended her. So we put our heads together and tried to imagine the girl who would really turn the tables on the boys.

Jacques Antoine (jacquesantoine) | 9 comments Thanks, Stephanie, for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Possible spoiler alert: in the sequel, it may turn out that Emily's father didn't tell her (or know himself) the whole truth about who/what she really is. Sometime a mother knows her daughter better than the father does.

BTW, I like your blog--it has a nice, clean look. And lots of thoughtful reviews. But you should give people more ways to follow you.

Ooooooooo I love twists; sounds intriguing; my son asked to read Go No Sen, I'll cave in and let him once he finishes the novels he is currently reading :-)

Any suggestions on how to follow me are welcome. I have added my blog links to my groups on here and from my profile page here; I guess I could figure out a way to add it to twitter.

Jacques Antoine (jacquesantoine) | 9 comments I was just thinking that your blog only allows people to follow you through email alerts. I think Blogger allows for Google connections, and there are prolly some other gadgets for following in the Blogger design menu.I mainly follow other blogs through Google, not email.
