Patrick Artazu | 3 comments Can anybody recommend some comics or graphic novels in Spanish (however, not comics that have been translated from English so much)? And maybe more importantly, where to get them?

message 2: by Sérgio (new)

Sérgio | 459 comments Hi, I haven't read that many spanish comics(or from other spanish speaking countries for that matter), but I'll try to recommend some things.

There's Blacksad, I think it's just decent but most people love it.

There's also Max. From the few things I read of his ge's really good. I'm curious to read Bardín the Superrealistby him.

There are pretty good comics in Argentina, made by creative teams like Muñoz/Sampayo or Alberto Breccia/Hector Oesterheld. Their comics were really groundbreaking.

There's the Alack Sinner series by the first ones. The second ones made books like El Eternauta or Mort Cinder.

There are other good comic artists like Miguelanxo Prado and Jordi Bernet you might find to your liking.

About buying them, maybe you can try the spanish amazon (http://www.amazon.es/). The delivery costs might be high but you can probably find almost anything you want.

Andrés Santiago Hi there,

I'm Spanish myself. Are you looking for comics in Spanish or translations into English?

Sérgio´s suggestions are pretty comprehensive, but depends on the type of comic-graphic novels you like: science-fiction, realistic, historical...

I would add to the list the work of Paco Roca, in particular "Las calles de arena", "Arrugas" (just turned into a film) and his best work in my opinion "El invierno del dibujante".

I also recommend "El arte de volar" by Altarriba & Kim.

http://www.amazon.es is a good place to buy them and I believe that Amazon.com also has some titles.

Other places that might be useful are http://www.casadellibro.com and http://www.normasabadell.com

I hope this is of help to you.

All the best

Patrick Artazu | 3 comments Thanks for the suggestions, guys.

@Andres Yes, I meant comics in Spanish, not translated (in either direction). In terms of genre, I like to read widely, but "El invierno del dibujante" looks particularly good.

Andrés Santiago no problem, that particular comic can be found on its digital version on this site: http://www.koomic.com/

They don't have a large selection yet, but it is a good place to explore Spanish comics.

Blixen (blixen) Agencia de viajes Lemming: gorgeus!! According to me it is pure poetry. José Carlos Fernandes, like Calvino's Invisible cities, creates a never-never land.

Ricardo Baptista (semilhinha) Sadly, José Carlos Fernandes is a portuguese artist that published the book in Spain because of a conflict with an editorial house in Portugal... If you like Agencia then you can also find in spanish his famous La Peor Banda del Mundo.

Thank you for the tip! I've bought Agencia in Spain. Actually, I don't know where I can buy La peor banda. I like turn over the pages of a book before buying one!

Ricardo Baptista (semilhinha) I can't help you with a physical copy of the book, but this link might help you get an idea of what you're dealing with.

Trevor.tt Jorge Gonzalez - Fueye https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

Really unique artwork and layout, great story about Tango and sociopolitical change in early 20C Buenos Aires. Even has a little making-of section in the back

Prudence Tippins Hi. Posting to an old thread, but I'm living in Costa Rica and am looking for a gift for a 12-year-old boy whose father would like him to read more. I thought graphic novels would be a good idea, but I'm looking for something that would be appropriate for that age. I know how to find such a thing in English, but I'm a bit out of my comfort zone en español. Any recommendations? Thanks!

Kaitlyn | 2 comments Hi this post is a little old — does anyone have any suggestions of more recently published comics or graphic novels written in Spanish? Particularly if they are sci-fi or fantasy?
