For this challenge, challenge yourself to read old classics. There are four different stages for the Classic's challenge:

Stage One
Read 1-5 classic books

Stage Two
Read 6-10 classic books

Stage Three
Read 11-15 classic books

Stage Four
Read 16- 20 classic books

Rules
Books MUST be classic books.
You must post what stage you will "falling" under. You may change your stage if you like

Duration
Until December 31st

Enjoy xx

Nicolette (cocopuff09120) | 68 comments Gosh, I would love to make it to stage 4 but that is highly unlikely. Let's go with stage 2.

Nicolette (cocopuff09120) | 68 comments Oh, and just a question, how are we defining classic? I mean, transdiscursiveness is kind of a hard thing to decide.

Any book that you would find classified as a classic book. Normally classics have their own section in say Barnes and Nobles or other book stores. If you have any questions on a certain book, let me know! There really isnt a true definition of "classic", but if you have one in mind, ask :)

message 26: by Angie (last edited May 18, 2012 06:16PM) (new)

Angie (seren-lucy) I belong to a Classics group on Goodreads, so this challenge is doubly good!
I'm going to be brave and aim for Stage Four!
I hope it is OK to list the classics I have read from the start of 2012.

Read 7/20

King Matt the First by Janusz Korczak Breakfast At Tiffany's by Truman Capote Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel García Márquez Little House on the Prairie (Little House, #2) by Laura Ingalls Wilder Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson A Room with a View by E.M. Forster A Study in Scarlet by Arthur Conan Doyle

Interestingly, I had quite a debate with my other group as to whether Love in the Time of Cholera should be classified as a classic. I went with yes!

TO READ...

North and South
The Outsiders
A Room with a View
Uncle Tom's Cabin
Villette
The Secret Garden

To quote Rachel Skye in the June Classic Nomination, "And yes, Classics have SO many definitions and to be honest there isnt one set definition. I would consider "older" books as classics, possibly ones you read in highschool/ school or maybe one your children read in school. Something that may possibly be on he Classics shelf in a bookstore.

And of course if you have any doubts or questions, please feel free to ask ".

I asked this question as well and it's one that a friend of mine read in her school.

message 35: by Kel (new)

Kel | 66 comments I use Barnes and Noble , they have a classics section and if I'm not sure I check on there to see what they consider a classic.
