Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Doug, Annm, and I are tentatively planning to read and discuss The Omnivore's Dilemma in December 2007. All are welcome to join us. Thanks.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Just for your information, so that you give yourselves time to read the Omnivore's Dilemma: This is not a short book. Depending on what edition you read, it's about 450-464 pages long. I notice that there's also an unabridged audio edition available.

kristin Hi Lisa,
Thanks for the invite. I read the first chapter on a plane about 2 months ago. I liked it and have wanted to finish, but haven't been able to get back to it. If I can find the time, I'll try to get back to it in the coming weeks.

Bobby For me it will depend on how busy I am the next few weeks and when in December the discussion might take place.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Bobby, I think the only way to "discuss" it is to post on these message boards here at the group. So it's not like a real world book club. So as long as we've read/are reading the book, anyone can post and reply to posts throughout December and beyond.

Bobby Aah, thanks for clarifying it. I have to say I am more interested in real life discussions than online so don't count on me. I'll still try to pick it up but have a feeling that with all the holiday stuff, I prob will not get to it. Thanks for letting me know though.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) I haven't started The Omnivore's Dilemma yet, but here's a link to an article in today's San Francisco paper that's of interest to this discussion:

Here I am, the prodigal moderator. I just got my copy from the local library. Couldn't see spending $ to be told it's okay to eat animals. Couldn't he say, it's okay NOT to eat them? That's what people need to hear who grew up with the food-groups-pyramid nonsense.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Annm, Well, he is an omnivore and has to find a way to feel ok with that. But, I felt the same way about getting it from the library! Just returned my copy.

Annm, Lisa,

I agree with Lisa that he was trying to justify his eating animals. I also agree with Annm on the "Food-groups-pyramid nonsense". It has done so much harm to American's eating habits.

:)Doug
