"I want to read some Charles Dickens. I blew it off in high school and think I cheated myself. What is your favorite Dickens novel and why?"

I rate A Tale of Two Cities at the top of my list, followed by The Old Curiosity Shop. The former being my first introduction to Dickens, and the latter reminding me in some respects of Les Miserables. However, I love many of Dickens' novels, including Great Expectations! I enjoy the way he attacks the social inequities of his time, so relevant in our own times. Dickens is brilliant at portraying character flaws and juxtaposing those flaws against goodness.

A Tale of Two Cities holds a special place in my heart, but Great Expectations is a wonderful story as well. In my honest opinion, you cannot go wrong with Dickens!

Go for both of the above. They're the two with the most controlled and direct story lines.
And they're brilliant.
And beautifully written.
And, certainly in Great Expectation's case, they're complicated.
